Arabella had talked to Kris the previous night and explained to him that she needed some time, and some space. She needed to find herself before she could find herself with someone else. She needed to clear her head, she needed to be able to accept the things that had happened to her and going from one relationship into another just wasn't something she thought could handle in that moment, especially when she wasn't sure if she wanted Kris or was grateful for him rescuing her. She couldn't decipher the difference and spending every single night curled against him, save for one or two, wasn't helping her mind figure out what her true feelings were and where her heart really lay.
She didn't want to hurt him, and she knew she had, but she had to do this for herself. Needless to say, getting up the next morning, after sleeping alone, had bee difficult. So had the day at work. She wasn't used to not having a warm body beside her own. She'd not spent a single night in the last year without Dan beside her, save for the last week with Kris's warmth against her or Sam's when he'd curled up with her the few days that Kris was away.
As she left work and got into her car, locking the doors as soon as she'd looked into the backseat to be sure no one was inside the car waiting to pounce, she reached for her phone and scrolled through her contacts looking for Brian's number. She needed someone to talk to and Brian seemed like the best choice. She listened to the sound of the ring and let out a shaky breath when he'd said hello.
"Hi, Brian," she breathed, clearing her throat a little to avoid any cracking laced into it. "It's Arabella. From the park. I hope I'm not calling at a bad time."
