Who: Katee and Haeleah
What: Birthday sweetness
When: Tuesday afternoon
Where: Haeleah’s store, The Sweet Spot
Warnings: Excessive sweetness?
Katee had, through various subtle and cunning tricks (ok, admittedly those tricks extended to looking at Lex’s employee record in the office, but still...) found out that it was Lex’s birthday today. She wasn’t even working today, but that wasn’t a reason to not bring cake into the shop. She’d tried baking it herself first of all, but it...really hadn’t gone well. She knew there was a bakery not too far from The Zeppo, so she headed there, bouncing excitedly. This was going to be awesome.
Haeleah had been baking since before sunrise that morning as she always did on days that she worked. Hell, even on days she didn't work, she was often up before the sun helping out in the bakery. When the little bell jingled, sounding the entrance of a customer, she stopped in her decorating of a cupcake and put on her best smile before glancing towards the door. "Katee!" she called, the grin even more genuine now. Katee was always a bundle of energy and it was hard not to smile around her. "What are you in the mood for today?" she questioned. "Cupcake? Fresh out of the oven?"
“Ooooh!” Katee bounced up to the counter, bangs falling into her eyes. She brushed them out the way irritably.
“Definitely cupcakes! It’s my boss’ birthday, so I want something special. What have you got with chocolate? Lots of chocolate.” She knew that Lex, like most geeks, functioned mostly on caffeine and chocolate. She was happy with anything that had sugar in it - and Haeleah’s cupcakes were absolutely amazing.
Grinning, Haeleah pointed to the batch that she'd just gotten out of the oven. They weren't spoken for yet and she'd only iced them. "I haven't decorated these yet." she told the girl. "They're chocolate with fudgy middles." she smiled. Certainly that'd cover the chocolate needed. "I can put whatever you'd like as far as decorations on the top. A 'Happy Birthday!' or something like that. Can't have a birthday without cupcakes or cake of some form. It's just not the same."
“Ohmygod, that would be perfect!” Katee grinned, leaning on the counter. “Mmmmmm, chooooocolate....” She was sorely tempted to lean over the counter and steal a bite of icing, but she knew that would lead to a smack round the head from Haeleah. Not even chocolate icing was worth that.
“So, other than the perfect cupcakes, what have you been up to?” Katee was feeling gossip-deprived, and it probably showed.
Haeleah smirked at the girl and went ahead and decorated one of the cupcakes with the name 'Katee' on it and offered it to her. "Here." she said. "On the house otherwise you might jump over this counter and ruin the surprise." she chuckled. Once that was taken care of, she got to work on the rest of the cupcakes and shrugged a little. "Nothing much." she told the girl. "Work and rest and things like that. I'm thinking I need to get out more. What have you been up to?"
Katee absolutely beamed, making grabby hands at Haeleah as she passed the cupcake over. “For meee!” She immediately started attacking the cupcake, doing her best not to get too much icing on her face. She was practically making ‘om nom nom’ noises.
“Uhhhhmmmm....” Katee looked up at the ceiling. “Nothing exciting. Ooh oooh! Except that I got a tattoo!” She shrugged out of her hoodie, showing Haeleah her forearm.
Grinning as she looked over at the tattoo, Haeleah shook her head a little. "Sweets for the sweet. It definitely works for you." Haeleah had been through enough needle poking that having a tattoo wasn't something that she cared to think about, let alone do. "Did it hurt?" she asked.
“Sort of?” Katee grinned. “I was totally high on the adrenaline though.” She hadn’t really noticed the pain - adrenaline and Zoey’s weed had seen to that. She wasn’t going to admit to Haeleah that the piercer and tattooist had been getting her high, though. Even if it was the only way of getting her to sit still.
“Aaaand it’s totally worth it.” She grinned, looking down at her tattoo. She was still bouncing about it - that might change the next time she went home to see her grandmother, admittedly.
"Well I think it's awesome and it's perfect for you." If anyone in the world could pull of a tattoo of a lollipop, Katee could. Collecting a box for the finished cupcakes to go in, Haeleah began to decorate each one separately and place them into the box one after the other. "How's work going?" she questioned.
“Pretty good?” Katee made a face. “The lack of cute boys is totally depressing, but there’s nothing I can do about that.” She grinned. “Plus, Lex lets me order the manga and anime stuff now, so we’re gonna have the most awesome selection ever.” For ‘most awesome’, it was more like ‘most cute boy-on-boy action’. But no one else needed to know that, of course...
"Aww." Haeleah said, shaking her head. "Don't feel bad though. The only cute guy I ever see is Gregory and he's gay so completely off the market for me." she laughed. "But it's win-win for me because he's an awesome best friend and a great cuddler." she went on, gently putting another cupcake into the box. "I'll have to come into the shop and let you get me addicted to something or other." she grinned.
“I...have just had the best idea.” Katee actually bounced on the spot, almost clapping her hands with glee. “So, Gregory is gay...and so is my boss. And he’s totally moping over his ex, which is cute but kind of pathetic, and he definitely needs to get out more.” she looked hopefully at Haeleah. “We should set them up! They can be cute and gay together!!!” Of course, things like compatibility and physical attraction were just hypothetical to Katee...
“And Lex could definitely use more hugs.” He was sadly resistant to Katee’s insistence at hugging him given every opportunity, but she was determined to wear him down.
Haeleah couldn't help but grin widely, pausing in her movements at the wickedly evil plan that was rushing through her brain. "You are amazing!" she said with a laugh. "We definitely need to do that. Seriously. Even if it's just hanging out and getting out of the house. Totally must be done. Now we just have to figure out how to get them both to agree to it. Or more likely, how to trick them into agreeing to it."
“Ok...what kind of things is Gregory into?” Katee pulled a bright purple notebook and pink fluffy, sparkly pen out of her bag. She flipped it open to a clean page, divided the page into two, and wrote ‘Gregory’ and ‘Lex’ at the top, one each side of the line.
“Lex is an ubergeek, so anything sci-fi or geek-related...ooh! ooh!” And this time, there was actually bouncing. “Double-bill at the movies! They’re doing The Ring and Ringu!” She scribbled ‘MOVIE DATE’ across both columns.
“You could say you’ll meet Gregory there, I’ll drag Lex along, and then we can run away and watch them be cute at one another!”
"He's a bit of a nerd. He's also Asian. And absolutely adorable because of it, the bastard. But yeah, they'd have nerdy stuff in common I'm sure." Before she could really think about what Gregory might have in common with Lex, Katee had figured out the perfect plan and Haeleah grinned broadly. "You are so cunning!" she smiled. "Perfect. I'll convince Gregory, you try and get Lex and we'll disappear."
Katee flipped her notebook shut with a flourish, holding up a hand for Haeleah to high five.
“This is going to be so awesome.” She grinned. “So, once we disappear, you wanna go see something else instead? Unless you want to stalk them on their date. Which we can totally do, because I am a NINJA. I can totally blend into crowds.” Admittedly, it’d have to be a very specific sort of crowd, considering Katee’s hot pink hair and brightly-coloured wardrobe, but the point still stood. For a short, hyperactive colour addict, Katee was surprisingly adept at winding through crowds - those years of gymnastics had been good for her balance, at least.
"Perhaps we should dress in all black with hoodies and watch from afar." she smirked, liking the thought of Gregory getting out on a date of some sort. The guy was really too hard on himself sometimes and needed a break every once in awhile, damn it. She was going to get him out doing something besides work or school and she planned on doing it soon. Now thanks to Katee, that soon would be this weekend.
“Definitely.” She had some black jeans, somewhere....and it was possible that if she turned one of her hoodies inside out, it’d be plain black. As opposed to covered in fairies, unicorns, ghosts, or cute skulls with bows on, like most of her clothes.
“We can stalk them on their date, and make sure nothing happens to mess it up.” Which, knowing Lex, would probably be himself. Katee was used to watching him crash and burn with guys that came into the store - she had a feeling he was doing it on purpose. She’d be glad if she ever met Zach, mostly because she planned on kicking him in the crotch and pounding his face into the pavement for making Lex look like a kicked puppy every time something reminded him of his ex.
Haeleah was feeling deviously good about this whole plan and couldn't wait to see Gregory's face when the big reveal came about. Putting one last cupcake into the box, she grinned across the counter at Katee. "Well here you go." she said as she closed the box and sat it up on the countertop for the other woman. "Tell your boss happy birthday. And make sure he doesn't chicken out."
“I will!” Katee pulled out her purse, bright pink (of course) and emblazoned with a giant unicorn pooping rainbows. Hey, she never pretended to be classy...She pulled out enough to cover the cupcakes - she’d been here often enough that she pretty much knew the pricelist off by heart.
“I’ll text you to confirm the arrangements,” she promised, waggling her eyebrows. Picking up the box, she waved excitedly, heading out of the store. “See you on Saturday, fellow ninja-matchmaker!” She called out, practically skipping along the street towards The Zeppo.
