Who: Katee and Haeleah
What: Plans gone awry.
When: Thursday morning
Where: The Sweet Spot
Warning: None
Katee was high as a kite when she woke up on Thursday morning. She had a date. A real live date, with a real live boy. She bounced her way through her morning routine, showering and pinning up her hair into lots of little buns while it was still wet. It looked kind of funky, but wierd, but the main point was that tonight she’d have curls.
Singing along with the radio, she gathered her books for school, trying to work out if she had enough time to grab a cupcake on the way. She needed to speak to Haeleah anyway - their Plan for Gregory and Lex had been completely destroyed thanks to Lex’s ex-boyfriend reappearing, but at least it seemed like Lex had come up with something to make up for it.
Still humming softly to herself, she headed for the Sweet Spot, grinning brightly as she skipped through the door.
“Morning!” she called out, waving.
Haeleah hadn't gotten the chance to try and convince Gregory to go out to a movie just yet. The bakery had been pretty busy with a few orders for birthday parties and a wedding so she'd just been unable to get around to it. She actually intended to talk to her friend later that night if she could finagle a moment's ease. But that was yet to be seen as she manned the front counter and iced a couple more cupcakes for the display.
She smiled at the sound of Katee's voice, her eyes flicking to the girl over the countertop. "Hey munchkin!" she said to her. "What can I get you?" she questioned.
“Chocolate! Or coffee!” Katee bounced. “I skipped breakfast so I could come see my favourite baker chick.” She grinned, leaning on the counter. “Sooooooooo guess who has a date tonight with a tall, handsome, gorgeous accountant?” She bounced some more, barely able to contain her excitement.
Grinning at the other girl, she reached into the display case and plucked out a tiramisu cupcake. Putting it on a little plate and garnishing it with chocolate flakes, she handed it to the girl. "How about a bit of both?" she said with a grin. Of course then Katee was talking about a date with some accountant and Haeleah grinned.
"A gorgeous accountant? I thought they were all short, old and bald. With glasses. Sure he's an accountant?" she teased. "Where'd you meet this accountant and does he have a name?" she asked, obviously curious.
“Ooooh!” Katee took the plate, carefully peeling the paper case down, all the way around the cake, before taking the coffee bean of the top and popping it into her mouth.
“He’s friends with Lex. His name’s Ace, and he’s Native American, and ohmygod, Haeleah, he’s soooo beautiful.” She sighed. “Like, not even real.” She grinned again, shifting from foot to foot as she lifted the cake, taking a bite out of the side of it.
“This is amazing!” She said, the words muffled by her mouthful of cake.
Haeleah couldn't help but grin broadly at Katee. She was always the excitable sort, but she seemed to be really looking forward to this date of hers with this accountant guy. "Good for you!" she commended. It was about time that Katee find a guy to hang around with, someone that would find her just as entertaining as Haeleah always did. "Aren't they?" she commented about the cake. "Tiramisu in the form of a cupcake. One of my favorites."
“I can see why!” Katee said, wiping a smear of icing off the corner of her mouth. “So yeah, Ace came in to see Lex yesterday, but Lex was..uh...” she blushed. “Busy...so I kept him company. Oh!” She jumped, train of thought interrupted.
“That was the other reason I came in! Sad news!” She made a comically sad face, lips downturned, lower lip sticking out. “Lex’s ex-boyfriend showed up, and now they’re going to go to the double-bill on Saturday together. So we can’t set him up with Gregory!”
Haeleah's brows went up a little at that news. "Oh wow." she commented. "Well I'm glad that I didn't tell Gregory about this weekend just yet. Not that I was going to tell him my true, evil plot, but still. Sadface. That's no fun. I thought the ex was a tool." Boo on this guy showing up and ruining all their matchmaking fun.
“He was?” Katee wasn’t quite clear on that point. “Or he made Lex think he was, only he wasn’t...I don’t know.” She shrugged. “So I had to tell Lex our awesome plan, because he wanted to know why I was all pouty-faced. Aaaaaand...” she paused for effect, “he said that he thinks he’s already met Gregory, and he’ll take him to some art gallery thingy this weekend, but only as friends.” It wasn’t ideal, but it still got both of them out the house, at least.
“It’s not great, but they could use more friends, right? And we will find someone for Gregory.” She nodded firmly.
"Boys are so confusing." she said, shaking her head a little. Gregory could be confusing too so she completely understood. "He has? Interesting. I plan on talking to him tonight so I can see if he thinks he has. Now I'm curious how he already knows the guy." she admitted. Haeleah couldn't help that she was nosy. And yes, perhaps it wasn't ideal, but Gregory should get out for a little while, even if just with a friend.
"Yeah." she agreed. "Not great, but more friends is awesome. And of course we will. He's adorable and everyone will love him. Maybe going to this gallery will get him some cute artsy boys." she smiled.
“Exactly!” Katee was hoping that they could find Gregory a hot guy (not as hot as Ace, maybe, but still hot). “I think he said he met him when he was running?” Katee found it wierd to think of Lex outside of work, much as she had incontrovertible proof that he had a life (and sex!) beyond The Zeppo.
“So yeah, I think he said Sunday evening, he’s got tickets to a gallery thingy that one of my coworkers is involved with.”
"Yeah, Gregory likes to run, so it probably was him. Weird. Small world, right?" she laughed. "That's sweet though that he offered to take Gregory out anyways as friends. Seems like a pretty nice guy." Not many people would make the effort after a failed blind date to try and be friends.
Katee nodded, polishing off the rest of the cake.
“Yeah, he’s a really sweet guy,” she assured Haeleah, smiling. “It’s a shame that his ex turned up, but I think they’ll be good friends, anyway.” Anything that stopped Lex from moping - though now he had Zack back, it seemed like he wouldn’t be moping anyway.
“Right! I should get going. I’ve got class.” She made a face; clearly talking to Haeleah all day was far preferable to going to college. But she had to pass the class, and that meant paying attention.
“Blehhhhhh.” Was what Katee thought of that.
"Well maybe you and me can go to the movies instead." she offered up. "Just give me a call and lemme know when you've got a free minute. We need a girl's night." she smiled. It was a nice consolation prize she figured. They'd get to have fun regardless. "Get to class before they flunk you." she teased.
“Definitely.” Katee nodded. “Girls night. I’m so up for that.” She bounced, and grinned again. “Aaaand I’ll totally have gossip from my date! Which is tonight!” She let out a squeak, part nerves and part excitement. “Wish me luuuuck!” Heading for the door, she bounced through it, sticking her head back into the shop to blow Haeleah a kiss.
“Mwah! Bye sweetheart!” And she was gone.
