Grasping the gear shift with confidence that he had no right to have, Donovan paused a moment before offering Kyu-Sik a simple shrug. "Never," he repeated his earlier confession, refusing to look doubtful.
It wasn't a reasonable nor responsible decision to get behind the wheel of the car without any prior experience at all, and Donovan was well aware of the danger he was putting them both in by doing so. If asked, he'd gladly give up. Maybe call Louisa for help. But he felt partially at fault for this whole mess even if it was Mi-Ho that forced her brother along, and was somewhat determined to prove to Kyu-Sik that he was capable of doing something to repay the trouble the other went through. The man's impression of him didn't seem all that great, anyway.
"Don't worry, I think I got this figured out." Because how difficult could it be? Teenagers could do it while texting. And to demonstrate, he put the car into what he hoped was drive and pressed the gas with an approximation of how fast he wanted to go.
Realizing the car was going far too right and too fast toward a tree, Donovan quickly corrected the direction. Probably not the smoothest, but he felt he was getting the hang of it.
