Where did you hear about us?: A HP RP ad community on GreatestJournal.

Why did you apply to Tempus Fugit, and what do you feel you can bring to the game?: I applied to Tempus Fugit because I felt that the Hannah I enjoy playing would fit in very well here. Also, I’ve been seeing a lot of games based on the reversal of blood status—from putting purebloods in power to muggleborns—but I thought this idea was intricate, complex, and very thoughtful. I feel that I could bring a thoughtful approach to writing Hannah. I also feel that Hannah could provide, not only a major point for interaction, but also be a plot point. A woman in her position can easily overhear all kinds of conversations and can then redistribute them as she so desires.

Previous RP experience: Many, many, many years of playing mostly Hannah, but also several OCs and those in the Potter-verse. Many, and almost all, of these have gone under since I left but they still count as experience, right?

Character Information

Name of character you are applying for: Hannah Grace Abbott

Age of character you are applying for(physical age, if one of the resurrected): 21

Birthday: 14 July, 1980

PB: Leslie Bibb

Wand: 14 ¼ inches, Tulip tree wood, Unicorn hair

House at Hogwarts: Hufflepuff

Family
Parents: Jeremy and Nora (nee Dobbins) Abbott
Siblings: None
Family interactions (how does your character get along with his/her family members?): Hannah got alone very well with her parents when they were both alive. Though Nora was a witch, she grew up as a Muggle and preferred to live her life that way. Jeremy, coming from a very old wizarding family, never understood his wife’s weird ways. Hannah was the link that made the family whole. After Nora died, Hannah and her father drifted apart because her father wanted to revert back to the days of his childhood, doing everything by magic. Hannah wanted to keep her mother alive through the traditions she created. This is still a point of contention between Hannah and her father.

Occupation: Barkeep and general help at the Leaky Cauldron
Residence: Hannah lives with Tom in the apartment attached to the Leaky Cauldron.
Financial status: Upper lower class—she’s comfortable but would never be able to move out of the apartments on her salary.

Political views: Conservative Integrationist—she believes that witches and wizards have powers that need to be shared, particularly when it comes to medicine and health. She’s just concerned that if the process happens too fast, Muggles will think magic is a cure-all and will be upset when they can’t bring back their loved ones.

Blood Status: Half blood

Sexuality (Please note, if you are playing a pureblood character who is also gay/bisexual, there are guidelines): Heterosexual

Physical description

Height: 5'6"
Weight: 135 lbs
Distinguishing marks: She has a few scars on her arm from fighting in the last battle as well as several on her legs from playing when she was younger.

Give us a description of your character's appearance: Hannah has always been blonde, but the shocking, golden blonde of her youth has tempered to a dirty, honey blonde. She cuts it just past her shoulder. She only rarely puts it into her distinguishing pigtails and, even then, it’s usually braided pigtails. She’s more apt to put it in a ponytail or just let it hang loose. Her face is long and narrow (a pattern that repeats throughout her body) with high cheekbones and thin lips. Her brown eyes are deeply set into her face and her eyebrows have very little natural arch. She is tall for a girl and also carries her weight very well. She has the figure of a thin boy with very small breasts and narrow hips. The physical feature she is most proud of is her collarbone and shoulders. Though narrow, her shoulders and proud and prominent.

Give us a description of your character's personality (for example, are they a confident person? Do they speak their mind? What are their flaws and good points? We want to know that you have a good understanding of your character, so feel free to use examples and make it as in depth as possible): Hannah is the ultimate mother hen. Even at Hogwarts, she sat and watched her friends like a mother anxiously watching her children on the playground from a park bench. It is her want of a home that makes her excel at the Leaky Cauldron. Though not the stereotypical bartender listening to other people’s problems and giving sage advice, Hannah acts like a mother serving sick children their chicken broth: doting, constantly anxious, and always around to offer sympathies without betraying her own feelings. Outspokenness is not one of Hannah’s strong points. Her constantly motherly anxiety makes her a very wound up individual. She is always the first to crack under pressure, whether from exams, work, or personal. Luckily, she has learned to handle them so she doesn’t need to take Calming Droughts all the time. Her meltdowns now happen behind the scenes, in the apartments she shares with Tom. Hannah’s philosophy on life makes her believe that every human is, fundamentally, a good person and that they can change. She gives everyone the benefit of the doubt, with very rare exceptions. She is trusting to the point of being naïve. Her constant need to help people can make her very clingy. She sends owls almost daily to people she meets in the bar, just to make sure they’re doing all right. At first, these can be very endearing and sweet, but after the fifth or sixth time, they seem a little obsessive.

History
Please give us a brief history of what happened to your character past canon to bring them to this point. if playing an OC, please give a much longer history to show how your character fits into this world.
Hannah had been able to remain at Hogwarts for most of her seventh year due to her last names’ prestige in pureblood communities. Though she was always considered a second-class citizen since her family refused to become Death Eaters (leading to the murder of her mother), Hannah was left alone for the most part. But, like many of her fellow Hufflepuffs, she soon joined Neville in the Room of Requirement. She couldn’t stand being taught by the same people that killed her mother.

Hannah survived the battle, with major help from several others, most notably Lee Jordon and Seamus Finnegan. While helping the Weasley twins patrol the secret passageways, Hannah was struck with a curse that caused major scarring on both of her arms. It was Lee Jordon’s quick thinking that stopped the curse before any more damage could be done. When the battle was nearing the end, Seamus Finnegan pushed Hannah into the Great Hall as Lord Voldemort shoot off killing curses in every direction. She attributes her survival to both of these men.

Her job in the Leaky Cauldron was mostly secured by chance. After the battle, Hannah and her fellow Hufflepuffs went to the Leaky Cauldron as a celebratory drink. Of course, they weren’t the only ones with this idea and the place was packed. Tom, now getting to be older, was very bogged down with all the orders, cleaning, and empty glasses. As she usually does in these situations, Hannah took up the charge and began clearing glasses and trying to help Tom as much as she could. She ended up staying until closing time. As she helped wipe down the tables and mop the floor, Tom asked her if she would come and work with him, as help around the bar. Hannah initially declined, since her family home was in the country and she didn’t want to disturb her father when he was sleeping. So Tom offered to let her stay in the spare room he had in his attached apartments. So, Hannah agreed and has been working and living in Tom’s spare room ever since. She is quite happily making the Leaky Cauldron into a comfortable and respectable bar and inn.

Resurrected Characters (please ignore if not applicable to your character)

If you are applying for someone who is still alive at the end of the series, and would like them to be considered for death and resurrection, please explain why:

If your character is one of the resurrected, what is their last memory and why have they returned at their particular age?:

Each person who returns from the dead using the magic of the resurrection stone must have a reason to come back. Not only would the character want to return, they must be needed by someone for something. Why have they been brought back? Who wanted them to return? Why?

Plotting

What short and long term goals do you have for your character?: In the short term, I’d like to see Hannah get out of the Leaky Cauldron some more, at least during the day. I’d also like to see her be more outspoken, especially in this political climate. In the long term, I’d like to see her make actual friends (instead of people she comforts). I’d also like to see her get burned because of her trusting nature, but maybe I’m just a little sadistic.

How does your character feel about the post-war world? (The Wizarding Community becoming more open to muggles, captured Death Eaters receiving the kiss, or being stripped of their wealth and property for lesser offences): Hannah would like to see an open exchange of ideas between the Wizarding and Muggle world. She believes they can learn a lot from each other and thinks this new knowledge will greatly benefit each society. She just wants to make sure the process is structured so everyone knows what they’re getting into and there are no unrealistic expectations. She thinks of the coming together of the two worlds almost like a courtship, and it needs to be taken slowly. Because she thinks everyone is really good, she believes that giving Death Eaters the Kiss is far too excessive. With the proper training, they could learn to appreciate living with Muggles. Perhaps some sort of jail can be set up to force Death Eaters live as Muggles for an extended period of time to appreciate it. While she does believe that lesser offences should be fined, she feels that the fines that are being paid are far too extensive and extravagant. Will she be able to resist temptation and turn down the offered money on principle? Stay tuned to find out!

Now that we are familiar with your characterization, please provide us with role playing sample so that we can get an idea of your writing style.

Be sure to write in the third person, and provide us with a new sample relevant to the game.

Writing Sample

It was mere minutes until the dinner menu went into effect and Hannah stood behind the bar, watching the clock. Absently, she picked up a rag and began wiping down the bar, pausing every few minutes to look up at the clock. She always expected a rush right when dinner began. Workers were just getting off work and many came to the Leaky Cauldron for dinner, if they didn’t have families waiting.

Hannah liked to think that she provided the single workers of Diagon Alley and, occasionally, the Ministry with a substitute family. A good, home-cooked meal and maybe a glass of good ale to wash it down with. A smile crept on her face as she thought of that and she gave the bar an extra hard scrub in appreciation.

Tom came limping out of the back and looked around. “Almost time?” he asked. Hannah nodded and he moved next to her behind the bar. “Cook’s ready,” he added. The cook was Hannah’s idea, a recent addition that made the Leaky Cauldron run smoother and faster, almost like a real pub.

“Good, because here they come,” she said, turning towards the door. Tom followed her gaze as the back door, leading to Diagon Alley, opened and the first wave of workers fresh off work came through.
