Summary: When dreams intrude on reality.
Moonlight streamed in through the window of Hazel’s rented room, casting shadows on his frame as he shifted beneath the covers. Blue eyes cracking open, he moved to sit up in bed. He leaned back against the headboard, drawing one knee up to be held loosely by his arms.
Gat noticed the cleric’s movement from where he sat across the room. “Nightmares, Hazel?” he asked.
“No, just thinking,” Hazel answered, tilting his head back to gaze absently at the dimly lit ceiling. For once, he hadn’t woken due to his unpleasant memories taking the form of dreams intruding on his rest.
A wistful smile blossomed on the cleric’s face. It had been the kind of dream that one wants to bring forth into reality, featuring the ill-tempered monk that he’d recently met. But in this dream, Sanzo had been anything but, violet eyes gazing softly into blue before fluttering shut as he leaned in to plant a kiss on full lips. Sanzo’s hand had moved to fist his pale locks, his other arm winding around his waist. Hazel decided that dreams such as this were a welcome change.
He had to admit to being mildly surprised at himself for becoming so drawn to the monk at his first glimpse of the man. The memory of Sanzo’s intense eyes piercing him when they’d first met in the aftermath of their battle with the attacking demons was fresh in his mind. Hazel couldn’t resist seeking the group out in their room later for a proper introduction with the monk. He found himself taken by the fall of blonde locks and the frown that tugged at the corner of his lips. And those exotic eyes that peered out from the man’s mask of unpleasantness.
Hazel sighed. It was a shame that someone so beautiful apparently possessed such a bad disposition. He found that he couldn’t blame the monk much in this, considering who accompanied him along his journey. Spending time with a trio of roguish demons had to have an effect on a man. Hazel smiled to himself. If he had anything to do with it, there would soon be a dramatic improvement in the company that Sanzo kept.
Gat didn’t protest when Hazel rose from the bed and announced their departure. By the fading remnant of a smile on the man’s face, he could tell that the cleric was plotting something new.
