"U.S.S. Brumby this is the Odyssey, you’re clear for arrival in shuttle bay two." The flight from Earth to the orbiting giant known as the Odyssey, was a quiet and tense one. The helmsman of the shuttle wasn’t sure if she should strike up conversation or be completely silent, as now Commander Olivia Aldridge was known for her swift changes in mood and approach. Succumbing to her own apprehensions, the accompanying officer went mute. Olivia, however, could be noisy without even having to speak. You could almost hear her thoughts if you focused hard enough on the dead air. Her eyes glazed a bit in the shuttle, not even paying attention to the beautiful site of the Federation’s newest starship through the windows in front of her. She was too busy going through the duty roster in her head and fixing her bun so that no hair was sticking out. After double and triple checks to her uniform, the shuttle slipped through the force field and rested on the floor of the bay. A good number of crew members were walking around, preparing the ship for its departure. Her shuttle obviously wouldn’t be the last to arrive. Crates and round containers were stacked in the corners that appeared to have just been unloaded from other vessels. Everyone there certainly had a task and it wouldn’t be long until Olivia had hers. Unsure whether or not she was going to be greeted by the Captain, she stood at attention and waited for the shuttle door to reveal her greeter.
With the announcement of the arrival of Commander Aldridge's shuttle, David quickly came to grips with how things were going to play out amongst the top-ranking officers on the ship. He'd known Gideon for some time, but he had yet to serve as the man's counselor. Apparently it was a position that was loosely titled and also covered the tasks of grunt work and enabler. He stood in the massive, bustling shuttle bay, awaiting the door to crack open so he could get a look at their first officer in the flesh. He'd reviewed her records several times (medical and non) and was interested experiencing the woman first hand. Finally, there she was, tidy as himself and prepared for the best (or worst) scenario. She seemed, however, to have a stick up her ass. As suspected. He smirked and pushed it upward into a friendly, welcoming smile. "Commander Aldridge? I am Lt. Commander Long. Captain Mason sent me to greet you. He's awaiting your arrival in his ready room." He have her a polite nod and extended his hand to the woman. Doctor first, gentleman second, officer third. "How was your trip?"
"Less than satisfactory and more an inconvenience. I would have rather transported, but I suppose supplies have taken precedent over personnel," she complained, standing down from attention. She extended her hand to the pleasant counselor, her sincerity was almost as cold as her hand. She headed towards the exit without waiting for Dave to lead, acting more as his liaison. Her eyes examined the crew as they busied themselves in the bay, which of course prompted her to reprimand a cadet for his uniform. She shifted her head a bit to see if the counselor was following.
