Mitch looked back at her with all of the seriousness of the situation still on his face. Inwardly, he felt overwhelmed by the thought and that strange mix of hatred and giddiness. Had anyone else heard her, they might've thought it funny. She wasn't very big or threatening, though perhaps a bit creepy. However, he knew better than anyone that she was fully capable of doing exactly what she promised. That was something he had resented, but he accepted it and understood now better than ever before. He might have been hers, but she wasn't going to get away with it without being his. It was time to work on turning the tables instead of avoiding them altogether. He would never change his mind.
"And if you change yours," he responded, holding out the cookie plate towards her so that she would take it from him for a moment. "I won't waste time dealing with other people. Understand?" The whole 'leave me and I'll kill you' thing was far from romantic to most, but it was the best way he knew to tell her that he needed her. He didn't want her, but he still needed her. Truly committed relationships were rare between teenagers, but they had already been in one longer than he knew and lives were on the line. He had never needed anyone else anyway. Mitch had to briefly wonder what his uncle might have thought about all of it, but that didn't matter. None of their other relatives mattered at all. Any consequences of their unholy union would just be dealt with as they came.
