He was a bit older than she would have guessed, because his attitude was somewhat immature, although she never attempted to put an age on him. Eight years between them, it seemed like a lot once she did the math, although it wasn't anymore discouraging than anything else. She stood as little of a chance with him as she did before. But the mention of his birthday brought up an issue she hadn't put too much thought into.
"How do..." Mabelle paused to rephrase, not so much embarrassed as not certain the question was worth asking. "This new calendar confuses me. Not that it really matters, to celebrate. But I can't figure out when my birthday is supposed to be," she admitted, without actually expecting him to help her. The system wasn't that complicated, but she wasn't really too motivated to spend time trying to understand it. She only had a vague idea of what time of year it even was currently, only really keeping track by the changes of the weather. It was enough to give her a rough idea that her birthday shouldn't be for a few more months, and then it only really mattered for keeping track of her age. Or did that even matter anymore?
If they spent more time trying to correct his outlines, they really weren't going to get much of anywhere at all that night. "It'll have to do," she decided, not too worried about the overall amateur quality of the lines so much that they were all there. "You should start with the skull. Don't worry about the detail or shadows too much yet."
