Who: April Bailey
Where: April's room
When: 11 December, 1899
What: April prepares for Christmas.

Deck the halls with boughs of holly. April sang softly to herself. She quietly lit the candle that stood in her window frame, and blew out the match.

'Tis the season to be jolly. She lined the top of her doorway with small bells that would ring as it opened and closed.

Don we now our gay apparel. She knew she was planning to go home for the holiday, but couldn't help but want a little cheer here at school until then.

Troll the ancient Yuletide carol. The decorations weren't for anyone but herself. She rarely let anyone into her room, preferring to meet elsewhere. This was her space, the only one she could claim for herself.

See the blazing Yule before us. Carolling was one of her favorite parts of the holiday. She'd never been the greatest singer, never had solos in her church choir. Still, it didn't seem Christmas without the singing.

Strike the harp and join the chorus. She missed the Nativity play she'd always taken part in as a child. At first an angel, then a shepherd, and one year she'd even played Mary herself. She was usually on the shy side, but this was different. It helped that she never had any lines.

Follow me in merry measure. When she got home, she'd take her little brothers Christmas shopping. It was their tradition. She hoped her mother hadn't stepped into that role yet; she always liked taking John and Anthony into the shops.

While I tell of Yuletide treasure. Christmas Eve would be the night for real celebration. They'd put up their tree and the other greenery; April's mother was superstitious and refused to decorate before that night. After the decorations, they'd go to mass. When they came home, April and her brothers would give their gifts to their parents; the rest would wait until morning.

April loved Christmas. It was one of her favorite times of the year. When she was sure her room was set to her satisfaction, she locked the door and headed down to the kitchen to warm some milk and chocolate.
