Justice, it went without saying, was in a much better mood than she’d been in the night before. She was close to whistling a merry tune as she walked down the corridor to Naya’s office, bag of food in hand. She’d stopped by the diner she’d gone to with Rand, picking up steak and fries and coffee for two, hoping that Naya was free to catch up with. Knowing that Jason had gone to see Naya after he’d left her, she was pretty sure her friend already knew that they’d worked things out. Still, she wanted to tell her in person, as well as find out how Naya’s night with Gabe had gone. That question was answered for itself when she stepped into Naya’s office, and got a noseful of NayaandGabe. She grinned, dumping the bag on Naya’s desk on top of her paperwork.
“I told you it’d work,” she said smugly, sitting down opposite her friend.
Naya grinned right back at her friend, despite the flush on her cheeks. "It worked several times actually," she laughed, again feeling like she was right back when it all started early that morning. "But I can be just as smug about you, Justice," she reminded her friend as she set aside her paperwork and tucked the pen she'd been using into the container she always kept on her desk. "Jason was here this morning and he seemed pretty darn happy and you certainly look and sound better this morning than you did last night," she added. She was glad that they'd kissed and made up, literally, because Justice being happy was just one thing that she wanted to be a common event.
"What'd you bring me for lunch, love?" she questioned, eyeing the bags that were before her. "You must have known I was starved," she laughed.
Justice unpacked two styrofoam boxes, handing one to Naya and flipping the lid open on her own.
“Well I didn’t know I was replacing calories you burnt off fucking growly bear man, but yeah.” She grinned, sitting back in her chair, feet on the corner of Naya’s desk, her lunch in her lap. She was delighted that Naya and Gabe had gotten together; her idea of forcing them to spend time together outside the bar worked perfectly. She was grinning smugly, partly because of that, and partly because yeah, she and Jason had gotten their acts together and apologised to each other.
"Oh yes, we definitely burned off calories. Several times," she commented, opening her styrofoam box and stealing a fry from within it. She sighed dreamily at the thought of Gabe and hoped there'd be another lovely little repeat of that morning's events when he got off of work. "Thank you, by the way," she told her friend. "For forcing me into sticking around," she explained. "I owe you one."
“Damn right, you owe me...” Justice replied, beyond amused at the dreamy look in her friend’s eyes. “So, c’mon...” She grabbed a plastic knife and fork out of the bag, cutting into her steak.
“I demand details. Spill. Did you wait on his bed naked? Because personally, I thought that was a fantastic plan.” She grinned at Naya, taking a bite of her steak. Which, as it had been last time, was perfect. Man, she really needed to start going there more often...it wasn’t great news for her wallet or waistline, but she had a feeling Jason’d be more than happy to help her work off the calories.
"No," she admitted, shaking her head. "I wore a tank top and a pair of shorts and I didn't notice that he'd come home. So I'd gotten up to get a drink and I went to get my hair tie from the bathroom and he was kind of sorta well," she shrugged, making a little universal symbol of a man pleasuring himself. "So there was embarrassment and I left him alone and he came and apologized. Then I tackled him."
Justice nearly choked on her mouthful of steak.
“...you walked in on him jerking off?” She grinned. “Well, as seduction strategies go, it’s a new one...” She was pleased it had worked, however they’d ended up together. “And that’s not nearly enough detail. Did he live up to...expectations?” She waggled her eyebrows at Naya. The longer she talked about her and Gabe, the less detail she had to go into about her and Jason.
"Well it helped that he apologized that he was jerking off because of me," she explained. So then when he walked out I just couldn't let him leave, so I tackled him and one thing led to another," she laughed, shaking her head a little. "And yes, he more than surpassed my expectations," she smiled, flushing a little at the thought. "He's absolutely delicious and he's got this growly tone he gets when he's sleepy and or horny and it's," she said, sighing longingly. "God, it's panty melting."
Justice grin got even wider as she poured ketchup over her fries, laughing at Naya.
“So tackling worked. I’m glad.” She eyed her friend for a moment. “Just...don’t rush into things, ok? I know you’ve liked him for months, but you only just slept with the guy.” She knew what Naya could be like, with boyfriends. Much as she was sure Gabe was a good guy, she didn’t want to see her friend getting hurt because she was more invested in the relationship than he was.
“And tell him I’ll break his jaw if he hurts you. And rip off his balls.” She grinned darkly.
Naya bit her bottom lip and sighed a little. It was never easy to hear that she should 'go slow' and 'not rush into things'. Sometimes she had a habit of attaching herself, heart and soul, to anyone that would give her a passing glance. "I'll try," she told Justice. "But I don't know how good that I'll do at not rushing in because I've already practically fallen in love with him before I ever kissed him. How do you slow down from that?"
Justice sighed, picking up a couple of fries and chewing on them, buying herself time to think. She hadn’t realised just how far gone Naya was for Gabe; she’d thought it was a little shallower than that.
“Promise me you’ll at least think before making any big decisions, honey,” she said, voice soft. She’d been there for Naya through too many breakups to want to see it again. Especially when she was so clearly smitten with Gabe. She was starting to wonder if it really had been such a good idea...but no. She couldn’t regret helping to get the two of them together if it had made Naya that happy.
"I'll try," Naya told her friend, brushing her hair back from her face and letting out a long sigh. "I don't know how I let myself get so attached to him, but it's like the moment I kissed him it was all over," she admitted. "He kisses me the way I've ached to be kissed. He makes me feel like I'm the prettiest girl in the universe even when I don't believe that to be true. It's hard not to just fall into that eagerly. Willingly." There was no turning back from this, she knew. It would be too hard, too much. She didn't want to get hurt, but at the same time she didn't want to let a good man go.
Justice couldn’t help but smile a little at Naya’s description of how Gabe made her feel. She wouldn’t stop worrying, but it certainly sounded like at least he was treating her well.
“We’re both pathetic, aren’t we?” She said, grinning. “Mooning over guys like we’re teenagers again.” They were both closer to 40 than 30, by now they really should know better. It was hard not to give in, though. She hadn’t felt like this since she was a teenager, hadn’t wanted someone this much. And she certainly had the libido of a teenager right now...hell, she’d almost dragged Jason into a closet. Thank God he’d been slightly more restrained than she’d wanted to be.
Naya laughed a little. "Extremely pathetic," she agreed with a nod. "So, tell me about you and Jason," she smiled. "How'd everything go besides 'good'?" She wanted all the dishy details herself about her friend's new lover. "You really like him, don't you?"
Justice nodded, biting her lower lip as she looked down at her fries, rather than at her oh-so-perceptive friend.
“Yeah, I really do,” she admitted softly. She laughed softly, shaking her head. “God, here I am giving you advice about not falling for a guy too quickly, when I’m just as bad.” She sighed, looking at Naya and shrugging.
“I think he can make me happy. I feel like a schoolgirl with a crush, I get butterflies every time I think about him...” She couldn’t help but grin a little wickedly. “And the sex is incredible. Like, I may-die-in-the-middle-of-it good.” Of course, talking about sex wasn’t helping how frustrated she was...
“He wants me to meet his kids at the weekend.” She was nervous about that - what if his kids hated her? What if Lucas didn’t get on with them? She knew she couldn’t have a relationship with a guy at the cost of her relationship with her son, and she knew that Jason felt the same. That was the biggest stumbling block, right now.
"That just tells me that he likes you just as much," Naya told her. "Because he was way happier when he came in here this morning and I can tell, I know the guy." Jason was happier with Justice and he was willing to hold onto her and not let her slip away. "He's a good guy, you picked a good one this time, just don't push him away because you're afraid of whatever it is you're afraid of." She knew she was just as bad about pushing people away for being scared herself, but she didn't want to see Justice unhappy.
"If he wants you to meet his kids, he wants to keep you around," she told her friend. "That's a good sign. So don't worry too much on that either, they'll probably love you and even if they don't, that's not the point. Jason likes you and that's what matters. And you like him. And you two are adults and allowed to make your own decisions." She smiled a little and let out a breath as she thought of Gabe wanting her to meet Abbie. Maybe she should listen to her own words. "Gabe has a little girl," she commented. "He wants me to meet her."
Justice’s smile widened when she heard how much happier Jason seemed; knowing she was the reason for it was more than a little intoxicating. She couldn’t promise Naya that she wouldn’t run away, any more than she could promise Jason himself. But she was determined to try, determined not to lose out on any more happiness because of her own insecurities. She’d done enough of that in the past.
“Yeah, I guess,” she murmured. “I get the feeling it’s more so he doesn’t get ripped apart by his daughters for coming home smelling of sex and a woman that’s not part of the pride,” she smiled a little wryly. “I don’t care what the reason is, it’s a good sign. And yeah, it’s definitely a good sign that Gabe wants you to meet his daughter.” She smiled. “I guess he’s just as smitten with you as you are with him, hunh?” She was glad; she wouldn’t have to break the guy’s kneecaps.
Naya laughed. "Yeah, it might have a little to do with that too," she grinned. "I wouldn't want to be in his shoes if he didn't let the girls meet you, but I still think it's also because he likes you and wants you to be part of his life, all of it." She didn't have a huge amount of experience in relationships, but she was pretty sure it wasn't all because of the girls.
"I hope he's just as smitten," she told her. "I'm worried that I'm going to be more into him than he is into me and I'm afraid he can do better and he's surrounded by girls all day throwing their tits in his face and airing their vagina's all over the damn bar," she muttered. "It's going to be hard to not feel like he's settling for me when he could have a barslut."
Justice arched an eyebrow, tempted to reach over the desk and smack Naya around the back of the head.
“Yeah, he has those sluts throwing themselves at him, and he turns them down,” she pointed out. “He’s not interested, he’s been holding out for you. What does that tell you?” Arching an eyebrow, she shook her head.
“You need to listen to your own advice more often, honey. He likes you. A lot. If he’s with you, it’s because he wants to be. And you can’t let your exes break up the two of you by making you paranoid. Assholes.”
Naya sighed. "You're right, I understand that, but it's still hard to break old habits. I mean he's gorgeous and he could have any girl he wanted and he's just content to be with me and I don't know how to get over the shock of that," she explained. "I mean I know I'm not like an ugly girl or anything, but he could do better, I don't pretend to believe otherwise. Just knowing that is hard," she admitted, shaking her head a little and then picking up her fork to take a couple bites of her food. "I'm glad he's with me, I just hope he sticks around."
“Stop that,” Justice told her friend sternly. “You’re gorgeous, you’re funny, you’re smart, and you’ve got a great job. He’s lucky to have you.” Justice had always felt less pretty than Naya; years of trying to raise a kid had aged her more than Naya. She hated that her friend felt so insecure about herself, hated that guys had made her feel like she was worthless because she wasn’t stick thin. Justice would have killed for breasts like Naya’s, and had told her so repeatedly.
She forced a little smile at all the compliments. Years of taking abuse with a smile hadn't made compliments any easier to accept. "Thanks," she said with a little shrug. "Guess it's just gonna take awhile for me to feel like all that's true," she sighed. "I just want to be happy in the moment and he makes me happy. I haven't felt this... giddy in... well, ever."
“Good,” Justice smiled a little. “Enjoy the giddy. Make the most of it. Revel in it, please.” She sighed. “God knows I’m not going to, I think it’s too much to hope for that any of our kids let me and Jason be giddy before they do something to piss one or both of us off...” She was dreading that, really. She could only hope that Alanna and Lucas were ok with being around a bunch of lionesses. If not, this was going to be over pretty quickly.
Naya chuckled. "They're teenagers. It's all drama and bullshit and the world is always careening towards the sun or the zombie apocalypse is on the horizon," she reminded her friend. "Take the teenagers with a grain of salt and don't let them be the reason you and Jason don't work out. Lucas is growing up, Jason's daughters are too. You and him are going to be the ones that have to like one another," she shrugged. "And if the sex is good enough to make you glow and look like you've gotten your ass beat all at the same time, I'd say hotlips is a keeper."
Justice chuckled, her laugh sounding utterly filthy. “Really? Hotlips? That’s the nickname we’re going with?” She grinned. It could be worse, she supposed. “And yeah, the sex is definitely good enough. I mean, I know I don’t have that much to compare it to...” And Naya knew that better than anyone, having been the one Justice complained to all these years. “But even then, Jesus, he’s incredible.” And this really wasn’t helping her not be frustrated.
“God, roll on Saturday night. I’m gonna go insane at this rate.”
"Well it was either that or buns of steel. Really either is fitting," she laughed. Naya had a plethora of nicknames for Jason. "Mufasa was a fun one. I think I just like tormenting him a little here and there," she admitted with a wide smile. "Maybe you two shouldn't wait til Saturday, you might burst. Invest in a vibrator, lovey. And memories."
“I already have a vibrator,” Justice pointed out. “More than one, in fact. I think you even bought one of ‘em for me.” She grinned. She was pretty sure the pink sparkly one had been Naya’s idea...possibly because it made vibrators less ‘scary’, which had been Justice’s initial problem with them, imagining some sort of terrifyingly giant plastic penis vibrating across the bed. “And feel free to torment Jason all you want. I know I do.”
Naya laughed a little. "Yeah, I think I did," she grinned. She was hoping she wouldn't really have a need for a vibrator from that point on. Honestly she hoped that neither one of them required the battery powered orgasm creators, but she wasn't about to toss hers out in the garbage, thank you very much. Not just yet at least. "Oh, I intend to," Naya assured her as she took a few more bites of her food. "Thanks for bringing lunch by," she smiled. "I think I needed the company and conversation even more than the food."
“Well, if you will insist on hanging around dead guys,” Justice joked, smiling as she scrunched up the remains of her lunch, shoving it back into the bag. “No problem. I thought we could both use a break. Plus, I had to find out how my incredibly brilliant plan to get you and Gabe together worked, didn’t I?” She winked, letting her feet slide off the corner of Naya’s desk, standing slowly.
“I should let you get back to work. Call me later, if you get bored waiting around for loverboy.” She winked at Naya, tossing her garbage into the trashcan.
"Will do," Naya promised. "Thanks again. And good luck with Mr. Tight Ass. Every time he makes you mad, just remember those delicious ass cheeks," she laughed.
“Don’t,” Justice groaned, mock-complaining. “Like I’m not having enough trouble concentrating today...” She shook her head. “Good luck with Mr Growly Bear, too.” Grinning, she headed out of Naya’s office, a little bit more of a bounce in her step. Now, she just had to get through the rest of the day...
