Despite the fact that all these attacks had been going on in terribly crowded, public places, no one seemed to be phased...at least not at the game. Whether it was the morale boost that the sailor girls gave to the public or maybe it was just because this was the most anticipated high school football game of the year. Whatever it was, The Darkness noticed the dramatic difference in the atmosphere of the game. No one was looking over their shoulders, parents were allowing their children to run off and play together, and people were actually laughing. To be honest, The Darkness wasn't sure whether she was upset by the obvious lack of fear these people were showing or absolutely thrilled that people weren't constantly on the look out for her. It would certainly be much easier to turn someone into a youma and then collect energy with people not trying to drive her off. But on the other hand, the fear that she was creating in this town was heartwarming--the feeling she got simply by knowing that these humans were living in fear of her was amazing. But now that people weren't acting scared...it was kind of...depressing. But one thing for was sure, at every single place she tried to collect energy, more sailor senshi popped up. Last time was the very worst: not one, but two senshi appeared! And they had help, too! Counting on her fingers, The Darkness counted off the new senshi, in order of their appearance: Jupiter, Venus, and then Uranus and Neptune. Four senshi. It was definitely starting to become a pattern, and she was no fool...having decided a while ago that she was going to attend the York Prep vs. New York High School football game, The Darkness already anticipated the awakening of a new sailor scout. And if one wasn't awakened, chances were good that one of the previous senshi would come to the aid of the poor, helpless humans. That's why she thought ahead...and tonight, she wasn't going to turn just one person into a monster, she was going to turn as many as possible into monsters...let the little sailor senshi take care of that mess! Then she would be free to collect energy, maim, and even kill a few people in the process. That was, if all went according to plan. She had no choice her where to sit; as soon as she reached the football field, there was a York Prep staff member in her face, asking her which school she belonged to. When The Darkness only blinked, the staff member rolled her eyes and pushed her in the direction of New York High School's section of the bleachers. Glaring over her shoulder at the rude woman, The Darkness took her place in the sea of blue and black, with several people shouting things about 'go sharks' and making rude comments about the people dressed in black and gold...York Prep fans. It was almost amusing, sitting there in the bleachers, watching the two groups of people engage in a sort of civil war. She even surprised herself by letting a small smile creep onto her face at the sight of two boys from the opposite schools look as though they were going to beat the hell out of each other right there. Much to her dismay, however, the two boys were pulled apart by girls (also of opposite schools) and led back to their seats. While the humans were obviously stupid, it was nice to know that they could be entertaining as well. The Darkness had just began looking over the crowd for possible youma when the crowd around her suddenly erupted. And these weren't happy calls, these people sounded generally angry. The parents and adults supporting New York High School settled simply for polite "booing," some even going as far as to stand up, but the teenagers, recent NYHS alumi, and current student body got more than just a little livid. Never before had The Darkness seen such anger in humans--even in her past conquests, when stealing their energy, no one actually got mad--they were scared! And it was quite a shock to her that the teenage humans could get so upset...and over what? The Darkness was still trying to figure out why all the young people were standing, screaming, some even cursing and using hand gestures that would have probably gotten them in trouble with their parents. Standing up herself to see over the crowd, The Darkness craned her neck to see what everyone was looking at...and soon enough, she got her answer. Standing in front of the crowd dressed in black and gold, some students even painted like tigers (that must have been their mascot, The Darkness found herself thinking), were a group of girls all dressed in matching uniforms. And they were...cheering? The York Prep crowd reacted wildly, standing up and cheering; really getting into what the cheerleaders were doing. Off to the side, someone in a tiger mascot outfit danced around, also trying his best to get the York Prep supporters to get into it. Though she wasn't familiar with human traditions, an answer to her confusion was quickly provided: the York Prep pep rally had begun. |
