Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:! 1999 april, andrew kirke, ginny weasley

Who: Ginny Weasley and Andy Kirke
Where: The Gryffindor Common Room.
When: Sunday evening, April 18, 1999, after dinner.
What: Ginny and Andy are up to no good. Surprise, surprise!
Rating: Er, PG-13 at worst, and that would be for language, I'll bet.
Status: Thread / Incomplete.

It had been far too long since Ginny and Andy had done anything wild, Andy realised, as he sat in the common room by the fireplace. He'd remedy that as soon as he saw his friend, he promised himself. His next thought was that it was far too cold to be late April. Thank Merlin for the fireplace, and for the younger years actually shying away from him when he came to steal the comfy chair he was lounging in.

Of course, Andy could have been doing one of the many assignments that he'd been assigned in recent days, but none of them were due tomorrow, so he was neglecting them in favour of lounging in the chair. He couldn't honestly say he was even plotting at the moment. It was more vegetative with the occasional thought rolling around in his head. Andy closed his eyes. He could fall asleep here...

Ginny was on her way in from the pitch. She had been sneaking in extra training sessions any chance she had free. Her dismal performance at the last match certainly warranted it and she was determined to bring her best to the next match they had. She'd never find herself a professional Quiddy spot if she kept on the way she'd been playing and seeing as that was the goal, she was working as hard as she could to fix it.

Hair still vaguely damp from the shower she'd taken in the locker room she climbed through the portrait hole. She was about to head up to her bed, muscles aching from the workout, but her eyes fell on her mate who had his eyes closed. It was just too perfect to pass up. She could've been sleepwalking and still would've taken the opportunity.

Creeping up silently as she could manage, she made sure to quiet anyone who might've blown her cover. When she got close enough, she crouched down behind the back of the armchair and took in a deep breath. Jumping up she yelled as loudly as she could manage. "HI ANDY, LONG TIME NO SEE!"

Andy's head snapped forward and his arms flailed as he was rousted from his peaceful rest. "HOLY SHITE," he exclaimed, nearly jumping out of the chair. He was disoriented for a moment, and the room seemed to be spinning slowly until he was able to place himself. Right. He was in the common room. By the fireplace. Everything had been quiet. And then...

Andy whipped his head around to see who had caused the ruckus. He already knew, as the voice was quite distinctive and familiar. Yes, there was Ginny, looking all too pleased with herself. He pursed his lips.

There were two options, of course. Andy could get mad, or he could laugh at the fact that he was the butt of his mate's teasing. He gave her a smile, knowing he'd have done the same were the roles reversed. "Hullo," he offered in a far more appropriate volume. "I see you've missed me."

Ginny grinned widely, having to stifle a laugh at Andy's reaction. Oh that had been bloody perfect. Entirely and completely worth it. Gods, that was brilliant. Better that he had smiled in reaction to it, of course. But of course he had. It was Andy. She'd have been worried if he'd reacted any other way.

"Terribly so." She said, still louder than him, but far calmer than the scream that had stirred him. The smile was still wide across her face. "Been hiding from me, Kirke?" She teased as she moved around to the other side of the chair. Scrunching her nose she looked for a place to sit and let out a sigh when she didn't see one. Bugger. Bloody firsties. With a shrug, she perched herself on the arm of Andy's chair. "What have you been up to aside from leaving yourself as open prey in the common room?"

Andy scooted over so that Ginny could have the entire armrest, which was quite a feat, seeing how large he was. It hadn't always been that way, but now that it was, Andy was still getting accustomed to his bigger build. Of course, it would be nice if he could fill out a bit more in relation to the awesome height. In time, he supposed. Still, he felt a bit like Gumby.

"Yes, of course. Your last couple of journal entries made me convinced you were looking for blood." Well, the last one, anyway. Not that Andy was going to be specific with all the first years around, but he was fairly certain they'd all seen it. The entire school had seen it. Now, though, was not the time to discuss it with all the impressionable ears about.

"As for me, I've been considering my revenge on Peeves," he said nonchalantly. "He bombed Cornfoot and I with water balloons last week." It had been an unpleasant experience, mostly because it bloody well hurt to have one explode against the neck, and Andy was not going to let the poltergeist get away with it. Not this time. He didn't have anything planned yet, but oh, he was thinking, and thinking led to plotting, and plotting led to action. All he needed was a brilliant idea. It would come eventually.

Ginny pursed her lips when she realized that they both didn't fit on the chair the way they used to. Him and his damn growth spurts. She wondered vaguely how long until he was brushing his head against the ceiling. "You're getting too big. Stop it would you?" She remarked as she shifted on the armrest trying to keep her balance.

"Oh. Yeah..." She gave a sheepish sort of smile and shrugged. "I've calmed down since." The redhead assured him. "Ron and I talked and he didn't even get hurt like!" She was clearly vastly impressed with herself for that feat. "Anyhow, it's sorted and all."

"Bastard better pay properly for that. Water balloons? We can do better, don't you reckon?" Her mind was already working, turning ideas over and trying to figure how they'd carry them out. "Pudding? Fireworks? Cornish Pixies?" She was musing aloud. The pixies were a joke of course. No matter how exceedingly brilliant that would be, where in hell would they get them in time?

Andy laughed. "I like being tall," he answered honestly. It surely beat being average, he'd learned. In fact, though people tended to stare at him on occasion because he, indeed, looked too thin for his height, there were distinct advantages. "It evens us out or summat," he pointed out. Ginny was so little that adding the sum of them and dividing by two would equal to a normal-sized person.

"I'm glad to hear it. Last thing I'd want is to have you yelling in my ear if you were in a foul mood," Andy answered with a grin. Ginny's temper was something to be reckoned with, and Andy found it best avoided all together. "And good to hear you're not going to be expelled for killing Ron." Because, really, in a fight, Andy's money would be on Ginny.

Could they do better than water balloons? Oh, yes, in their sleep they could! Andy grinned. He liked that Ginny had already involved herself. Some things would never change. "Doxies," Andy said mischievously. Of course, like the Cornish pixies, it would be too hard to come across doxies that quickly. "Fireworks isn't a half bad idea," Andy admitted finally.

"Yes, but it makes sharing chairs decidedly more difficult." Ginny said with a huffy pout. "We need a better system." She said decidedly after a long moment.

"Not this week anyhow." The redhead said with a cheeky grin. "And you act as though I'm a banshee when I'm pissy." She furrowed her brow as though she hadn't a clue of how awful her tantrums could get. Granted, on her end of them, they were always completely justified and never over the top.

"I have some from the shop and a few Dr. Filibusters up in my room." She said helpfully. "Could always owl George for some more if we need." She added after a moment. This prank would be good. Get back at Peeves and annoy the daylights out of Filch all in one go!

"Yeah, true," Andy agreed. When Ginny suggested a new system, Andy turned and looked at her mischievously. "Well, we could have you sit on my shoulders, but I'm not sure Neville would think that was okay. Or maybe Harry... though he'd probably find it funny." Because, really, it would look ridiculous. Neville would probably think it was dangerous.

"You can be if you want to be," Andy answered honestly. He wasn't going to hold that back. In a way, Ginny should be proud of the fact that a boy twice her size wouldn't dare mess with her. "It's not like you go around biting everyone's head off all the time. But when you're mad at someone, I'd rather be out of the way, thanks," he continued.

When Ginny mentioned that she had fireworks, a wide grin spread across Andy's face. "Oh, that's brilliant," he said, quite pleased with how this was playing out. And he'd forgotten how helpful George could be. It's like he lived vicariously through the two on occasions.

"Not a bad plan, but your shoulders don't look very comfortable like." She teased giving his shoulder a prod with her hand. "Boney." Of course she was one to talk. It was only recently that she'd grown into her awkwardly pointy elbows and knobby knees. Quidditch helped a little with that, giving her some muscle definition.

"Well sometimes people rightly deserve it." She said with a shrug. "And I reckon that's what comes from having six older brothers. You learn how to get a point across after a bit of practice." She gave a half-grin.

"What d'you reckon then? Scaring the wits out of him, or using them to fire things at him like an attack of sorts?" She mused, twirling a piece of hair between her fingers as though they were discussing something completely innocent and ordinary.

"Oi, I can't help it," Andy pointed out. "Besides, I eat loads. It hasn't seemed to help much, though." Alas. Perhaps later in life. Andy tried to imagine himself as an old man. At first, he pictured a man who was hobbled over at the waist, but who was as skinny as Andy was today. Yes, that was probably close to what would become of him. Then, for fun, he tried to imagine himself as fat. The image in his head was so unlike himself, that Andy laughed aloud.

Andy grinned back when Ginny talked about having brothers. Of course, there was no way Andy could relate. He was an only child. "I suppose," he agreed. "I still think I got the better deal, though." Actually, Andy didn't, but he wasn't going to admit that out loud. How mental would he sound for wishing to have a sibling?

"Attack," Andy said without any hesitation. This was revenge, after all, not just one of his and Ginny's crazy follies. No, this was the real deal, and Andy wasn't going to be happy with just a small scare.

Ginny gave him a sideways look when he started laughing, not having the ability to see into his mind to know just what was so funny. "Oi, haven't gone barmy on me, have you?" She asked, laughing herself.

"Not a chance, mate. Pains in the arse they might be, they're rightly brill the rest of the time." Of course, they'd never mastered the art of being all rightly brilliant at the same time. She'd have to work on that with them. "Though, at least you don't have anyone being over-bloody-protective of you." She said with a grumble and a roll of her eyes.

"We'll need a plan then. Figure out where he'll be, when, and what'll hurt most to pelt him with and all that rot." Ginny said, switching into business mode.

Andy shook his head. "Could you imagine me old and fat?" he asked, laughing again. See, now it could be funny for both of them. To make the mental image more concrete, any puffed out his cheeks.

"Nope, I haven't," Andy admitted. Even when his parents tried to be over-protective, they still managed to come across to him as aloof and preoccupied. Andy wondered what it was like to have people actually checking in on a child or sibling all the time. Merlin, Andy would even take occasionally. It wasn't going to happen, though. Andy had already though that if he got the chance to be a parent, he'd have more than one kid. And bug the hell out of them. If he got the chance, of course. It was a long ways off.

"Yes. And it wouldn't hurt if it were really loud, too," Andy agreed, matching Ginny's businesslike demeanor. "If Filch comes running to the scene, that's all the better."

Ginny exploded in laughter, nearly falling off the arm of the chair as she did so, which only made her laugh a little more, as she clutched desperately for Andy's arm to save her.

"Lucky thing, you." Ginny teased lightly. "That's why you have me around though. Not quite over protective, but Merlin do I know how to be a pesky sister." And with that she began poking him with no real reason behind it except to be a bother.

"Aces then." The redhead nodded. "What've you got as far as ammo that we can use?" She asked, trying to think about her own inventory in her trunk. Usually she opted for paperclips or something similar. Small, but hard enough to be a nuisance.

Apparently, Ginny found it as ridiculous as Andy did. Yeah, it was bloody unlikely that he'd ever be rotund. He caught Ginny just as she started to capsize, which made the situation even funnier.

When Ginny started poking him, Andy squirmed and tried to summon his best Annoyed Brother Voice. "Stooooop," he whined loudly, poking Ginny in return. There, he could be annoying, too. So there!

Andy thought for a moment. "Well, there's this muggle thing called paintball. Hm," he said. Okay, so it wasn't fireworks, per se, but if they could shoot balls of paint out of the fireworks...

It took a good long moment for Ginny to finally calm down with her giggles, trying to get her breathing under control. Her eyes burned with tears as her stomach cramped just slightly. Dear Merlin. This is why they were best mates. Sometimes you just needed to laugh at something completely bloody absurd. Like the thought of Andy being a wrinkly meatball.

Ginny grinned a bit wickedly and started not poking him, but moving her finger just close enough to his face to be obnoxious. "I'mnottouchingyouI'mnottouchingyouI'mnottouchingyou" She said as though it was all one word.

"Paintball?" Ginny gave him a confused look. Mugglestudies didn't cover these sorts of things, though she couldn't quite understand why not. Honestly. These were important things that she needed to know about!

Andy did the first thing that came to mind. His eyes followed Ginny's finger until he had the timing down just so, and he lunged forward to bite. He wasn't actually going to bite. Well, not hard, anyway. He was just a little slow, though, so he tried again. And then again. Ugh.

Finally, once they were calm again, Andy fell silent for a moment and then nodded. "Yeah, paintball. It's this mental game where you run around shooting people with tiny pellets of paint," he explained. "It's fun, but each time you're hit, it stings like mad."

Ginny laughed as Andy repeatedly failed at biting her finger. "'Come on, Kirke. You can do better than that." She teased, almost taunting him.

"Why have you never taken me to play?" She demanded giving him a vaguely horrified look. "When did you learn about this game? When can we go? I wanna shoot paint at things!!" She was now distracted with her desire to play the brilliant Muggle game and had all but forgotten what they'd been talking about leading up to it in the first place.

Andy shrugged. He'd feel badly if he actually managed to bite Ginny's finger, after all, so it was just as well that he didn't.

"Oh, right," he answered, caught off guard by Ginny's reaction. Andy supposed he should have realised it would go like this. She wasn't a girly girl, was she?

"Well, we can definitely go this summer," he promised, not sure how to answer the question about why he'd never mentioned it before. Perhaps there hadn't been a reason to bring it up? "But for now, any paintballs I can lay my hands on are going to be pelting Peeves soon enough." While Ginny might have gotten distracted, Andy did not.

"We'd better." Ginny said, giving him a warning look before smirking. They'd need to start a list of summer adventures that they had to have. Paintball moving to the top of the list, obviously. "And after I shoot you full of paint then we can get ice cream!" She said cheerfully.

He reminded her of the mission at hand and she returned to business. "Well then, that begs the question. How and where are we getting these paintballs then?" She asked, fingers twirling in the ends of her hair. "I mean, they don't sell them at Hogsmeade so that's bollocks and it's not like we can Owl for them..."
