No More Bad News
Who: Lucas and Cheyenne
What: Seeking a little comfort
When: 10.16.11 - Sunday Afternoon
Where: Cheyenne's house
Warnings: None
By the time they got to Cheyenne's place, it was mid-afternoon. Lucas was nearly ready to come undone for so many reasons he couldn't even put them all into thought form. Once his bag was put in Cheyenne's room, he flopped down on her bed and let out a sigh. "Please tell me that I've had enough bad news for the rest of forever and nothing bad is ever going to happen to me or my family again?" he all but pleaded as he closed his eyes and covered his face with his hands. It had been a stressful last few days. His heart ached because of the bullshit that Alanna had put him through and now his stomach was churning uncomfortably with guilt over being unable to protect his mother and having to let someone else take that task over for her own safety.
The only shining light about the whole last few weeks was Cheyenne and himself finally being on the same damned page for once in their lives. Small favors. It was the only thing keeping him going at the moment, the only thing keeping him from breaking entirely. "When's your mom coming home?" he asked as he slid his fingers away from his face.. "Is she going to bring out the wedding planning magazines?" It was easier to talk about that and tease Cheyenne than anything else.
Shy really wished she could assure Lucas nothing bad would ever happen again. Except that totally would not happen. She flopped down next to him, letting out a breath. "Sorry, Luc," she admitted. "But I will totally be here for you when it does. I always have. Not changing now."
She giggled at his words. "Nah, I just told your mom that to make her smile," she teased. "Mom's totally thrilled. I think she's living vicariously through us, on account she's never found Mr. Right. Which sucks."
That got a grin from Lucas. "So I'm your 'Mr. Right'?" he asked her. That amused him more than he could say but the smile on his face was likely doing enough speaking for him really. He could forget about the bad things when he had Cheyenne around. She always knew what to say. Or at least got around to saying it just because she talked so much in general. Either way, she made him feel better and that was what mattered the most.
Cheyenne rolled her eyes. "Of course you are, dummy," she scoffed, straddling his hips and leaning down to kiss him. "Duh." What a stupid question. "You're just now figuring this out?" Okay, she was mostly joking. But it was a pretty dumb question, even in jest.
"Maybe I just like hearing you say it," he told her honestly, letting his hands rest against her hips. He returned the kiss and went in for another, lingering with the last one just a bit more. "So, is your mom going to make me sleep on the couch?" he teased, flashing a grin at her as he laid his head back against the pillows.
"Okay," Shy took a deep breath. "You are my Mr. Right. I love you. I have always loved you. You are the perfect guy for me. Okay, stroked your ego enough? Not that I don't mean every word of that. But yeah." She grinned down at him. "As if. Besides, she's not even home half the time. When she's not at work, she's out trying to find Prince Charming. Or at least Flynn Ryder." It was a futile search, in Cheyenne's opinion. Her mom had shitty taste in men. Case in point? Shy's father. The first in a long line of losers.
He grinned. "Yeah, I guess that'll be sufficient, for now." Tucking a bit of her hair behind her ear, he shook his head a little. "Guess you got lucky," he teased. "But I'm no Prince Charming. Or Flynn Ryder for that matter." He shrugged a little. He never thought of himself as anything like a fairytale prince, but it didn't matter. He had Cheyenne and they could be together in the real world where shitty things happened and they got past them together.
"You don't have to be," Cheyenne reminded him. "Like I believe in that shit. I am not my mother. I learned way too early all the fairytales weren't real. And seriously? Me? A princess? Right. I am, at best, the nagging friend in a Disney special who shoves the female lead at the guy she's been pining for. Which is, of course, my main redeeming feature as a plot device. I'll take real life, where I get my own guy who I've been pining for."
"You're close enough to a princess for me," he told her. And she was. She might not have been what he thought he was looking for, but he'd realized by some greater power that she was exactly what he should have had in his sights. Cheyenne was made for him. In every single way. It was why they'd been friends so long, he knew. He wished he'd been smart enough to realize how they'd both felt earlier, but he was thankful he had figured it out before it was too late. "Besides, I think you're more like Astrid on How to train your dragon," he smirked. "Kicking ass and taking names."
Shy laughed. "That's more like it," she agreed. "Although seriously, much more badass." She grinned down at him. "I'm so glad you're staying here. Not that I totally wouldn't have braved the lions' den to come check on you. They don't scare me. I can fly."
"Me too," he told her. "Jason said I could stay but I feel kind of awkward over there. And my owl is like 'Jesus, too many fucking cats, get me out of here!' so that makes me all antsy and paranoid. I know they won't eat me, but still. When there's a nervous owl fluttering around inside me it isn't conducive with being able to relax. And besides, I had to make sure my little birdy was safe," he smiled.
She shook her head, laughing again. "Yeah, doesn't have the same effect on me," she admitted. "It just makes my inner raven go 'Oh hey, four of them can just kill something bigger and tastier. Yay!'. Scavengers like big predators. The pickings are good." She reached down to brush his hair back from his face. "What, because I can't take care of myself? Please. But it's sweet of you to worry."
"I know you can take care of yourself," he told her. "But I like being here to make sure that you're safe anyway," he shrugged. "You might as well get used to it. I've been trying to keep you safe for years now," he admitted, smiling a little at that realization. "It's what I'm supposed to do. Keep my best girls safe and happy."
Aww, he was so sweet. "And I'm glad you're here so I can make sure you're not getting into any trouble that doesn't involve me," she pointed out. "Birds of a feather. And we always have been." Cheyenne giggled and leaned down to kiss Lucas. "Yup. Which means you should call your mom in a bit and see how she's settling in. So she knows you're okay. You know she's gonna worry herself sick if you don't check in every two hours."
He nodded. He'd fully intended to call his mother because the apple certainly hadn't fallen far from that tree. He worried for her just as much as she worried for him and that wasn't likely to change any time soon. Lucas was fairly certain that it wouldn't ever change at all. "I'll call her in a bit. I'm betting she took a nap as soon as she got there. She needed it," he sighed. "I'll give her an hour or two to sleep and then I'll call and check up on her."
"I hope she took a nap," Shy agreed. "Actually a nap sounds pretty good." They hadn't gotten a lot of sleep last night. And the whole day had been stress. The last two days really. Lucas was probably even more worn out than she was. "I love you," she murmured, leaning down to kiss him. "I'm sorry the last couple of days have been so shitty for you."
"I love you too," Lucas told her, returning the kiss and shaking his head a little. "There have been shitty parts about the last couple of days, but I think all in all they turned out pretty good because mom's safe and I've got you. So not so shitty at all," he smiled. "And a nap does sound pretty good right about now," he admitted. Curling up with Cheyenne was just the thing to make him feel better after the long day the pair of them had already had.
Cheyenne sighed and nodded. It had turned out pretty good, even with all the shitty. "Well, it's been way better for me than you. Your mom will be fine. There's probably no place safer in town than where she is right now. Now getting them to give her back? You might be in trouble there. Your mom's pretty awesome."
Lucas sighed a little at the part about getting the lion's to give his mother back. "I don't think they will," he admitted. "Give her back I mean. And it bothers me a little to think about it, but my birthday is in a couple of weeks and I'll be eighteen and things are going to be changing anyway. At least I know that she'll be safe and taken care of there," he shrugged. It was the safest place in town really. His mother wouldn't be in harms way with Jason watching out for her. And as close as he was to his mother, he thought she deserved to be able to live her own life. She'd spent her entire young adulthood being his mother and it wasn't fair. It was about damned time that she got to do something she wanted to do for once.
Shy had just been kidding. "Getting serious that fast, huh?" she asked. Her mother had come close to getting that serious a couple of times. Of course, those guys had been jerks, so she could understand why Lucas was not so thrilled about it. "Ah, I see your plan," she said. "Get your mom all set up so she'll let you fly out of the nest without being all empty nesty and sad. You're so smart." She was teasing, but it sort of was what he was saying. Once Lucas had grown up and moved out, Justice sort of didn't have anything to do. It was good he was shoving her out of the nest first, so she didn't go crazy because he didn't need her all the time anymore.
"She never really dates anyone," he told Cheyenne. "You know that. But this guy," he shrugged a little and let out a sigh. "It's different. I can feel it and I know she can even if she doesn't admit it. She's totally head over heels for him. She makes googly eyes every time he texts or calls or when she's talking about him. She's never done that before. If I don't push her, she's not going to go for it." He knew that as well his mother likely did. She was afraid of taking chances. He couldn't really blame her, but there wasn't much that could be done about the past. The future was what mattered.
"So you're shoving Mama Bird out of the nest for her own good," Shy summed up. "Good for you. She does need it. And you wonder why I call you the best guy in the world?" She leaned down and kiss Lucas again. "You know she's not going far. She'll still be your mom and there when you need her. Worry about you and all that stuff she's always done. No matter what."
"I know that," he sighed. "Still sucks though. I'm not used to having to share her. Part of me doesn't want to, but I know it's selfish and stupid and I want my own life too. With you." And if he wanted to make his own life, he'd have to let his mother have her own as well. That was just the way that things were meant to be, even if it wasn't the easiest thing in the world to accept. "It'll work out. It's not like she's going to Mars or something," he shrugged.
Shy nodded. "It does a little," she admitted. "None of us want to share our parents. Especially when we only have one to start with. His kids probably aren't any more keen on the idea. Since they had to split him three ways already." Which could undo all of Lucas' hard work in letting go, considering. "Neither are you. It isn't like we're gonna fly far to set up our little love nest."
"At least our kids'll have both," he told her, a smile sliding over his lips. "Because now that I've got you, I'm not letting you go without a fight," he smirked. He hoped it wouldn't ever come down to that, but Lucas wasn't about to go down without fighting for the woman he loved.
He made a good point. "God, they will," she said as if that was something that never occurred to her. "Damn, that's kind of awesome." It was hard to believe, since they'd both only had moms and it was like doing something new and revolutionary. Shy smiled at him. "You don't have to fight anybody to keep me, Luc. You might have to fight a few people to keep them from murdering me over my big mouth, but seriously, you're the only person in the world who can put up with me for more than five minutes."
"It is kind of awesome," he agreed. "I promise not to be a douche like either of our dads," he added because he wanted her to know now that he had no intentions of running out when things got hard or when he got bored or for whatever reason that men didn't seem to stick around nowadays. He wanted a family. A real family that wasn't broken or incomplete. While it had worked well for himself and for Cheyenne, he didn't want that for his own children. He wanted better for them. "Yeah, well that's just because I'm more prepared to deal with your awesomeness," he shrugged. "It's a curse."
"Pfft," Shy scoffed. "Like you'd ever do that. You've never been a douche in your life, Luc." She leaned down to kiss him. Now that he brought it up, she wanted that too. A whole complete family. Like people were supposed to have. "Yeah, that is because your awesome almost equals mine," she teased. "It's a terrible curse. One you'll just have to bear for all eternity."
"Mhm," he murmured against her mouth, leaning up for one more kiss. "A curse I will gladly bear," he assured her. "You might be a pain in the ass. Or the ears because you're definitely that too," he grinned. "But I love you. You and your big mouth."
Cheyenne crowed with delight at that. "I'm your pain in the ears now," she reminded him. "Don't worry, I'll make it worth your while though. Because you get the rest of me with the big mouth. And well, the big mouth has other uses too." She gave him a suggestive look.
Lucas laughed and shook his head. "You're a filthy little thing, you know that?" he asked her, grinning at the girl. "No wonder I love you. All you do is get me hot and bothered and then deliver with mind-blowing perfection," he murmured, nipping at her lower lip.
"Hey we promised your mom no sex in her house," she giggled. "My mom didn't say anything about no sex. So yeah. Get naked and I will get you all hot and bothered and make with the mind blowing perfection. Then we can nap."
He couldn't help but smirk at her. "I love it when you get all bossy," he told her honestly. For someone so tiny, she certainly packed a punch. Like dynamite. A firecracker. Yeah, that was definitely Cheyenne. "I guess I must have improved since the first time," he smirked. "I can't keep you off of me," he teased.
Cheyenne laughed again, sitting up to slip her shirt off and toss it aside. "I know," she said. "That's part of the reason I do it." Grabbing Lucas by the front of his shirt, she pulled him up for a demanding kiss. "Oh fuck yes," she said. "You've definitely improved. And I would have been all over you way sooner if I thought you were interested. So now, you're stuck with me wanting to constantly rip all your clothes off and throw you down on my bed. Poor you, huh?"
Lucas leaned up at her urges, returning the kiss just as demandingly. When he finally pulled back, he tugged the shirt off and flung it aside. "Poor me," he agreed with a smirk. "Poor me for having the sexiest girlfriend in the city," he murmured, leaning in for another kiss.
"Yep," she said. "How you suffer so." Shy sunk the nails of one hand into his chest, letting out a little crowing laugh. "God, you're so hot, Luc." She leaned down to kiss him again, shuddering hard.
Lucas smirked up at her, sliding his hands over her thighs and up to her hips, leaning up to meet her for that kiss. "How bout you show me how hot I am?" he murmured. It would be a nice distraction to say the least. Right about now, he could use that distraction.
