Application for Luna Lovegood Player Information Name: Laura Age: 23 IM screen names: lunapateo
Where did you hear about us?: Kimberly, Sam, and Alpha
Why did you apply to Tempus Fugit, and what do you feel you can bring to the game?: I have a true passion for playing Luna, and I believe I do her justice. I feel this is a game where she can be both dreamy and relevant. I also feel I have the potential to contribute long-term plot arcs and character development.
Previous RP experience: I've played Bella, Luna, and Sirius multiple times, some on web communities, some in round-robin fashion.
Character Information
Name of character you are applying for: Luna Lovegood
Age of character you are applying for: 19
Birthday: November 28, 1981
PB: Drew Barrymore
Wand: 13 inches, maple, unicorn hair
House at Hogwarts: Ravenclaw (1992-1999)
Family Parents: Selene and Xenophilius Lovegood Siblings: None Family interactions: Her mother had been a soft spoken witch with a vibrant zeal for life, which she had attempted to expose her daughter to as often as possible, encouraging her to explore and learn of the world around her. This was how Luna acquired a great fondness for ambling through forests. Her doting, eccentric father became somewhat withdrawn after the death of her mother, something she attributed to their great resemblance. Although he eventually recovered Luna had gotten rather into the habit of taking care of him by preparing their meals and tending to the housework. When Luna eventually went off to school it took time for him to adjust back to total self-reliance. This now occasionally causes tension, as he now prides himself on his independence, and is part of the reason Luna felt it was time to find a place of her own.
Occupation: Budding naturalist/journalist Residence: A studio flat in London Financial status: Living comfortably, but not extravagantly
Political views: She has supported the Order of the Phoenix in the past, and currently supports equal rights for all creatures within the magical world.
Blood Status: Her mother was a witch and her father is a wizard, but it is rather likely that her extended parentage contains some muggle intermarriage.
Sexuality: She concludes she is likely heterosexual, as she has yet to feel more than aesthetic appreciation for other women.
Physical description
Height: 5'5” Weight: 120 lbs Distinguishing marks: None apart from eyes that always seem opened slightly wider than normal and holding a serene, inquisitive expression. She maintains her affectionate appreciation for what others might call obscure jewelry.
Give us a description of your character's appearance: Her expression perches delicately on her mouth, as if ready to blow away with a light breeze, while her eyes remain protuberant as ever. Her misty eyes are a frosted pale blue-green, like sea foam atop the waves. Her hair darkened slightly as she had gotten older, to a darker dirty blond which she now wears a bit shorter. During her last years at Hogwarts she managed to pick up something of an interest in her appearance, developing an easy, relaxed style.
Give us a description of your character's personality: She remains generally untroubled by the opinions of others. Although soft spoken, she still maintains a gregarious air when meeting new people. Though as much as she enjoys spending time with the few she considers her friends, she finds long, busy social interactions draining. Luna does not often bother with speaking up for herself, instead finding it more productive to speak on behalf of a cause or course of action. This is not to say she is cannot be assertive, but she simply enjoys picking her battles for those of some significance. When it comes to her occasionally blunt observations, Luna believes that sometimes things simply needed to be said aloud, just as somethings simply needed to be done. And sometimes she simply enjoys sharing her thoughts. She possess a slow very slow fuse but is keenly defensive of those she cares for, sometimes to a fault.
A jar in her small but adequate kitchen is never without her favorite candy, Sansibar's Sour Sweets. She also continues to tuck her wand behind her ear for safe keeping. In her moments of serious contemplation she will usually absently twist a strand of hair. With a notable preference for being barefoot, she avoids shoes whenever she can. Luna has an unintentional habit of staring at people. Often unaware that constant eye contact makes other people feel awkward, this is exacerbated by the fact that she feels the need to blink with much less frequency that those around her.
Her calm demeanor and optimism remain intact, and the conviction of her beliefs gives her ethereal aura a sense of underlying seriousness. Two tenets govern Luna's outlook on life. First is an unshakable open-mindedness. Although Hermione had charitably called her gullible, she she is learning to first examine all lines of evidence available before exalting her belief in something. However, no option is dismissed outright without serious consideration. Secondly, the saving grace to Luna's spirit and optimism, is her ability to see something beautiful in even the more destitute situations, which extends from her belief that good could come out of every single thing that happens.
History When she returned to school, she greatly enjoyed a greater level of acceptance among her peers; though not to say that many didn't remain put off by her oddities. In face the house rivalries seemed less pointed – except perhaps with Slytherin. Watching the house become more aggressively targeted, Luna found herself with a few new companions as a result to her gregarious overtures. That she kept company with Slytherins almost as often as nearly any other house was something the rest of her peers seemed to frown upon. So in the end, little changed in her most of her interactions with her classmates.
After graduating from Hogwarts Luna and her father spent a year traveling abroad, investigating and researching obscure legends of any magical creature they could find. Although they never found a crumple-horned snorkack, they completely inadvertently confirmed the existence of the dahu tamarous in Switzerland, much to their combined delight. Luna is beginning to suspect that crumple-horned snorkacks may not exist after all, but is nonetheless bolstered by their new discovery. Though her father would much prefer that she follow in his editorial footsteps, Luna has been pursuing magizoology. After the Lovegoods were credited with the discovery of dahu tamarous, and upon their return to Britain, Luna took an entry position as a peer reviewer for the scholarly wizarding journal, Magizoologist Monthly. She moved to a flat in London to be closer to their offices and is currently taking advanced correspondence courses in magizoology and herbology. She is trying to decide whether she would like to become a full time naturalist, or pursue on to teach.
Plotting
What short and long term goals do you have for your character?: Short term: She would very much like to reconnect with Harry, Ginny, Neville, Hermione, and Ron. Long term: She would love to join the Order of the Phoenix should the need arise. She will most likely conclude that she would like to teach, and would thus be inclined to pursue a teaching position at Hogwarts. Depending on how the game plays out, she might also like to write for the Prophet.
How does your character feel about the post-war world?: Luna is quite pleased by the now more hospitable climate to muggles, but believes the rather stark role reversal of oppressors and the oppressed is far from healthy. She rather passionately disagrees with the practice of exposing all Death Eaters to the Kiss. One of the greatest concern she has with fully incorporating muggles into the wizarding world is the possibility that wizarding ailments and illnesses might affect muggles rather differently. However, she has not yet determined if she thinks muggle inetgration could be successful, or even if it was prudent to make the attempt.

Luna couldn't imagine what had caused such a great loud noise to come from her mother's greenhouse. Rushing in from their garden, she found the entire room covered in a blanket of snow; except instead of bringing a chill, the snow seemed to radiate warmth. Tucked in the corner was her mother's over-turned cauldron, just a few feet from her mother, who lay sprawled out on the floor.
Taking swift but delicate steps Luna hurried to her side. Something wasn't right, even the nine year old girl could see there was something terribly peculiar about the angles of her limbs. Her normally easy features seemed strained and tight. Drifting to her knees, Luna lent over her, surrounded by the fan of the older witch's lavender robes. Her father was off for a seminar in Sweden. The closest family was the Weasleys, too far away to reach in what Luna couldn't help but feel was an inexplicably shrinking window of time.
“Oh my,” her mother gasped. conversationally “I suppose it seems your father had a point about the volatile nature of some spells.”
“Mother-” Luna began, brow furrowed in concern.
“Seems that last one got somewhat away from me,” she went on, her tone quite pleasant, if little louder than a whisper.
“Are you-”
“I think I may have quite outdone myself this time.” Luna could not bring herself to speak again as her mother laboriously drew another breath. “You must take care of your father, he's going to need taking care of. My bright, shining girl. You're just the one for the job. Now what is this for?” she asked, feebly wiping the single tear from her daughter's nose.
“I don't want you to leave me,” Luna explained, taking hold of her hand. Surely her mother understood how much she would miss her, how much she needed her.
“Oh no, my darling girl,” she breathed, her face shrouded in a soft, wistful smile. “We will see each other again. Death is not an end, death is...”
And the just like that, Luna saw the light fade from her mother's eyes. She had never realized how alight they had been before, how beautiful the life that sparkled inside them was. And then, slowly at first, and then quite suddenly altogether, Luna saw how beautiful everything was, and her wide eyes opened even further in surprise. She would be unable to recall how long she sat, transfixed and overwhelmed by it all.
Curiously touching her hand to her cheek, Luna realized tears were streaming silently down her face. With a light sigh she rocked back onto her heels, then reclined in the warm, comforting snow. An ache filled her chest as she watched her tears drip from her fingertips. And she could now see the beauty in that, too – that she could love her mother so much, that it would hurt so badly when she left.
