Application for Regulus Black Player Information Name: veetee Age(must be 18+): 18 IM screen names: Email: refracted.ion@gmail.com
Where did you hear about us?: Through the regulus_is_love post on LiveJournal.
Why did you apply to Tempus Fugit, and what do you feel you can bring to the game?: I'm applying to Tempus Fugit, because it's been a little while since I've been in a large Harry Potter RP, and I miss the atmosphere of having so many writers collaborate on something. I also love exploring the depth of Regulus Black, because I really think he had to have had a lot more to him, and I've had a lot of fun playing and writing Regulus so far, and would love to continue with his character.
Previous RP experience: I was involved in some Harry Potter RPs on LiveJournal a while back, and one on a SuddenLaunch board. I have played Remus Lupin, Regulus Black, Teddy Lupin (but very briefly) and an original Death Eater character. Also, on SuddenLaunch sites, I have been involved in three X-Men AUs, a Constantine, and three original storylines. Additionally, I also daily RP with a dear friend of mine, and we've moved from several different fandoms and original storylines, including Harry Potter.
Character Information
Name of character you are applying for: Regulus Arcturus Black
Age of character you are applying for(physical age, if one of the resurrected): 18
Birthday: May 11, 1961
PB: Ben Barnes
Wand: Aspen, 10" with a core of Unicorn hair. Aspen is known for being detached and more prone to a world of its own, but is good for protection from darkness and overcoming fears. Unicorn hair, for innocence.
House at Hogwarts: Slytherin
Family Parents: Orion and Walburga Black Siblings: Sirius Black Family interactions (how does your character get along with his/her family members?): Regulus enjoyed playing the role of the younger brother in his family. He was good friends with his brother (who was his hero) up until the other left for Hogwarts, and Sirius was suddenly infamous amongst the family for becoming a Gryffindor. Until then, Regulus had received attention from his family, but was the second son, not gaining in the same kind of light that Sirius did. It was an uncomfortable transition when all of Sirius' feedback was abruptly negative, as Regulus lost his friend, but was also expected to pick up the other's neglected responsibilties and be the loyal son (which was only increased by Sirius' complete desertion of the family years later).
He attempted to fulfill his parents' expectations, feeling uncertain every now and then, but never near enough to try and turn against his parents' sentiments.
Occupation: Unemployed, he wasn't out of school long enough to have a career. Residence: Formerly his parents' home, Grimmauld Place. Financial status: While alive, very rich and spoiled. Since he's coming back from the dead, not so much.
Political views: Regulus joined up as a Death Eater, but used the last part of his life in order to help secure the world against the Dark Lord.
Blood Status: Pureblood
Sexuality (Please note, if you are playing a pureblood character who is also gay/bisexual, there are guidelines): Regulus is bisexual, but it was never known. It wasn't a long stretch for him to hide this, because he was never allowed to date even certain women, so it was merely another variable in dating and sexual relationships that he either had to ignore or hide.
Physical description
Height: 5'9 Weight: 165 Distinguishing marks: The Dark Mark, and he often grins crookedly, the right side of his mouth coming up a bit above the left.
Give us a description of your character's appearance: Regulus is average height, and pretty lanky, but decently muscled. He has dark hair. He prefers to keep it long, but it will often be quite a messy and slightly wavy; it doesn't naturally fall in certain way. He has dark eyes, a trademark of his mother's, and his skin is usually pale. He also usually has a few scrapes or bruises on account of the fact that he's unbearably clumsy.
Give us a description of your character's personality (for example, are they a confident person? Do they speak their mind? What are their flaws and good points? We want to know that you have a good understanding of your character, so feel free to use examples and make it as in depth as possible): Regulus gets along very easily with most people. He's fairly friendly, and loves to converse and be in big groups of people. Generally, he enjoys being able to just have a good time. However, he can be a bit of a coward. He's not one to try and stand out against what somebody is saying, is more likely to accept it and be moved along with the situation. Obviously, this is how he gets so easily caught up in the concept of the Death Eaters.
Additionally, Regulus can be very lazy. He's accustomed to a lifestyle where he doesn't have to do much for himself. It takes a lot for him to truly care, so his meager attempts in school were often paltry. He was especially poor at Potions. One thing he did really care about while in school, though, was Quidditch.
He's stubborn, and prone to being bratty when he doesn't get his way.
History Please give us a brief history of what happened to your character past canon to bring them to this point. if playing an OC, please give a much longer history to show how your character fits into this world. Regulus died very early on, and hence has no knowledge of what has occurred after his death. As with everyone else, he wakes up disorientated in the Forbidden Forest, and then travels on to Grimmauld Place.
Resurrected Characters (please ignore if not applicable to your character)
If you are applying for someone who is still alive at the end of the series, and would like them to be considered for death and resurrection, please explain why: Not alive at the end of the series.
If your character is one of the resurrected, what is their last memory and why have they returned at their particular age?: Regulus' last memory is actually the moment he decided to take a stand against the Dark Lord. He has no recollection of actually destroying the locket, only the instant when he realized that the Hocruxes were the Dark Lord's weakness, and that he had the ability to destroy one, with Kreacher's help.
Each person who returns from the dead using the magic of the resurrection stone must have a reason to come back. Not only would the character want to return, they must be needed by someone for something. Why have they been brought back? Who wanted them to return? Why? Regulus would believe that he would be brought back for the purpose of finishing what he started with the Horcruxes, but would actually need to find some semblance of closure and atonement in the various relationships that were so misguided while he was alive. He needs to apologize and explain himself. In particular of importance, would be his brother.
Plotting
What short and long term goals do you have for your character?: Seeing the place the world has become paired with Regulus' sentiments before he died, Regulus would try and track down Sirius, and at least apologize, if not try and form a new sort of relationship with him. Additionally, it would be a pressing concern to Regulus exactly what happened to the Horcruxes (especially the locket), and after hearing how they were destroyed, what happened to the Dark Lord. Basically, catching up to speed. Also, a longer goal would be to find the rest of his family.
How does your character feel about the post-war world? (The Wizarding Community becoming more open to muggles, captured Death Eaters receiving the kiss, or being stripped of their wealth and property for lesser offences): Regulus would feel very confused about this. He died at a point in his life where his ideals were just starting to change; he felt that the ways of the Dark Lord were evil and wrong, but essentially he was still raised to believe that purebloods were above the rest of society. He would be willing to try out this new way of life, but it would probably be a very difficult transition for him, since he's had so little exposure to Muggles.
Now that we are familiar with your characterization, please provide us with role playing sample so that we can get an idea of your writing style. Regulus could feel the rain streaming across his face in freezing sheets. His hair, which had been tied back at one point, was whipped forward, sticking messily to his skin. He could feel it at the corners of his mouth, and tried to shift his face a little to make it come free, but that only incited the cut that was currently tearing apart his right cheek. He had been hit early on by a stray Bludger, darting past him. It didn't hit him head on (would he have a head anymore, if it had?), but it had grazed him, bruising his face and cracking the goggles he was wearing. His hands, stiff in their gloves, flexed a little against the end of his broom, numb from the cold. Somehow, though, it didn't really bother him. He felt weightless in the center of the sky, waiting for the glimpse of gold that would send him propelling forward, hands outstretched for a glimpse of the only glory that mattered to him.
Regulus was relaxed, enjoying the relative solitude of floating hundreds of feet above the ground while being surrounded by the crushing sound of announcements, and swirl of other bodies, clad in green and silver, red and gold all about him. Here. Here was the only place he could think, be still for a moment, solely concentrated on a single task.
His eyes scanned the field below him, watching as the figures moved through the rain, Gryffindor scoring another goal. Against his broom, he could practically feel the outline of the shape on his arm, dark and consuming. And, for some unknown reason, always irritating his skin.
In the locker rooms, Regulus was always careful to hide the Dark Mark, slipping and lacing his gloves on before he took off his school robes. There were two others that were always flaunting them, letting it be known that the Dark Lord had picked them, exclusively, they were favored amongst his circle. Regulus said nothing, would smile and joke with one of the Beaters, who would roll his eyes in a good nature. But he knew it sometimes that the others would be drawn to the fact that he was careful on never showing his arm, letting their gaze linger just a moment too long on where his glove tucked the tattoo into hiding.
He could feel the fear well back up inside him at the thought of it and tried to choke it back down. It had been a relief when he had been allowed to leave for Hogwarts after a summer of parading around in long, black robes and silver masks. At Hogwarts, for the most part, he couldn't be touched. The idea, though, was always there. This was what he sworn himself to, and was awaiting him at the end of the year. He would be swallowed by this new way of life, forced to kill and torture on a whim. The Dark Lord's whim.
Regulus hadn't thought it would be like this, hadn't realized the depth of what was going to do, and now he wasn't sure -
There was a flash of gold above his head, and Regulus shot up into the storm clouds, letting the impression of the Snitch in the sky erase the rest of his doubts.
