A bell sounded, echoing off the metal walls. Riddick watched as people ran past, heading for the basket lowering from the ceiling. The massed together, shifting restlessly as they looked at the food-laden basket. Silver eyes narrowed as they parted before Spike, allowing the blonde to step through easily. Gesturing the blonde waited as a few stepped forward and removed a large portion of the food, handing it over. Nodding, Spike walked away, leaving the rest to descend on the basket in a wave of shoving and hitting, all desperate to get something to eat.

Riddick stood out of the way, watching as several of the smaller inmates inched closer, holding out handfuls of food, their eyes hopeful. Snorting, he shook his head and waked off, leaving the confused people behind. Curious, he head in the direction that Spike had gone, wondering what power the blonde held over the prison's population. He caught up to the smaller man in one of the underground passages and watched as the food was handed over to Xander, who smiled in thanks as the blonde sat beside him.

"Hello there," Spike called, sneering at Riddick. "Get anything to eat?"

"Not hungry," the Furyian said, sinking down on his haunches beside them.

"Get any offers?" the blonde smirked.

Riddick stared hard at him from behind dark goggles, wondering if he had set up the whole thing. The longer he stared the more the blonde's smirk grew until he was grinning evilly. Xander snickered beside them as he ate the food he had been given. After a moment the one-eyed man handed some of the food to Spike, nudging him to hand it to Riddick.

"Got to eat to keep your strength. Dangerous if you don't," the dark haired man advised when the bald man looked down at the piece of bread.

"Shouldn't you worry about your mate?" Riddick said lowly.

"Nothing here's that dangerous to me," laughed the smaller man. "And I have my own food source."

"Don't worry," the one-eyed man assured him with a grin. "You'll understand later."

The cryptic statement reminded the Furyian of Aereon, making him glad he didn't have to deal with the air elemental any longer. "Why not now?" he growled.

"You're not ready," Spike shrugged, snagging a piece of food from his mate.

"Not much in the universe that I'm not ready for," Riddick stated.

"Fine then," the blonde shrugged again.

Suddenly he turned and lunged at Riddick, toppling the larger man to the ground. The Furyian looked up into the twisted features and golden eyes in a state of shock. He might have found something he wasn't ready for after all. Pain flared in his neck and darkness settled over him, dragging him down.

Awareness filtered in slowly and Riddick pushed himself into a seated position with a groan. A quick glance around showed only Xander in the immediate area. The dark haired man smiled and came over, crouching down to peer at Riddick.

"Well, looks like he didn't rip you too much," Xander said, standing back up. "You'll be fine in a little while."

"What is he?" Riddick growled.

"He's Spike," replied Xander. "Once known as William the Bloody. But that was a long time from here. Ancient history now."

"What is he?" asked Riddick again, this time trying to push himself to his feet. He swayed and large callused hands helped him back down.

"Careful, you lost a fair amount of blood," Xander scolded him. "As for what Spike is, that's a story for another time. Right now he's out reminded the others that he's in charge."

"He do that often?"

"To avoid a total bloodbath, yes," shrugged the young man. "He could do without it, but then we'd have a lot to do by ourselves."

Riddick stared at the young man. "Spike said that you built this place."

Xander nodded. "Was approached a few years back. They asked me to design a new prison, one that no one could get out of and so I did. Then they asked me to build it. I brought in my best crew, we had the place done ahead of schedule and everything looked good." He went quiet.

"What happened?"

A lone dark eye met silver ones and Riddick shivered at the emptiness he could see in Xander's gaze. "What always happens," the one eyed man laughed hollowly. "I was betrayed."
