Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:! 1999 april, ginny weasley, ron weasley

WHO: Ginny Weasley and Ron Weasley
WHAT: Sorting out the mess
WHERE: An empty classroom
WHEN: Friday after dinner
WHY: Because apparently they need to talk about how Ginny is an adult.
RATING: We'll say PG-13 for Language-type warnings.
STATUS: Incomplete

Ginny still hadn't talked to Ron. She knew that they eventually had to talk it out because letting it fester sure as hell wasn't going to help the situation, but she was still a little ticked. Granted, she wasn't nearly as pissed off as she had been last night when it had first happened, but that was pretty much only because Harry had talked her down a little bit. She had a hard time remembering her own name when he was holding her and kissing her and being all sorts of brilliant, let alone remembering what she was angry about.

But after the day she'd had about dealing with younger years whispering and a few of her own classmates acting as though she and Harry were the first people to ever have sex in the castle she found herself getting pushed to her very last nerve again. She'd ducked out of dinner a little early, needing to go for a bit of a walk to clear her head. She was sure that a few deep breaths and getting away from the crowded Hall would let her calm down a bit.

She was walking the path back towards Gryffindor tower, out of habit more than anything. Her feet dragging slightly, wanting to take her time before she reached any sort of destination.

Ron had sat with Lavender during dinner, but when he'd spotted Ginny leaving, he'd decided he might as well take the opportunity to grab her alone to tal. So, he had a few more big bites, swallowed hastily, wiped his mouth on his sleeve, then kissed Lavender goodbye as he got up to go catch up to her. It took him a bit, and one wrong turn, before he spotted her disappearing around a corner. He jogged to catch up, and when he finally got close, he said, "Hey, Gin, wait up a sec."

He slowed to a walk a bit of a distance from her, at least out of hitting range. Just in case.

"Um, hey. So. Can we talk?" Ron asked hesitantly, sticking his hands into his pockets and looking at her somewhat sheepishly. He tried to look as forgiveable as possible.

Ginny paused and turned her head when she heard her name. However, when she saw the familiar mop of redhair she sighed. Crap. Not quite what she'd been planning when she cut out early from dinner. Still, she figured it was inevitable. She waited for him to catch up, running a hand through her hair as she took a deep breath.

"I'm still mad at you." She warned him, though her voice didn't hold as much edge as it might've if she was ready to deck him a good one. Plus, she'd left her wand upstairs in her school bag, so he was relatively safe from harm. "But yeah. We'd better." Because clearly they needed to discuss just how far he was allowed to take this protective big brother shite.

Now that she'd agreed to talk, Ron found himself at a loss for words. He could think of a bunch of ways he shouldn't start the conversation, and most of them started with things like 'you shouldn't be' or 'I had every right' or 'you're too young'. Ron bit back all of the things he wanted to say in defense of his actions.

Instead, he said, "Lav said she's someone's little sister too."

It probably didn't make sense to Ginny, but it had gotten through to Ron. If Lavender's brother had still been alive and had acted the way Ron had been acting, Ron sure as hell wouldn't have liked it much. It didn't mean Ron was suddenly okay with all that had happened, but at least he got that it wasn't his business. It was between Harry and Ginny, and even if Ron didn't like it, even if Ron would rather Harry and Ginny do nothing more than hold hands forever, it really wasn't Ron's place to get involved.

He had to accept that, or Ginny would get pretty sick of his protective big brother role pretty damn fast.

So even though he looked miserable about it, he managed, "I shouldn't have... you know."

"You're bloody right you shouldn't have." Ginny snapped, folding her arms across her chest. Realizing that getting more aggravated while he was apologizing...sort of, wasn't going to do much good. She took a deep breath and pressed her thumb and forefinger to the bridge of her nose, closing her eyes for a moment as she tried to figure out what it was she really wanted to say.

What was it that Harry had said? Oh...right. He thought he was doing the right thing.

"Look, I know you meant well and all. And in your own twisted way that was you caring about me not getting hurt or I don't know but Merlin on a stick, Ron..." She sighed and shook her head. "I'm seventeen years old. Eventually you're going to have to come to bloody terms with that." She very nearly added that she could take care of herself and that she didn't need him looking after her, but she bit her tongue just before the words could slip out. She didn't entirely mean them anyhow, and they would hurt him.

"Gin, come on. I'm trying, yeah?" Ron said. "I told Harry I'll try not to freak out anymore, and I meant it. Just... cut me some slack, please?"

He knew it was dangerous to ask her to give him a break considering Harry had said she was really bloody mad at him, but she was his sister and he had meant well, and he thought she couldn't really have been surprised he'd reacted badly when he found out she and Harry were fooling around. At least he was willing to stop being difficult about it.

Just in case she was inclined to hang onto the grudge, he scrubbed a hand through his hair (which was shorter, if still shaggy, and much more manageable now that Lav had trimmed it) and added, once more for good measure, "Please?"

"I haven't hit you yet yeah? Doesn't that count for something?" She asked after a long moment and a sigh. There was a hint of teasing in her voice, though her body language still read as being irked. She figured that was as close to an apology as she could hope for and while she was still upset that the whole bleeding castle now was privy to her private business, she was decidedly less directing it solely at Ron.

"I was mostly angry last night that you were acting like Harry...I don't know, took advantage or was trying to hurt me or something. You bloody well know him better than that, you big git. I get that you want to look out for me and what all, but Harry and I..." She broke off, dropping her arms from across her chest and letting out a sigh. "I love him, Ron. I do. A lot. And I mean, you probably aren't completely thrilled with the fact that your little sister is going around snogging the face off your best mate, but it's not exactly something I can help." She knew the imagery of the statement would make him squirm and well...he deserved it a bit in her opinion. "He's not going to hurt me."

"I know he's not. I just... I worry about you, all right? I'm supposed to. I'm your brother," Ron said softly. "If it was anyone else but Harry, I would've killed him for sure."

He stepped a bit closer then amd leaned back againt the hallway wall, clearly not worried she was going to hit him anymore. And contrary to what Ginny might think, snogging was something Ron was increasingly comfortable with, if only because he now knew, some of it first hand, just what else there was out there. He winced at the thought and forbade his brain from going down that route.

Ron caught her eyes and kept contact then as he said, "I was just shocked, I guess. I mean, to me, you're still... you know. My kid sister. I forget sometimes that you're... of age and... stuff, even though we've kind of grown up together."

"Yeah, and I'm allowed to get annoyed at you for it. I'm supposed to. I'm your sister." Ginny teased back, letting her arms drop to her sides. "And I wouldn't have...I mean, it's just that with Harry, I'm sure." And oh Godric did she ever not want to go into the details with Ron, but here she was.

Ginny smiled at that last bit. It was kind of hard to stay mad at Ron when he really was just being a good brother. He just needed to be a bit better about how he went about things. "I'm sorry I went ahead and grew up on you. Didn't mean to like." She laughed.
