The twins argue. [Jun. 12th, 2008|03:57 am]

"You can't do this!" she yelled after her sister.

"I can do what I want," Geneva replied, beyond irritated that Jenn would have the audacity to tell her what to do.

"That's just the thing," her twin yelled. "You think you can do whatever you want, but you might just fall over into another coma. They haven't figured out what's wrong with you."

"And they're not going to," Geneva said tartly. "I'm not going to hang around here and have you treating me like a baby. I've had it with you Jenn and I'm heading out to the west coast to chill for a few days."

Jenn frowned. "Do you think it's safe to fly in your condition?"

"And what condition is that?" Geneva had already packed a bag and bought an airplane ticket. "Whatever happened just happened and it probably won't happen again. I'm fine. I'm going." She didn't waste any more time on words and slammed her way out of the apartment, leaving her sister behind, shell shocked and frustrated beyond belief.

The sky was dark in the city and the thunder had started out of nowhere. Missy was rushing home from work. She had left her wallet on her desk, thus having no money to pay for a cab. The walk home had started out okay but then the rain started coming down in sheets.

She spotted a coffee shop and started running towards it. It seemed that a lot of people had the same idea and they all rushed to the door at the same time. Missy managed to weasel her way into the crowd without colliding with anyone. She seemed to be happy with herself because of that. She was often the klutz that collided into anyone and anything possible.

Taking a deep breath, running was something she hadn't done too often so even a quick dash took her breath away. She shivered, the dampness of her hair and clothes not meshing well with the shops air conditioning. She turned to grab a couple of napkins from the little station set up with straws, sugar and napkins and that is when she stumbled on the foot of a chair and collided with someone.

Who: Jasper & Janeane
When: Tuesday Night
Where: Burnham
What: Drinking & Dancing

Jasper stood in front of the building, hands in his pockets as he looked around the street. He was people-watching because he knew that he was a bit early for his date with Janeane. He didn't mind, though; he enjoyed watching people.

Of course he was pretty excited about their date. He loved dancing, but then again he knew that no matter what they decided to do they'd have a great time. It was pretty hard to not have fun around Janeane, or at least that was Jasper's experience so far.

Glancing at his watch, he shoved his hand back into his pocket and tried to keep from bouncing on the sidewalk with excitement.

Who: Beverly & Leif
When: Late Tuesday/Early Wednesday
Where: Leif's Bed
What: Comforting conversation

Hours after she had gone to bed Beverly woke with a start. The sheets were tangled around her long limbs, but it took her less than five seconds to kick them off onto the floor. She'd been having nightmares for about a week now, all about the car wreck that she had gotten into. It wasn't just that, though; she kept seeing flashes of some large building and an even larger beast attacking her.

After washing her face and laying in bed for another thirty minutes, staring at the ceiling, she finally got up and quietly padded across the apartment. Biting on her lower lip, she quietly slid into Leif's room and darted over to his bed before climbing in beside him. "Leif?" She whispered his name and reached out to nudge his shoulder. "Leif, wake up." She was still whispering, hoping he wouldn't be too upset with her for waking him.

Kelli was sitting at the computer in the bedroom. It was situated on the desk, screen towards the bed. She was sitting in a chair, leaning back. She'd been bored for most of the past three hours. She grinned when a certain screen name popped up on her contacts list. She clicked the name and sent her message.

xGlitrGalxyXoX: Hiya. I was wondering when you were going to come back online.

(Thread) Morning in the Park : Open [Mar. 10th, 2008|09:11 am]

[Tags|]

Jarrod Prespind was outside that day, sitting on a bench in the park, listening to the sounds of the people around him. It was quite warm out, despite the coldness brought along by the near constant wind. There was a cup of half drunken coffee sitting at his side, just within reach. Sitting under the bench, at his feet, was a large black Labrador retriever named Disco.

Across the park there was a group of children passing through on their way to school. The group was loud and the kids laughed, shouted and ran around the path leading to the gate opposite the one they came in. Jarrod turned towards the group and wondered how many of them there actually were. It sounded like a lot of kids but for all he knew they were just particularly loud and obnoxious.

One of the kids stopped in his tracks and threw a stick at Disco's head. The dog didn't budge from his spot as the little tree branch bounced off his head and fell to the ground at Jarrod's feet. Another one of the kids started to laugh and searched for another stick to throw at the 'big dumb dog.'

Unfortunately, Jarrod had no idea any of this was going on.

The dog barked once, a sound of warning, as another stick collided with his head. He still didn't move as he was not yet commanded to do so but he had barked to warn the kids to stop what they were doing. The kids didn't and another stick came flying towards the dog, instead hit Jarrod in the leg. Ouch. the man thought.

Disco barked again and Jarrod sat forward, reaching for the dog and scratching behind his ear. "What's wrong?" he asked to the dog. He moved his hand from the back of the dog's head to his own leg, rubbing his shin where the stick had hit him. He could hear the kids laughing and turned towards their direction. "You're not funny." he said to them. "Stop throwing things."

Leaning back into his spot on the bench, Jarrod knocked over his coffee. Whatever was left inside spilled across the bench, soaking the left leg of his pants and dripping down over the side of the bench onto Disco's head.

The kids across the park were laughing wildly. Jarrod wanted to shout at them to fuck off but he was a better guy than that. He kept quiet and struggled to clean himself and the bench up. He wasn't worried about the dog, as he didn't realize he had been covered in coffee as well. This wasn't the first time this had happened and Jarrod wondered if this was the line, the final straw. Maybe he'd had enough of this. He would clean up, head home and never leave his apartment again. He forced a little laugh at the thought, a little laugh he kept mainly to himself. He'd played this whole scene in his head for the past twenty four years. The scene where he would lock himself away and not have to deal with the world.

He turned his head up from the mess when he heard the sound of someone approaching him. He wasn't sure who it was and only hoped it wasn't one of the kids coming over to cause more trouble for him.

(Thread) Friday, Anya and Collin's Apartment (Anya/Lana/Collin/JD) [Mar. 7th, 2008|03:05 am]
subvertedfreaks
[Tags|]

Holed up in bed, Anya was snuggled up in her blankets and gazing forlornly at the small tv sitting in the corner of the bedroom she shared with Collin. That was one of the nice things about moving to the city; she had an excuse to move in with her boyfriend and take their relationship to that next level.

So far it was going well. There were a few squabbles over decor and how they'd work out a babysitting schedule for Collin's son, JD (which turned out not to be such a big issue since Anya's sister Svetlana was more than happy to babysit JD and babble at him in Russian, which he was already picking up on).

The only real setback at the moment was Anya's terrible cold, which had her locked in bed for the past three days. Lana came over every day after school to check in on her sister and watch over JD (whom Anya had been caring for in the daytime while Collin was out, since she was home sick from work; she didn't see the point of calling for a babysitter when she was home, even if she didn't feel well). At the moment, Lana was humming in the kitchen while making some homemade soup. The girl had a surprising talent for cooking (furthered by her deep love of the cooking channel). JD was probably pestering her, which made Anya smile somewhat wickedly.

Anya was waiting in bed, flicking through the channels and waiting for Collin to come home.

(Thread) Early Wednesday Morning [Open to Kim] [Feb. 27th, 2008|01:36 am]

all_these_fools
The time was just past one in the morning and Dennis was downstairs sitting on the couch, daughter laying in his arms, fast asleep. The apartment was quiet aside from the low hum of the television set and the mumbled voices of people talking, as the volume was set so low. Everyone was sleeping at this point and the quiet was almost eerie.

Mariko had woken from sleep about forty minutes earlier and Dennis had been the one to get up with her. He knew that Kim had to work in the morning and let her sleep while he went to see why their daughter woke up crying.

Deciding that maybe she was hungry he went downstairs to warm up a bottle. Holding her in his arms, she seemed to quiet down so Dennis paced the kitchen while he waited for the bottle to heat. He took the baby into the living room and sat down on the couch with her. He flipped idly through the channels, late enough that nothing was on, as he held the bottle. Even after the bottle was done and Mariko was burped, Dennis sat up with her until she fell asleep. He sat there with the Tv still on and he heard a sound behind him.

Dennis looked back, hearing a creaking sound that might have been the bottom step and wondered what had made the sound. He didn't want to call out to see who or what it was, worried his voice might wake the baby again. It was too dark he couldn't see.

Alex Robyns had not spent a lot of time relaxing in the past two years. Most of the time was spent with a camera strapped around her neck, one arm carrying her son Oliver, running around the city trying to get the best and most innovative pictures she could get while still making a living off wedding and graduation photos. Today was different though. She wasn't going to go looking for interesting things to photograph and she didn't have any events to photograph. She sat in a small cafe with Oliver on her lap, sipping on her coffee thoughfully as her camera sat on the small table in front of her. She was always prepared to take a good picture if something caught her eye.

Tonight was Willow's fathers big birthday party and Henri knew that she would want Henri to attend it with her. Finally finding her name in the phonebook he pressed the 'call' button and waited for her to answer.

"What?" She said abruptly after three rings.

[Thread] Late Saturday Afternoon, Pleasantview Asylum (Open) [Feb. 23rd, 2008|05:43 pm]
cityofstrangers
It was well after staff lunch break, though Celia found herself in the break room like every other day. She insisted on eating later than everyone else so that she could be alone. Her lunch break was her time and she liked to spend these forty-five minutes alone.

Including her time for lunch and the drive to and from work came to about an hour. Each day she only had one single hour to think only of herself and for that very reason is why she liked to have her lunch break alone; because she more then often blatted her eyes out for the entire forty-five minutes.

She still had about thirty minutes left to her break when she was already done with the hysterics. Composing herself and taking a few deep breaths, she looked down at her meal. I might actually get to finish my lunch for once, she thought to herself. About to take the first bite is when she heard it, the door, swing open quickly.

It was late in the night and Henri couldn't get to sleep. Annoyed by his inability to do even the most simple thing a human being can do, he kicked off the blankets abruptly. He swung his legs off the side of the bed and stood up on the cold, wooden floor. As he stood there for a moment Henri glared at his clock that proudly read 2:42 in large, red and unusually bright font.

(Thread) Open! If anyone wants to reply. It's cool if not. [Feb. 20th, 2008|02:38 pm]

The cafe was far from empty but the morning rush for coffee was hours behind them and the mid-day lunch break rush had just died down.

Oliver and Stephen were seated in two chairs at the back of the cafe. The chairs were squishy and soft. They had high backs and big padded comfortable arm rests. They were next to one another but each was turned slightly towards the other. The place was quiet, only soft music was playing over the radio and there was low chatter of some friends sharing some coffee and cake at a nearby table.

Stephen was sipping at an iced tea flavored with blueberries and honey. He was quietly sitting there making observations of his surroundings. His eyes would occasionally glance to his boyfriend in the next seat but he wouldn't dare get himself caught staring. He would look away after only moments. He reached his hand up his fingers brushed a narrow black collar that was fastened around his neck. Without touching the clasp, he made attempts to adjust it so it fit more comfortably against his skin. It was fitted a little too tightly. It always fit a little to tightly, he thought with a little frown.

Oliver was flipping through the pages of an outdated magazine, something someone must have left behind. There were articles about art and about music and it held his interest for the time being. He could feel Stephen's eyes on him from time to time but he never once looked up from the pages he was reading. Sitting on the small table beside him was a cup of decaffeinated green tea with a dash of soy milk.

The cafe door swung open and the movement of someone walking through the door caused Stephen to look across the room at them. He stared a little longer than he meant to.

Oliver looked up instantly and he cleared his throat, gazing at Stephen harshly.

(Thread) Sunday Shopping Spree At The City Mall... Open! [Feb. 17th, 2008|06:10 am]

all_these_fools
[Tags|]

It was just past noon on Sunday and Jamey Randal (Randy as he preferred to be called) found himself standing in the middle of the mall. He was dead center of the walkway that led from the bigger food court to the main shopping area. People were passing by him heading in all directions. The mall wasn't too crowded but there were enough people in there it looked full.

Randy had a white shopping bag hanging off of one arm and a raspberry green tea smoothie in the hand of his opposite arm. His head was pounding and he was hoping the caffeine from the tea part of the smoothie would help the medicine he took before coming shopping to kick in. So far, he'd had no such luck. I'm not drinking anymore, he thought as he blamed the pounding head on a hangover.

He stood with his left hip jutting out to the side, the hand of the arm holding his shopping bag was resting on the hip. He was dressed in impossibly tight jeans that were black in color and wore a size-too-small purple polo-style shirt with silver trim around the collar. Over the shirt was a dark grey vest but it was hidden under a tight fitting black hoodie. His shoes were simple black and white checkered slip on pair of sneakers and his belt was studded with a rainbow of little metal pyramids and a custom buckle with his nickname spelled out in pink colored stones. Around his neck, Randy usually wore a box chain, white gold with a crucifix on it. As he brought his hand up to itch a scratch on the side of his neck, he noticed that the chain was no longer there. It was definitely there when he left to come shopping. He'd lost it somewhere inside the mall. Or out in the parking garage, he thought.

"Fucking crap balls." he muttered to himself. It was quite upsetting to know he lost his most prized possession. It was a gift from his mother and he'd had it since he was sixteen. He looked around him, eyes fixed to the tan colored tiles that lined the floor. He was hoping that maybe the necklace had just fallen off and he'd be able to bend over to pick it up. No such luck though. He sighed heavily and was about ready to cry. He could feel the tears pricking the backs of his eyeballs and his bottom lip trembled as he held back a sob.

I'll find it. He told himself, though he knew it was likely a hopeless cause.

He took a couple steps forward before doing a 180. He looked back to the direction he had been coming from and decided that it was probably best he retrace his steps to find the necklace before someone else did. He reached into his back pocket to pull his phone out to check the time. The jeans were so tight his phone stuck a moment but he finally got it out, flipping the screen out to display the digital clock in the upper corner.

He'd only been at the mall an hour, and he hoped that was little enough time to up his chances in finding his lost necklace.

Click. Click. Click.

That was the peculiar sound coming from under the table where Akane sat.

To anyone else it might have been highly annoying, but for Akane it was relaxing. A comforting, stable noise that she came to rely on. It was the click of her lighter, flicking it open an closed. It was the one she'd had in her collection longest, the only one that hadn't been confiscated from her teenaged years.

She clicked it now and pretended to concentrate on the plate of food in front of her. She couldn't quite bring herself to eat yet.
