Name: Anne

Age(must be 18+): 21
IM screen names: lespommesau
Email: lespommesau@gmail.com

Where did you hear about us?: I currently play another character at TF, but initially from Kimberly.

Why did you apply to Tempus Fugit, and what do you feel you can bring to the game?: I wanted to get even more involved in the game, because I really like the players and the game. Plus the Slytherin boys need a friend. I feel I can bring a positive and very enthusiastic attitude. I’m a very active roleplayer that pays attention to character details, relationships, and plot. I’d love to further my activity at TF.

Previous RP experience: Years, and currently I play Ginny at Tempus Fugit.

Character Information

Name of character you are applying for: Daphne Hypatia Greengrass

Age of character you are applying for(physical age, if one of the resurrected): 21

Birthday: 28 August 1980

PB: First choice, Kristen Stewart; Can also use Autumn Reeser or Elisabeth Harnois, if preferred.

Wand: Willow, dragonheart string, 10 ¾”, whippy

House at Hogwarts: Slytherin

Family
Parents: Alaric Greengrass & Regina Yaxley Greengrass
Siblings: younger sister; Astoria Greengrass
Family interactions (how does your character get along with his/her family members?):
The Greengrass family is an old one. Although not as prestigious as some of the other pureblood families, they tend to hold their own and be proud of their heritage. The four modern-day Greengrasses tend to be a close family. Family dinners, especially on Sunday, are quite common, and prepared by their house-elf, Mory.

Daphne is the oldest of the two Greengrass daughters, and in many ways this has shaped a great deal of her persona. Daphne has always had a special sister connection with her younger sibling. At times, especially during the younger years, Daphne was quite bossy. As Astoria grew and Daphne became more concerned with her own affairs, this relinquished a bit. Daphne is always wary of her sister’s well-being, but not protectively so. She has her own back to watch.

As for her relationship with her parents, Daphne holds high respect for them. However she feels she more resembles her quieter, more serious father than her more flamboyant mother.

Occupation: Financial advisor for Obscurus Books; occasional free-lance work.
Residence: Greengrass Hall, Cheshire, England, UK.
Financial status: She has a rather lucrative career. Her family is upper middle-class. The Greengrass family had their financial summit in the 1700s, being quite wealthy. This is when their family grounds were acquired, but the family fortunes dwindled to the upper-middle class state in which they currently are.

Political views: Conservative Separatist, heavy leaning towards Liberal Isolationist She is very mistrustful of those unlike her—meaning Mudbloods Muggles and Muggleborns, half-breeds, veelas, and the like, believing them to be threatening or at least tainting to the culture and security of the wizarding world. She also feels personally threatened, having seen so much backlash at purebloods in the past years. She doesn’t liked this demeaning behavior, or the lessening of her or her family’s standing in wizarding society. If it is to be reasoned that Muggles can’t be helped being born Muggles, can Purebloods not help being born Purebloods. And were Purebloods not the basis of wizarding society? Another words, they were there first. She supposes Mudbloods Muggleborns should be allowed to use their talents and learn magic,as long as they don’t blur the effing lines.

So needless to say she doesn’t like the current administration and its plan to incorporate Muggles into their society. She is also anti-The Kiss, something she feels strongly about.

Blood Status: Pureblood

Sexuality (Please note, if you are playing a pureblood character who is also gay/bisexual, there are guidelines): Heterosexual. For Daphne there was never really a choice. She’s always felt slated for a pureblood marriage, not that she’s actively looking… but she’s resigned to the fact that at 25 her mother will begin pestering her.

Physical description

Height: 5’5”
Weight: 125
Distinguishing marks: She would say she’s rather nondescript, but her most distinguishing mark is probably the perpetual look of annoyance across her face. Sometimes she does this without even being annoyed, but that’s not exactly a common occurrence.

Give us a description of your character's appearance: Daphne is your typical English girl in looks, at least she likes to think so. She’s of average height and build and a slightly paler complexion than she’d like. She has an oval face with a rather delicate nose, dusky green eyes, and blonde hair. Her smile is a bit on the toothy side, which may be one reason it isn’t seen that often. She feels that her shoulders are bony as well as her hips, and her arms might just be a tad long. Perhaps she is being overly critical though. She can be pretty, especially if she tries. Which she does often, mostly because she has always felt Astoria was the prettier sister and she doesn’t want to be completely outshined. Plus her career demands that she dress smartly.

Her style is quite feminine, being raised from a young girl to be a proper pureblood lady. She prefers traditional wizarding wear, robes and things, more floaty fabrics in summer and heavier satins and velvets in the colder seasons. She keeps up with fashion, but is not a slave to it. She tends to pull off pastels better than anything else, but her favorite color is a light gray.

Give us a description of your character's personality (for example, are they a confident person? Do they speak their mind? What are their flaws and good points? We want to know that you have a good understanding of your character, so feel free to use examples and make it as in depth as possible):

Daphne presents herself as being very responsible and polite. She isn’t the flashiest former Slytherin, but she likes it that way. She doesn’t exactly go by unnoticed, but she does understand the perks that can come with not being the center of attention. She prefers being in the quiet so that she can analyze any given situation, or at least formulate her opinion on it. Also the quieter ones are hardly ever kept an eye on—which has its obvious benefits.

She isn’t the most open with her opinions, but there is a select group in which she will freely speak her often opinionated mind. Her opinions are a mix of her upbringing and her own self-inflicted education on certain topics. Daphne is very interested in Arithmancy, and is quite good at it. She puts more faith into it than she’d like. She enjoys the numbers, they seem logical and tangible. She believes decisions should be analyzed from a logical and intellectual viewpoint, and options heavily weighted before actually making a decision. Despite this, she is quite decisive.

Daphne isn’t impressed by things on the surface, such as wealth and beauty. She is very impressed by intelligence and resourcefulness. The more cunning the person, the more intrigued she becomes. She finds people in positions of power, or that have a powerful nature very enticing. As long as they don’t try to control her that is.

She is slow to anger, but quick to annoy. She is easily annoyed by several, several things. These include: unintelligence, time wasters, the overly self righteous (a lot of Gryffindors fall under this category), people that actually like Fizzing Whizzbees, noisy children, people that think they know her and absolutely do not, people that only talk about Quidditch, overly aggressively flirty men, Celestina Warbeck’s “music”, and quite a few other things, actually.

She is more likely to treat these annoyances with annoyed expressions and penetrating glares than outright rage. She has a tendency to swear in her head, one that she hardly ever lets slip from her lips. She’s a lady after all. She sees banter and debate as a mental exercise, so she openly welcomes and enjoys it.

The happier side of Daphne, is confident, quick-witted, and very smirky, and sometimes even close-mouthed smiley. She enjoys success, like most people. She relishes genuine compliments. And yes, after several years of watching wizards try to flatter their way into a witch’s knickers, she can tell the difference between flattery and compliments—unless you’re that good. Daphne also finds pleasure from quiet times at home and a general feeling of acceptance. Something she doesn’t quite get a lot of in this political atmosphere.

History
Daphne Hypatia Greengrass was born on the 28th of August, 1980, the first child of Alaric & Regina Greengrass. Although they had hoped for a male child, the Greengrasses were happy enough to bring a daughter into the world. A boy could be brought along later, and daughters were good for making connections. More than that, the Greengrasses did love their daughter, hoping to train her to be the best she could and prepare her for the world outside of Greengrass Hall.

When Daphne was two the second Greengrass child, another daughter, named Astoria, was born into the family. Daphne was quite taken with this doll-like person. She thought it was a gift for her. She soon found out that this little Astoria creature, pretty as she was, wasn’t a play thing. In fact she did many annoying things, like cry and drool. As she grew, Daphne was often lectured about how Astoria was one of her greatest responsibilities, and that she should protect her sister, and always make sure she was on the right path. Daphne took these lectures quite seriously.

At the age of three Daphne’s schooling began. She studied the basics: reading, writing, arithmetic, but also family history, sometimes other families histories, basic history of the wizarding world, French, and piano. This happened until the summer before she left for Hogwarts.

In her free time, Daphne liked to play outside in the garden that her mother expertly designed. Daphne took a keen interest in plants at that age (which waned due to Herbology later on), her favorite being ferns. A lot of Daphne’s childhood was spent with her younger sister, Astoria. The two became quite close as they grew older.

Often, in an attempt at early socialization, the children of her parent’s friends, of other good pureblood families of course, would come over. Her mother never allowed the girls to play Quidditch, thinking it too dangerous and masculine. Thus Daphne developed a blasé attitude toward the sport, and an intense fear of heights. Rainy days were spent inside reading, having tea, playing dress up, and listening to the Wizarding Wireless Network-- often whilst dancing about the room-- or exploring the Greengrass family attic (full of many intriguing artifacts) with Astoria tagging along.

Although the Greengrass family didn’t produce anymore children, they all settled into a relatively happy pureblood family. Then Daphne turned eleven, and left for Hogwarts. She was neither excited nor particularly afraid as she already had friends through her family connections. She was sorted into Slytherin, the same as her father and mother, and soon became known as one of the girls often seen about with Pansy Parkinson. Parkinson had spunk, and Daphne found it amusing.

Daphne went about her Hogwarts years like most the others in Harry Potter’s year… in constant threat of something odd or dangerous happening at their school, and for the Golden Boy (as she likes to refer to him as), Potter, saving the day and getting loads of attention for it. Daphne wasn’t really impressed. He just had talented friends (or so she figures). In fact, she wasn’t fussed about a lot of things. For instance, the Bloody Baron, instead of creeping her out, sort of amused her. And Quidditch, it was really only good when Slytherin won and could claim bragging rights over other houses. But not being fussed didn’t mean she didn’t like it. She actually enjoyed her time at Hogwarts quite a bit, besides the blatant Gryffindor favoritism.

Unlike most Slytherin (and maybe a few others) girls, Daphne wasn’t wooed over by Draco Malfoy’s Lord of Slytherin act, or Blaise Zabini’s stunning good looks. She wasn’t sure why, she just wasn’t. It wasn’t that she didn’t like boys, she did (and still does). In fact, when Adrian Pucey invited her to the Yule Ball, she accepted, and the pair hit it off—for a while. The pair dated for close to two years, before they broke it off. This was mostly to do with Pucey being finished with Hogwarts. Daphne wasn’t the long distance relationship kind of witch, so she was finished with him.

Daphne spent the rest of her Hogwarts time watching things heat up politically and get much darker. She knew that a Yaxley or two may have been involved with the Death Eaters, but the Greengrass side of her family stayed clear, despite their staunch belief in blood purity. This didn’t bother her, because many other good families didn’t get involved, Blaise’s for example. She delved into her subjects taking a particular interest in Arithmancy and secondary interest in Astronomy. She took her O.W.L.S, and was able to make up her N.E.W.T.s the summer after Voldemort’s demise.

O.W.L.S
Arithmancy: O
Ancient Runes: E
Astronomy: O
Charms: E
Defense Against the Dark Arts: A
Herbology: A
History of Magic: A
Potions: A
Transfiguration: E

N.E.W.T.s
(in order of interest)

Arithmancy, Astronomy, Transfiguration, Ancient Runes, Charms

She watched unhappily as many members of some of the oldest pureblood families were sentenced to the Kiss. This included a very prominent member of society, Lucius Malfoy. She thought it was completely inhumane, and more than that rather pointless. She couldn’t ever recall reading about a large performance of the Kiss on a group of magical beings this size. The Kiss to her is worse than Avada Kedavra, because at least with Avada Kedavra you don’t have to be a shell of human existence, wasting away into the inevitable death. It’s quick.

Quickly after Hogwarts, Daphne obtained a job working with the numbers she has a love for. She has been working as a financial advisor at Obscurus Books, the biggest publisher in the wizarding world. She sometimes does freelance work for some of the authors or other people with more than a few Galleons in the bank. She’s become quite good at her profession, and it had really paid off. So, as far as that aspect of her personal life, she is happy. Her sister just recently finished her studies, and Daphne is hoping that Astoria puts herself on a good path too. Other than that, Daphne always keeps her eyes open for new opportunities.

Plotting

What short and long term goals do you have for your character?:

Daphne is always looking to move in what she considers the right circles, and she wouldn’t mind a few genuine connections—friendships-- either. Of course, this would, for Daphne, include rekindling some of the friendships of her Hogwarts years.

I think she has a lot of potential to get wrapped up in things. She has connections. She has ideas. She’s not afraid of dirty work, if she can still emulate the image of being clean handed.

How does your character feel about the post-war world? (The Wizarding Community becoming more open to muggles, captured Death Eaters receiving the kiss, or being stripped of their wealth and property for lesser offences):

Daphne isn’t exactly happy with the post-war world. She thinks the idea of letting Muggles in the wizarding world is mad. The two groups have been separate for over a thousand years, and Daphne sees little to be gained by changing that. She understands the Ministry’s need to rebuild and make repercussions, by taking away money from some of the Death Eater’s families, but she thinks perhaps they are taking too much or being too harsh. As for the Kiss, she finds that rather pointless, as has been detailed above.

Now that we are familiar with your characterization, please provide us with role playing sample so that we can get an idea of your writing style.

Writing Sample

The thing about books in the wizarding world is that they pretty much sold themselves. Every Hogwarts student had to buy them, any knowledge of history or spells could be found in them, and many bought them for recreational purposes. They were always being produced and always being sold. This meant that Daphne was always having plenty to do at the biggest British publisher, Obscurus Books—even if there was a bloody parade for some Mudblood going on right in the middle of Diagon Alley.

Daphne Greengrass saw the building at the other end of the alley, a rather large one, grey stone, that housed her workplace. The throngs of people that obstructed her from her goal made her mouth twist out of irritation. She began to fight through the crowd that seemed to get louder and louder. After about ten minutes she was close enough to the building to see the steps that led inside. It was then that she felt a particularly violent jostle from the crowd—something had happened in the promenade portion of the parade. Daphne felt herself being knocked on to the wall, another person landing on her.

Riiip.

Daphne stared at the steel blue material of her robes that had ripped from her knee to her rib. She was absolutely mortified.

“Oi! Sorry about that. The crowd got a little rambunctious. I can, er, have it fixed for you,” a burly, young man rambled out an apology. She looked at him waiting for him to fulfill this promise. He pulled out a sack of coins—magical coins. “Er, I’m sorry. I haven’t quite gotten the hang of these coins yet.”

Daphne’s eyes widened. “That’s not necessary.” She pulled out the wand, and with a simple flick and ‘Reparo’ the dress robes were as good as new. The man was staring in awe. She fought not to roll her eyes.

“I just can’t believe how you do that! It’s bloody brilliant! And all this time we never knew.” His wide eyes stared at her.

“Imagine that,” Daphne said dryly, thinking that she should leave now and get away from this Muggle.

“I’m Ian Murphy. I work for security for the Prime Minister. It’s quite fantastic that—” She was fairly certain he was blathering on about something, but she wasn’t quite sure what.

I’m on a street, in the middle of a celebratory parade for a damned Muggle. Another one has completely ripped my dress, continues to talk to me as if he knows me, and no one thinks anything of it. This is ludicrous.

Effing wanker.

Revolting, that our world is destroying its self.

“Miss?”

Daphne blinked.

“I just thought, since our worlds were coming together, perhaps we should do the same. Lunch maybe in London?”

Daphne shook her head, “Not today. Not ever.” She turned on her heel and briskly walked into the building that had been her aim. She left him confused. She felt very confused herself. How had the world she grew up in changed so fast? And more importantly, could it be reversed?

She was doubtful.
