Oh god I tried to wait, I really really did, but the TV show got me so ASOIAF-psyched that I had to keep reading. Totally just finished A Feast for Crows while on the commute to work this morning. WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH MY LIFE FOR THE NEXT 1 MONTH AND 26 DAYS???



Answer: Be thankful daily that I wasn't reading these at publication date. 6 years, good lord!! HOW DO YOU DO IT.

I totally meant to continue writeups/impressions after each book, but then I finished A Clash of Kings and -- tore headlong into A Storm of Swords, and every time something BATSHIT INSANE happened I wanted to post to the community about it, but then I just kept reading instead. Gonna try to keep this post short but sweet, since it's mostly reactions rather than in-depth meta/speculation.

If anyone can even remember chronology anymore, I'm some 900 pages into SOS -- my cutoff point is, uh, the trial at King's Landing & taking inventory of the Kingsguard.

walburga & I have decided to undertake an experimental PSL and wanted to invite the lot of you (or whoever would like, that is) to take part. Please have a look here for more information pertaining to what we'd like to do.

usurper is going to be a very loose, no-stress PSL based off of the action proceeding, leading up to and directly following Robert's Rebellion. When we get our feet, we'd like to open up fivekings, which would be a community dedicated to riffing off of the action directly encircling the War of the Five Kings. This community would run concurrently and would be based on the characterizations which we established in usurper.

So, if this looks sweet to you ... sweet. Any questions? Please comment here or on the info-post and we'll keep our eyes peeled for you. ;)

-- but where is Jaime? ngl his is the name that befuddles me the most. I default with the Spanish pronunciation, but sometimes I try tagging on a hard j -- Jame? Jamie? Or is it GRRM's play on j'aime and Jaime is therefore pronounced similarly? THOUGHTS? There's some discussion here (click at your own risk, though a quick scan of the first page leads me to believe that it's spoiler-free).

Also I've been saying Wes-TER-os instead of WES-te-ros.

SO. I finished GoT at the end of December but never got around to typing up my proper reaction post -- and then got even more siderailed by starting Clash of Kings. So I am now going to try to decipher my incoherent scribbled notes from when I was sick and delirious in bed & had just finished the book! 8D I can cobble something together, though. Promising NO SPOILERS for the second, & this will be about the first only. ... and then I can continue into CoK with impunity.

HOLY SHIT I FINALLY FINISHED THIS WRITEUP. SO I LIKE TO TL;DR.

SUP DUDES. I just wanted to share this site with you all - a Russian gentleman who goes by the handle "Amok" did a bunch of ASOIAF art, and I like it quite a bit. It really shaped the way I saw - and continue see - the characters. Particularly Syrio Forel. I can't stand that he's not bald on the show. :|

Michael Komarck does some great stuff too. This is probably my favorite ASOIAF-based picture OF ALL TIME.

ETA: Some of the pics in Amok's gallery are a tad bit spoilery! Nothing too bad, though, probably just a bunch of characters you've never heard of.

In which I have just finished Game of Thrones and flail at Julie, because my mind is not quite up to processing things intelligently yet. Spoilers through Book 1, obviously!

As for me: I am Julie! I finished A Game of Thrones at the end of December, so I'll be posting my thoughts on that shortly, & then picking up the second book soonish. Right now, my fave is probably Tyrion. Heroes to the left, I love me some snarky ambiguous dwarves with soft spots and wise words of wisdom. Plus I'm endlessly fascinated with all of the Lannisters, and cannot wait to learn more about them in succeeding books. akfldglkdf;lkg.

Also, Dany is pretty fucking baller.

We are the A Song of Ice and Fire book club ladies & gents of Insanejournal. The idea is simple: get people to read A Game of Thrones, both for the sake of glorying in GRRM's infernal genius and so that we are all up to speed with the first tome of the epic tale before HBO airs the show in April. Everyone is welcome to join! Our rules are simple:

I Don't be a douche.

II Don't spoil people. We're all at different parts of the story -- anything and everything that might be considered spoilerific should be behind a cut.

III Speaking of those cuts: stick the book chapter in it so that people who haven't gotten that far know not to venture within the post!
