St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries
Welcome to Tangled Web's St Mungo's breakdown! Here we will discuss the different wards contained in St Mungo's. This will be useful for choosing which department your character might like to work in.
Let's start!
After the defeat of Voldemort, St Mungo's underwent renovation. Three more floors were added, and the whole layout was rearranged. St Mungo's now employs a team of witches who will help you find the floor you need. The floor plan is as follows:
Ground Floor: Visitor's Tearoom and Hospital Shop. The tearoom and shop are located on the next floor down from the reception area.
First Floor: Trauma Ward. This is the magical equivalent of the Muggle A&E. This is the ward for anyone who has suffered a major accident, usually victims of magical backfires. This is the only floor that can be Apparated to directly. The Trauma team wear blue robes to distinguish them from the rest of the Healers.
Second Floor: Maternity Ward. The maternity ward is the place for pregnant witches. It is a quiet place for them to bring their new children into the world. The maternity Healers wear pink robes to distinguis themselves from other Healers.
Third Floor: Treatment for Other Magical Beings. This floor was created especially for the treatment of other magical beings. There are separate wards for different types of beings, such as House Elves (who can Apparate directly onto the ward), Centaurs (a ward that so far remains unused), and a special ward for Merpeople.
Fourth Floor: Artifact Accidents. This ward treats things such as cauldron explosions, broom crashes, and minor magical backfires.
Fifth Floor: Creature-Induced Injuries. Also called the "Dangerous" Dai Llewellyn Ward, after a famous Quidditch player. This ward treats bites, stings, burns, and other creature-related injuries. This is the ward that Arthur Weasley visited during Harry Potter's fifth year.
Sixth Floor: Magical Bugs. This is the ward that deals with contagious bugs such as dragon pox, vanishing fungus and scrofungulus.
Seventh Floor: Potion and Plant Poisoning. This ward deals with the after effects of potions and plants, such as rashes and regurgitation. This ward also deals with the effects of a wrongly brewed or administered potion.
Eighth Floor: Children's Ward. This is the ward for magical children. The most common cases found here are children who are just discovering their magical abilities and have no control over them.
Ninth Floor: Spell Damage. This ward treats patients who are suffering from spell damage. There are beds here for patients who can be cured (for example, patients suffering from short-term memory loss dueto a backfiring charm) but this floor also contains the Jan Thickey ward (or Ward 49), which is the ward for long-term residents; those whose condition will likely never improve. Known residents of this ward include Frand and Alice Longbottom and Gilderoy Lockhart.
