Beginning to undwind the roll of gauze, Mabelle's hands stilled as she listened to Michel's ultimatum, understanding the serious weight of his words. Though what he was saying made sense, that the way they were going had to cease or else it would be far too detrimental to their lives, it only made the fact she wouldn't have come to the conclusion so easily without his making it clear that more apparent. A strained nod, and Mabelle clutched the gauze tighter, hit with what she had done wasn't just a mistake affecting their strange relationship, but that what she had done was beyond abnormal.
"I don't know how to prove to you that I do," she admitted truthfully while beginning to patch up the empty socket. While she wasn't the type to lie so lightly, had never lied to him, but she couldn't ask him to trust her on that principle when trust was the issue in the first place. "If there was anything I could do..." she offered openly, but already knew it was hopeless. Hands trembling as she finished with dressing the wound, Mabelle made sure it was secure before gathering the rest of medical supplies and relocating herself to the table, facing away from him once more.
Organizing the supplies into order that she used them, despite it being rather self explanitory, it served as a temporary distraction for what she had to say next. "But you're right, I'll stop bothering you. For good. I think I'm sick..." she spoke the last part quietly and more to herself, uncertain how to face the realization, knowing she couldn't use it to excuse her actions. She never felt so disconnected as she did in that moment, faced with an overwhelmingly crushing unwillingness to do anything to salvage what she could. "And selfish for thinking I could force you to feel the way I do. When I always knew... but in that moment," Mabelle stopped herself from continuing, because there was no point in bringing up what had already passed, in trying to explain how she had let herself get carried away by the way he held her because she knew he was drunk and it meant nothing at all.
"Please eat something, and change the bandages tomorrow," she instructed firmly.
