While she had always preferred to prepare meals from scratch, the time and place wasn't really available anymore, and fresh food was annoyingly perishable. But there was a surprising abundance of untouched food on the shelves, and Mabel was overwhelmed by the variety of snack foods she didn't even recognize, both intrigued and skeptical by the bright packaging. At least she had time to read the nutritional info on the back to determine if it'd be worth grabbing.
As large of a store as it was, with plenty of places to hide, Mabel was still on alert as she poked through boxes of ready-to-eat snacks. Dropping the couple bags of beef jerky she had grabbed, Mabel froze instinctively upon hearing something hit the floor an aisle over. Holding her breath, she listened for any other sounds before slowly peeking around the corner, ready to pull out her pistol if needed. From her experience with supermarkets, it wasn't unusual to find stray hungry pets abandoned by their undead owners, but she wasn't going to take her chances.
Once she concluded that the bread and cereal aisle was clear and safe from any lurking zombies that she may have missed, Mabel limped her way over to the mysterious box of hot dogs and nudged them with the toe of her boot. That didn't make sense, they were still frozen solid and this definitely wasn't the freezer section. "Hm," she frowned, glancing back up to look down both ends of the aisle.
