The uneasy subject change worked well enough to help ease the tension that was building with himself alone. It was an important holiday and regardless of what had happened, he had already been planning to spend it with her anyway. Perhaps if he thought of the situation as the same thing they had already been doing with benefits, it wouldn't be so bad. That's what he'd keep telling himself. What else could possibly change? Mitchell nodded and took a deep breath, oddly appreciating the cool air.
"I have some things for you, too." Some things could've easily been translated to some necessities. He had nothing extremely extravagant to give her, as his funds were a bit limited. However, through their time together he couldn't help but notice how painfully ragged her clothes really were. An undone hem and holes in her stockings was completely unacceptable. Mitch had wanted to tell her she looked like a motherless child at some point, and that's when he realized what the issue was. Instead of rubbing it in, which he'd certainly regret not doing later, he decided to just get her some clothes that weren't falling apart. There was always her birthday to get her something she might've actually enjoyed.
The only difficulty had been keeping the new clothes from her until the holiday. What she was wearing wasn't terrible, but Christmas couldn't come soon enough. "You haven't done something stupid like change your favorite color, have you? Because if you did, you're just going to have to change it back."
