Who: Morag and Stephen
When: Saturday afternoon
Where: Ravenclaw Common Room
Rating: PG? We'll see
Status: In-progress thread

Morag still hadn't found her notes, and it was beginning to wear on her a bit. She'd never gone so long without her notes before. It was hard. It made proper studying completely impossible. How could she possibly study everything if she didn't have her notes? Which just settled it. She hadn't found them yet, so she had to write them over.

She'd set herself up in her favorite corner of the common room with a notebook and a pen - Muggle, yes, but oh so useful. A bit like a Self Inking Quill, but pens tended to be less messy, which was a definite plus when one was writing quite a lot. So there she was in her corner, hunched over her Charms text and notebook, scribbling furiously.

Stephen had spent the better half of the morning combing the castle for Morag's notes. He'd searched the common room, the library and all the hallways, passageways and classrooms between the library and Ravenclaw tower. Luckily no one had asked what he was doing because he would no doubt have blushed and said something stupid. Or worse, admitted the truth.

He returned to the common room empty handed and stopped abruptly in the doorway when he saw the object of his thoughts sitting in the corner. Steeling his nerves, he approached her, trying to appear casual.

"Hi Morag," he said, perching on the edge of the seat next to her.

Morag was so intensely focused on her note-taking that she hadn't noticed Stephen's arrival until he spoke. She looked up from her notes, setting down her pen and forcing herself to straighten up from where she'd been hunched over her book.

"Hello, Stephen," she murmured with a gentle smile. "I thought everyone was outside, enjoying the weather. What brings you back to the common room?"

Ah, yes. The nice weather. That would be the sane place to be right now instead of breathing in dust.

"Oh, you know, studying," he said awkwardly, making himself more comfortable in the seat. "I wanted to see if you'd had any luck finding your notes or if you wanted to borrow mine."

"No luck at all," Morag replied almost mournfully. "They've vanished forever, I'm afraid. Either that or I'll find them as soon as I've finished writing new ones." She'd almost forgotten Stephen's offer, though, and a smile lit across her face.

"I would love to look through your notes, if you don't mind. It would certainly be easier than looking through the text and trying to remember what important information it was I was supposed to write down."

"They'll probably turn up after NEWTs," he agreed. "And probably somewhere you've checked five times."

He smiled, already rifling through his bag to find them. "No problem. I've rewritten them about ten times and I'd say they're as good as I can make them. It's my favourite subject so I make even more of an effort than usual." He grinned sheepishly and handed her the notebook he used.

Morag laughed a little and shook her head ruefully. "I'm sure they will," she replied. "I'll go up to the dorm after the exam and they'll be right there, sitting on my bed, waiting for me."

Her smile softened when Stephen handed her his notebook, cradling it gently to her chest for a moment. "...You should stay and study with me. I mean, if you're going to be studying anyway... we might as well study together. What were you planning to cover?"

He smiled, glad to hear her laugh. "That always seems to be the way. You really do start to wonder if they have minds of their own sometimes."

Stephen tried to look like he was thinking about this but truthfully, he was glad he didn't have to come up with a reason for staying in the common room to study.

"I could probably do with a good influence," he said with a smile, puling his bag back towards him. "I was going to have a look over my notes for Muggle Studies again. I could do with your help on Ancient Runes to be honest but if you're busy, don't worry about it."

"I'm not that busy," Morag assured him, marking her place in her Charms text and setting it aside with the notes she'd tried to make and the notes Stephen had so graciously loaned her. He was very sweet for doing that. She'd have to think up some lovely way of thanking him.

"It will be good for me to take a break from Charms. I've been working on it since breakfast. ...With what in Runes did you need help?"

"Well, if I can help you, you'll just have to let me know," he said, smiling awkwardly as he came to sit in the chair beside her so they could work off the same table.

"I don't even know if it's fixable, to be honest," Stephen admitted. "I just can't keep the logograms straight, it's doing my head in. I can't seem to work out a pattern to translating them either. Maybe I should just go back to Muggle Studies."

"Don't give up," Morag chided gently, giving him a little finger waggle. "Everything is fixable. Some things just take an extra set of eyes to see what might be going on. Let's look at what you have right now and we'll figure out how to get you on the right track, yeah?" She smiled and patted the table, motioning for him to take out his Runes work.
