Mabelle wasn't the only person in the room uncertain of how to react. Dealing with the violence was easy for him. He did get knocked back a step, but he was able to hold his own ground easily enough. And, ignoring her protests, he had been ready to reached out and just drag her over to the table anyway. However, that's when the tears came. Frowning, he went silent himself, at first just waiting for her to stop. He had made plenty of people cry in the past, but he just didn't think she would have broken that easily. At least not like that. He wasn't sure what he liked least, the total non-reaction or the tears. It wasn't any reaction that he ever pitied and hardly one he ever understood. In this case, avoidance was likely the best answer.
"Why would I force you to do something like live," he replied coldly, finding it best just to turn and walk away from her at that moment. He never had a clue what to do with crying people that didn't involve just hitting them. And hitting would likely have been a bad move in this case. Plus, the question he brought up may . He did practically force her to stay alive. He was keeping her indoors and now he was demanding that she eat. He still wasn't going to admit to himself why, but he knew he was lying to her.
Michel let out a heavy sigh, grabbing two cups from the cabinet and using one to get a drink from himself. After another moment passed, he finally shook his head. "I don't care if you don't like it, but I do care that you don't die." He repeated, still remembering what she had said to him after she cut out his eye. It seemed appropriate, even if he had been avoiding the implications of such a statement. At that moment he was the only person who cared enough about her. It didn't make him any better of a person towards her, but that didn't mean he wanted to see her go down like that. He cleared his throat and shrugged though. "Not like that anyway. You're the most fucking frustrating person I've ever met, but you're really not that goddamn pathetic. You should quit acting like it."
Setting the other cup on the table for her, he waited, as if then challenging her to come and get it.
