She lies to the classroom as she tries to cover every bruise. Katie was running. She didn't know where she was going and she didn't know exactly what she was running from but she knew that she was scared. Blood was oozing from her nose; she thought maybe her ring had come between sheltering her face from Him. She had intercepted a fight that had left her mother running to the bathroom and locking the door, forgetting to worry about her eldest daughter who were still in the cross fire. She's suffered a blow to the eye, this time the right one, leaving one faded mark on her left, and a fresh one on her right. She suspected she looked right out horrendous. Her stomach ached. She thought she'd might have a bruise there, but she wasn't sure. It could be angst. Was He following her? She kept on running, until her malnurished body no longer could hold up the speed. She jogged. She walked. She didn't stop until she were on the outskirts of town. She didn't know what to do with herself. Everything ached, from the run, from the fight. She was glad that her siblings hadn't seen it. He never hit them... She had never reflected on that fact before; they were his biological children. She was not. She was just somebody to use up, somebody not worth anything. Her face hurt. She didn't even hate; she was too tired. She could feel the tears streaming down her face. She couldn't go home, not now, He might hurt her even worse.
She looked around. It was a creepy place she realized. Not that she wasn't used to them, but right now she was scared. Her eyes landed on a payphone. Her cell was at home, in her room. Home. She didn't know who to call. Finally she dialled her one stabile 800 number and the one number she could remember. Woody's. She followed the instructions of the operator as she made the Collect Call to his cellphone and waited. Blood and snot mixed as she sobbed violently. Everything hurt.
She listened to the signals, one two three, and didn't even reflect upon the fact that they were broken up. All she wanted was for somebody to come and get her.
