"Oh my god, that's complete bullshi-" Before the (obviously) angry New York High School could complete her less than PG response to her opposing debaters, the hand of one of her debate team members slapped itself over her mouth. It remained planted there while Nic rolled her dark eyes openly and inhaled dramatically through her nose. The members of the opposing debate team looked more than just a little rattled. But then again, they had been on edge since the match began, as they had been one of the teams to watch NYHS go head-to-head with Granada High School. It was in that match that Nic threatened to jump across the table and beat the hell out one of the opposing members...and she would have done just that (as a matter of fact, she already had one foot up on the table, fully prepared to launch herself at her adversaries) if that same member of her team hadn't wrapped his arms around her middle, pulling her back. Not wanting to suffer the same fate as the Gradana High team, Nic's opponents instead walked on egg shells. There was just that one little blonde known-it-all who didn't know how to keep her mouth shut; and Nic felt it was her personal duty to show her how it was done. Furrowing her brows angrily, her team member finally felt that Nicole could control herself once more and dropped his hand from her mouth. She was free to speak again, but after being silenced, Nic knew that it wouldn't be in the best interest of her team if she were to open her mouth and speak again. So, she stood there...mouth tightly shut while shaking her head, rolling her eyes, and giving a little sarcastic laugh every now and then. It was all she could do. A little under five minutes later, the debate match was over, and despite the little matter of her (almost) slip-up, NYHS had another victory under their belts. After shaking hands with the opposing team (Nic admittedly squeezing the blonde girl's hand a bit too hard), the junior drifted off on her own; leaving the rest of her team to reconvene and decide on a new strategy...and they had time: Nic wouldn't have to rejoin her team for another hour or so, and until then, she was essentially free. Picking out a particularly empty spot (she wasn't really in the mood to be bothered by anyone; she was still a little grumpy from the previous round and wasn't sure what she would do if someone did decide to bother her), Nic slumped into a seated position. Pulling her purse into her lap lazily, she undid the zipper and plunged her hand inside, fishing around within the contents; trying to find the bag of snacks that she had packed earlier that day to tide her over. After finally locating the clear, plastic bag filled with cookies and small cakes, Nic could finally start relaxing. But what fun was enjoying sweets all alone? Even if she wanted to be all alone, that wasn't really what she wanted...right? Nic didn't necessarily like feeling like a loner, eating her snacks alone like someone with a contagious disease. Sure, she could return to her team, but that would mean that she would have to share all of her cooking with them...which would leave essentially nothing for her. Besides, she didn't want to hang out with a group of people--she just wanted a single person. But who? It was only after she took a bite out of a chocolate chip cookie than did Lukas pop into her head. Of course! This was a debate tournament! Naturally, her York Prep friend would be there! Plus, he seemed to be a fan of her cooking...at least as far as she could tell. He seemed to enjoy it, anyway, and if he hated it, Lukas was the sort of person who would tell her her cooking sucked. Not only that, but catching up with Lukas would be nice--she hadn't seen him in a few days, and what better place than to catch up with him than at the debate tournament while sharing cookies and cakes? It was perfect. So, with her new-found freedom and the idea of finding Lukas planted firmly into her brain, Nic set off about the gymnasium. A cursory glance around the place proved unsuccessful...in fact, she didn't recognize anyone that she knew. There were still several debates going on, but none of them appeared to be between York Prep...so after a while, Nicole quickly figured out that York Prep wasn't in a match against anyone. Now the problem would be locating the team. Locate the team, and she would locate Lukas...hopefully. Wandering through the maze of rounds and school teams huddled together, Nic continued chewing slowly on her cookie, while clutching the plastic bag close to her; all the while her dark eyes continued to quickly dart over her surroundings, searching for Lukas. |
