There was something beautiful about a well-oiled, well-run machine. Not, of course, that anyone used oil anymore to lubricate moving parts, not now that there were synthetic lubricants that lasted longer and worked better, but it was the principle of the thing, really. The entirety of the ship was a wonderful, beautiful, complex machine made of a million other little machines all working perfectly in-sync, and, at the risk of sounding redundant, it was beautiful. Raisa fell in love with the Odyssey about five seconds after setting foot on her. She could have happily spent days examining all of her features in personal and looking at all her different systems.
Granted, all of its systems were not her business, and there wasn't enough time in the day to go around checking them all out. But the first thing she wanted to see when she stepped aboard was down in Engineering. She fidgeted in the lift on the way down, wishing that the thing could move a little faster. Not only did she want to check out all of the equipment, but she also had to introduce herself to some of her fellow engineers; she'd be working closely with them, so it would be best to be on good terms with them. First impressions were important, and she intended to make a good one.
Once she reached the deck, however, thoughts of colleagues flew out of her head.
Raisa had been on the engineering decks of large starships before-- she had, after all, gone through training and internships and had repaired practically every component that could be found there at some point. It still never failed to be impressive, though, these massive starships and their massive propulsion systems. She wanted to look at it all, and quickly became fascinated, enthralled, and several other terms that meant that she wasn't paying attention to anything other than the Odyssey's systems.
