Who: Remus and Gen
What: An inconvenient arrival
When: Early afternoon
Where: Outskirts of the city
Status: Finished
Things were different. The world around her had shifted. Where she expected ruins, proper houses stood. Streets were clean where they should be covered with vines, wrecks and stones. There were birds in the sky. But it wasn’t what she noticed first. No, the feeling she had woken up with was one of utter emptiness. They were gone. Her people weren’t there anymore. She was alone. A part had been ripped from her.
The loss brought panic with her. She had stumbled onto the street and was aimlessly wandering the streets. She needed an explanation but she did not dare to shout. Monsters lurked around every corner and she was already careless enough. She clutched the wand tightly. The had ran out of ammunition years ago and the machine gun she used to carry with her belonged to the past now. Gen wielded a short sword in her off hand, in case things got too close. It had saved her life more than once.

It was happening again. On some level, Remus felt like he had known it wasn’t over. The Man wasn’t going to let him off so easily, not when he’d realised the power he could have over his transformations. It had to be fun for him, playing with the wolf. It definitely wasn’t fun for Remus.
As he’d felt different and uneasy, Remus had decided to apparate further away from the city, and he remembered noticing with delight that there didn’t seem to be anyone around. Just in time. He cried out in pain, bent double and feeling his bone start to shift. It was definitely happening. As he felt the wolf start to creep in and take over, he saw her. He wasn’t alone.

A cry echoed through the streets and made her jump. A newcomer? A trap? There hadn’t been newcomers for over a year now. A trap was more likely. But what if it wasn’t? They could use someone new? Fuck! She couldn’t feel anyone. That might be the only person still around. That and crazy old Jake. She looked at the battered want in her hand and prayed, it wouldn’t malfunction. The crack in it had come from a fight and she had fixed it to the best of her abilities. But her wand mending skills were rather poorly. So now she lived with the occasional misscasting.
And then she saw him. He’d come out behind a truck and his body seemed forced into a transformation. “Stop right there,” she demanded. Fear gripped her voice and held it captive.

Remus had no real intention of moving. Pain was gripping him like a vice, and he could barely see straight, never mind move. But soon, he wouldn’t be Remus Lupin anymore. Soon, he would be the Wolf, and the Wolf would definitely move very quickly in her direction.
He could see her wand. She was a witch. Surely… surely she would figure it out before it was too late and disapparate to somewhere safe. But it was broad daylight, there was no moon in the sky. There had to be a way to warn her. He choked out a few syllables of sound, but it didn’t really make any sort of sense. Bones cracked and he couldn’t help but scream.

She stared at him. Her chest heaved with rapid breaths. The man was in pain. This was a curse. Was he doing that to him? Whenever bad things happened, it was him. Shit! What should she do? Gen could vanish in a split of a second but others weren’t as fortunate. Where were they? She only detected a faint presence and that’s it.
Trap him! It would keep people safe. But what if that was what the Man wanted her to do? It would be safer for her to turn her back and survive. “Stupefy!” Gen set a jet of scarlet light into the monster’s direction. It might not be enough to have any effect.

What was left of Remus knew exactly what she was doing, and he felt faintly grateful for a split second. The Wolf wasn't quite so understanding. He stumbled back, temporarily disoriented, and as soon as he got his footing back there came a low, ominous growl.
What was human in him was vaguely aware, like watching something happen from behind frosted glass. There was no control left. The Wolf growled and snapped and lunged forward. Human blood, blood, so hungry and so angry. Remus was gone, and the last thing he would remember was the look on that new girls face as the Wolf rushed to attack.

Yeah, nope. That thing was not something she wanted to mess with. Screw altruism. Right now, it equalled pure foolishness. There was only one sensible thing to do: fuck off. Fuck as far off as she could. She disapparated and appeared a while away in an empty building.
Genevieve sank to the floor as the after image of the huge fucking wolf lunging at her flooded her senses. One more time she had barely survived.
