Where did you hear about us?:

Why did you apply to Tempus Fugit, and what do you feel you can bring to the game?: It looked interesting and I liked the premise. I’d been looking for a chance to play Millicent again, and figured it be a good place to apply. I’ll be active, and am willing to help out where needed.

Character Information

Name of character you are applying for: Millicent Elaine Bulstrode

Age of character you are applying for(physical age, if one of the resurrected):

Birthday: May 20th

PB: Mia Tyler

Wand: 10” Oak with a thestral hair core

House at Hogwarts: Slytherin

Family

Parents: Elise and Anthony Bulstrode
Siblings: Nathaniel and Catherine
Family interactions (how does your character get along with his/her family members?):
Elise Bulstrode: Millicent gets along well with her mother and believes that her main goal is taking care of her. Surprisingly enough, Millicent thinks the world of her mother even though she is the reason Millie spent her time at Hogwarts in fear of being outed as an halfblood. She sort of sees her mother in a “your not like them” kind of way whenever she made an offhand comment about “mudbloods”. Even though intellectually she knows that her mother is no different than the others, she just married well and put her family’s safety ahead of her own ideals. For that reason alone, Millicent respects her mother where she might despise others.

Anthony Bulstrode, deceased: Millicent adored her father in the way that the youngest daughter often does. She spent the majority of her childhood striving to live up to his ideals and learning at his knee. The summer that he died in the Dark Lord’s service was one of the hardest she’d ever had. Especially since she had to return for her last year of schooling that fall.

Nathaniel Bulstrode: Upon his father’s death. Nate took up his father’s position as head of the household, giving his siblings guidance. It was this guidance that Millie feels got her through the tough times. Nate was also the reason why Millicent never took the Mark. He didn’t want his little sister having to deal with the aftermath in the event that things didn’t’ go as planned. Nate’s death at the end of the war was an extremely hard time for Millicent.

Catherine Bulstrode: Millie’s last remaining sister has been a source of stability for Millicent. Their relationship has improved by leaps and bounds from their childhood days. At one point, Millicent was not overly fond of Catherine to say the least. She felt that Cath had gotten what she called better genetics than she had. After the events of the war, they have since then settled their differences.

Occupation: business owner
Residence: Bulstrode Hall in Cardiff Wales is the main home with a town home in Wizarding London.
Financial status: lower upper class, more upper middle class to be truthful.

Political views: Conservative Separatist. Millicent is not thrilled about the Wizarding world’s openness to muggles. Even with a muggleborn mother, she thinks that letting muggles into their world will not end well. She thinks that while some muggles might be accepting, the majority will not be as understanding. Millicent fears what could happen to her world muggles decide to go on witch-hunts as they did in colonial America.

Blood Status: Half

Sexuality (Please note, if you are playing a pureblood character who is also gay/bisexual, there are guidelines): Heterosexual

Physical description

Height: 5’10”
Weight: 160
Distinguishing marks:

Give us a description of your character's appearance:

Millicent is certainly not what you would call dainty. At 5'10, she is as tall as some of the younger boys in her house. She's not so much overweight as she is stocky with a large frame. A major change in her diet and activities during the summer of her fifth and sixth year helped her drop the extra weight and added tone to her body, much to the delight of her mother. While she will most likely never be considered a great beauty, she has finally grown into her facial features. The most noted of her features is her square jaw, which had caused her to be previously described as a hag. Her hair is black and shoulder length, which she usually leaves down until it starts to annoy her.

Give us a description of your character's personality (for example, are they a confident person? Do they speak their mind? What are their flaws and good points? We want to know that you have a good understanding of your character, so feel free to use examples and make it as in depth as possible):

Millicent is stubborn. There’s no other way to put it. Except for very rare situations, once her mind is made up it is incredibly hard to change her mind later. As she was growing up her parents learned early on that one of the best ways to get her to do something was to tell her that she wasn’t capable of doing it. This of course meant that she would buckle down and get it done; all to prove that she could do it. Millicent also has a strong sense of honor, which many would find odd for one of Voldemort’s supporters. Although her definition of honor has more to do with respect, dignity, reputation, and great privilege rather than personal integrity.

She’s a person who doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty or doing the odd jobs to get things done. Much more of a doer than a thinker, she prefers to lead by example rather than simply just telling people what to do and then managing them. Millicent finds that she respects people more if they can actually back up what they’re talking about. If they can actually do the thing they’re expecting her to do.

Although she can still (and will) argue very convincingly that the Falcons are the best Quidditch team there is, she also can talk about other things. Clothes, makeup and the like. Part of that whole “being a lady” thing. However Millicent is just more polished, not a completely changed woman. But don’t let her new appearance and habits fool you. Underneath she’s still just as tough and able to take care of herself in a fight.

History

The last of the Bulstrode children, Millicent was born on May 2oth to Elise and Anthony.
Her father comes from a decently long line of pureblood wizards, although the Bulstrodes are not as old a family as say the Malfoys. Elise Bulstrode however is muggle-born. A fact the family has managed to keep hidden.
Elise Turner and Anthony Bulstrode first met while at Hogwarts. At first Elise was wary of Anthony knowing him to be a blood purist and was afraid that he would see through her carefully crafted background. She had learned from an aunt witch that admitting that she was a muggle-born might not be the most prudent thing. This advice would especially have to be followed if she was sorted into Slytherin or one of the more traditional houses. Lo and behold, she was sorted into Slytherin, and she began to erase any signs of being muggle-born. Surprisingly they got a long well and built a friendship that would eventually lead to an arranged engagement, which lead to a marriage of two friends rather than two people in love. However they did get along well and had three children. As with most pureblood families of the time the young couple fell in with a young man who called himself “Lord Voldemort”. They agreed with his ideals of having a pure wizarding society and chose to follow him, Anthony becoming a Death Eater, Elise simply supporting from home. They continued in this fashion, serving as needed while running the business and raising their family. When the Dark Lord was defeated, they went on with their lives still quietly instilling their beliefs into their children. Upon his return, Anthony returned to his side along with other Death Eaters, glad to be of service once again.

The Bulstrodes are what you would probably call “new money”. Their money is recently self made and was not simply inherited from a relative. The family has two businesses. The older of the two is Bulstrode apothecaries which supplies several major apothecaries with needed stock. This branch of the family business is handled by Nathaniel. The newer business is in consulting. They recruit, train, and place employees for upscale businesses. Catherine manages this branch and has done quite well, turning a profit in the first two years.

Growing up, Millicent was raised as any other pureblooded child would have been; only learning that she was in fact a half blood right before she was to attend Hogwarts. Millicent also learned not only why she had to keep this fact secret, but also that as such the family had to work towards atoning for not being pure. This needless to say was quite a lot of information for an 11 year old to take in. She turned to her much adored older siblings for guidance and has done so ever since. Millicent looked up to her older siblings, following them around as much as she could while they were at home and owling them when they were at Hogwarts. She was excited to receive her acceptance to Hogwarts letter when she was eleven. The week before the term was to start; her parents took her shopping for her school supplies in Diagon Alley. Even though Millicent had been raised in the wizarding world and had been to Diagon Alley before, this time was different. This time she would be getting her own wand and supplies to take with her to Hogwarts. During her first year she worked hard at her classes and at getting to know the right sort of people. Of course being Sorted into Slytherin helped greatly in getting to know the sort of people her parents wanted her to associate with. Along the way she managed to get into trouble here and there, most notably her duel with Hermione Granger during her second year. During her fifth year, she was a member of Umbridge’s Inquisitorial Squad. During the summer between her fifth and sixth year she began to change her eating and lifestyle, losing weight and gaining a more toned body. In her sixth year, she also began to think before she spoke, and decided that perhaps the best way to get ahead was to project the image of a proper pureblood lady much to her mother’s delight. Sixth year ended, and Millicent returned home for the summer excited to once again take lessons from her father and to prepare for her N.E.W.T.S with her mother. Her Seventh year did not quite go as planned. The beginning of the summer started innocently enough. She did some studying, some shopping, and visiting family and her grandparents. In June however, her world came screeching to a halt. Her father and two others were sent on a mission for the Dark Lord. A mission which unfortunately for them went wrong and they failed. The Dark Lord does not take failure well and they were punished. During the course of punishment Anthony was killed for his failure. The family was hurt and Millicent took it the hardest. She was the youngest, her father’s princess. Prior to her father’s death Millicent had been considering following in her father’s and brother’s footsteps, afterwards she was not so sure that she could follow a lord who killed her father who had served so loyally. She spent the beginning of the year trying to figure out just what to do since she didn’t believe that she’d be a good socialite and trophy wife although she could and does play the part better than she ever dreamed she could.

Millicent had decided that her seventh year would be her year. She lived it for herself and no one else all the while making her own decisions. Of course she listened to advice but in the end the choices she made were hers, and she chose to follow the beliefs she had been taught all along. After all, when it comes down to it family is all you have isn’t it? She began to cultivate the sort of friends her mother wished she had all along, reaching out to the other Slytherin girls becoming “one of the girls” and not just an enforcer. Millicent began to downplay her more tomboy-ish attitudes and instead began to be more comfortable in the socialite role she has been forced into.

After graduation, Millicent remained in the family manor and worked in the family business securing new contracts. Outwardly she managed to keep an appearance of being neutral while quietly arranging her affairs so that her family would be safe. During the final battle her brother was sent to Azkaban along with several other captured Death Eaters leaving Millicent and her sister to care for their mother and run the family business. Millicent looked up to her older brother and was devastated when he was given the Dementor’s Kiss. It was, without a doubt in her mind one of the worse moments of her life. The Bulstrodes just barely managed to pay the large fine the Ministry has demanded of them. Through all of this, the Bulstrodes have managed to stay (as a whole) out of Azkaban and keep their businesses even though some will undoubtedly think that they’ve paid enough.

Resurrected Characters (please ignore if not applicable to your character)

If you are applying for someone who is still alive at the end of the series, and would like them to be considered for death and resurrection, please explain why:

If your character is one of the resurrected, what is their last memory and why have they returned at their particular age?:

Plotting

What short and long term goals do you have for your character?:
Short term, I’d like her to begin to evaluate her change in opinion of muggleborn and her attempt to be accepted by society again. It’s not that she;s going to suddenly be championing their rights, but she’s not out to curse them either.

Long term:
Given Millicent’s family history with Death Eaters and other pureblooded supporters, she’s having a hard time accepting the muggles into her world. She does however grudgingly accept (somewhat) the muggleborn if on a case by case basis. I think it would be interesting to rp out her coming to grips with her own blood status and the introduction of muggles.

How does your character feel about the post-war world? (The Wizarding Community becoming more open to muggles, captured Death Eaters receiving the kiss, or being stripped of their wealth and property for lesser offences): Millicent is not thrilled about the Wizarding world’s openness to muggles. Even with a muggleborn mother, she thinks that letting muggles into their world will not end well. She thinks that while some muggles might be accepting, the majority will not be as understanding. Millicent fears what could happen to her world muggles decide to go on witch-hunts as they did in colonial America.

Now that we are familiar with your characterization, please provide us with role playing sample so that we can get an idea of your writing style.

Be sure to write in the third person, and provide us with a new sample relevant to the game.

Closing the door behind her, Millicent strode into the foyer clearing it of the house elves with a glare. Sitting her purse on the side table, she sat down in the nearest chair and tried to collect her thoughts. After all, the last thing she needed was to upset her mother who was just now beginning to feel better. As if her family hadn’t had their name dragged through the mud, that “journalist” Rita Skeeter had mentioned them in her latest column. Taking a deep breath, she poured herself a glass of firewhiskey. Swirling the amber liquid around the glass, she took a sip as she tried to find order in her troubled thoughts. Surprisingly enough, the office hadn’t seen a slow down of business. She figured that regardless of everything, businesses still need staffing and apothecaries still need stock., Millicent thought with a dry chuckle. Her father had always said that brooding over things never changed anything. That instead you should plan to change things. It was days like this that she thought of him the most, wondering if he would be proud of what she was doing. The fees that the family had paid had almost drained the vault at Gringott’s dry. Thankfully, there had been enough, even if they had to live a more frugal lifestyle for a time. Tilting her head back, she tipped back the glass and let the burning liquid slide down her throat. Sitting the glass down carefully for one of the house elves to clean up, she stood and walked down the hallway to her office, her heels clicking on the wooden floors.
