What: Running into Echo/Walking Around Where: Scrap Yard When: Afternoon Warnings: None Status: Closed | Complete G-Doc
They’d been there for a few weeks now, or at least she had been. Things were still interesting between herself and Murphy. Not something that she’d honestly expected. He seemed to want to take care of her, not that she was complaining. It was different and weird, yet nice.
She’d decided to head out instead of staying inside. Raven had been staying inside for a bit now. Playing around with her makeshift lab. Now? It was a matter of finding parts. Something to play around with. Especially when boredom was starting to set in. What she didn’t expect was to see Echo on the way out of the apartment building.
“Echo?”
When had she showed up in this weird place that was stuck in the past?
The environment Echo found herself in with no explanation was frightening, but also, Echo found it all very curious. She was certain as Raven that it was indeed in the past, before the Earth had been made uninhabitable by radiation from the original Primafaya. Still, it felt futuristic to Echo because she’d never experienced any of these devices before. Cell phones, televisions, movies, video games, music, and clothing were unfamiliar or in the case of the latter, simply strange and foreign to her. Gone were the animal furs, the leather, and in were garments refined and decorative with styles and concepts Echo knew would be absolutely nonfunctional in her world, but in a world where society had blossomed far beyond what it had been for her? It all worked; violence and war existed, but they were not played out the same as they were in her world. It was all so different and yet so fascinating.
Thankfully, Echo was roomed with Bellamy and she’d spent the last few days inside the apartment, trying to become accustomed to some of the objects and things that she had never experienced before. Microwaves? Stoves? It was all something she had to get use to and take in. After the third day, she finally felt that she was capable of once more facing the outside world and experiencing what it had to offer. She headed out, still in her same clothing since she’d been unable to buy anything yet-apparently she would need a job and warrior and spy were not exactly readily available. Not that she couldn’t find a way for them to survive without money, but having some clearly made things easier.
She was about to head out the door when a familiar voice called out to her. Could it be? “Raven?” Echo turned, gaze falling on Raven along with a feeling of relief and happiness at the sight of her friend.
Honestly? Murphy had been there longer than she had. Clarke had even been there too. Though, she wasn't any longer. Something that bothered Raven. Where had she gone? Supposedly it was the way that this place worked. It wasn't a bad place, though. Even if she'd only ever really talked to Dr. Wilson. Sam was a pretty nice guy.
"It's good to see you. When did you get here?" Raven asks with a smile. It was good to see the other woman. Noticing what Echo was wearing it gave her a bit of an idea. They could find things out and about. Along with food. Murphy had brought home ham and turkey. Sandwich stuff. There had been chocolate too. Something that was really good.
"I was about to head out and look for parts. You want to come along?"
Echo had no idea about Murphy being present or that Clarke had ever been here. Maybe the latter was for the best given she was not always a fan of Clarke’s methods even if she truly could not say anything about them. She had betrayed the Sky people too, including the man she was with now and it had taken Bellamy a long time before he could forgive her. It had taken all of them a long time before they could forgive her. Now, she didn’t know what she would do without Spacekru, especially Bellamy Blake.
“Likewise.” Echo, though not the warmest woman, was grateful to see Raven again and wrapped her in a brief hug. She considered her family now; five years confined in space would do that. “A few days ago. Bellamy is here too,” she added, releasing Raven and stepping back. Raven looked great, better than when Echo had last seen her, and a wave of relief washed over her. She’d been worried about the others back home and while she was still worried about those not present, at least seeing Raven gave her some comfort.
Echo knew she would stick out even without her sword, but being as she was deadly with or without weaponry, she felt secure enough at the moment. When Raven asked if she wanted to come along, Echo was secretly grateful. Though brave, exploring this place alone definitely didn’t feel like the best idea even if it seemed peaceful. At least the two of them could have each other’s back in case anything happened.
“Sure. Safer in pairs. I don’t really trust this place just yet.”
Raven hadn't exactly expected the hug, but she hugs Echo back. The woman, despite everything they'd been through, had become family. At the mention of Bellamy, however, she gives a bit of a nod. It didn't surprise her that he somehow ended up in this place.
"Murphy's here. He was here before I was."
If not for Murphy, she would've never gotten the damn collar off her throat. He wouldn't of gotten the one he had on when he’d shown up off either. Those collars had been a pain in the ass. More so when she'd ran him through on how to get the thing off. Being shocked by the collar while still being a bit wet hurt like a bitch.
She leads Echo out of the apartment," This place isn't so bad. I've been here for a few weeks now. When I showed up, I ran into Murphy and we managed to get the collars off."
Somehow, it did not shock Echo to hear that somehow Murphy had arrived here too. Survival was his thing after all. He seemed to have a knack for it. They weren’t the closest, but living in close quarters in space for so long had gotten Echo to respect him and in turn Murphy had come to trust her...sort of. She was pretty sure Murphy trusted no one except for Emori and Raven.
“Somehow, I’m not surprised to hear he made it here,” Echo replied with a small smirk. She moved to follow the other woman out of the building and into the streets of what people called Manhattan, but what her “entity” called Goodland. Echo didn’t care what they called it; she still didn’t trust any of it. There was no way there was no “catch” to this entire situation. Living a life full of potentially negative consequences, she’d come to expect them. Goodland didn’t seem any different.
A frown formed on Echo’s lips and she offered a worried glance at her friend. “I’m glad he was competent enough to get it off you,” she replied. “And before you say it, I’m glad you got it off him too. Even if he deserves a little shock once and awhile.” Being that they both still had collars, Echo believed they probably had come before her and Bellamy.
“You know me. I don’t trust easily,” she added. “But what’s the last thing you remember before coming here?”
"We're actually roomed together."
Something that she hadn't expected, but she was fine with it. Though, she didn't know who in the world their other roommate was. Upon Murphy's insistence her own room had been turned into a makeshift lab. It would give her something to do.
"He had me to tell him what he needed to do," Raven tells her with a bit of a smile. She wasn't about ready to say that she'd been shocked three different times before he'd managed it. He'd been a bit worked up and it had him shaking.
That was something that she did know about Echo. Trust had to be earned when it came to the woman of the Ice Nation. "Last thing I remember? Staying behind with Shaw and McCreary, while sending Murphy out to save himself."
At Raven’s response, Echo abruptly halted and turned to look at the other woman with a surprise evident on her face. “You’re rooming with Murphy?” She knew Raven was one of the rare individuals in existence that Murphy liked and actually trusted. Associating with each other was not surprising or shocking, but hearing that Raven was sharing the same space with him was both surprising and a little shocking. More so, Raven seemed okay with it. “I mean, don’t get me wrong, I know you’re one of the very few Murphy actually likes and trusts, but still, I never pictured you two being roommates.” Maybe this place had not given them a choice in the matter either.
Hearing that Raven had to tell him how to remove the shock collar did have Echo’s expression shifting into a smirk once more and she shook her head. “Yeah, God knows without you, none of us would have figured out how to remove it.” Raven was the tech goddess after all; Echo’s expertise lay in something more dark. Everyone had their talents, even if hers just happened to be death.
Echo nodded. Okay. So she was behind Echo and Bellamy. She wondered if Murphy was from the same place as Raven or if he was from a different place in the timeline. “You’re from before where I am then.” This place was strange.
"Where we're at has four rooms, I think. Mine got turned into a makeshift lab," Raven states with a bit of a shrug, like it was nothing. The day that Murphy had taken her collar off, he'd taken her brace off and massaged her leg. She'd ended up falling asleep in his bed. It had just become a thing after that. Neither of them wanted to be alone, after all.
She gives a slight smirk of her own," Not my fault that you all really suck with tech." It didn't, however, mean that someone couldn't learn. Murphy, when he paid attention, could do tech just fine. Any of them could learn if she ran them through what to do. Not that she saw herself as much of a teacher. Didn't mean others couldn't be taught, though.
"What do you mean we're from before where you are? What's the last thing you and Bellamy remember?"
‘Why am I not surprised to hear you turned your room into a lab?” Echo couldn’t help, but give her friend a small smile. Raven was amazing with technology and without her, Echo didn’t want to think of where they all would have ended up. Probably still wearing shock collars even here.
Yet, it was weird that Raven and Murphy were sharing a room with probably only one bed in it. Were they a couple now? Was Raven not saying anything to keep it from being awkward? Echo doubted Raven cared what people thought of her or who she was with. “So, you’re sharing a bed with Murphy then?” Echo wasn’t exactly afraid of speaking her mind either.
“Me and you were running in the woods. McCreary had just pretty much taken over. Murphy and Kane went back to help Diyoza and Abby.” Bellamy’s situation had been a lot worse. Being in the pits, fighting for your life because your own sister put you there was not exactly an ideal situation. Even now Echo felt a ripple of anger course through her. If she ever ran into Clarke or Octavia there was no guarantee what might happen between them. “I feel like that’s something he should tell you himself, Raven. It’s not exactly pleasant.” Not that any of their lives particularly were at most points, but Echo felt like it wasn’t her story to tell Raven or Murphy. Bellamy could tell when he was ready to.
"I hadn't intended to."
If Raven was being honest with herself, she hadn't intended for her bedroom to become a makeshift lab. That had been Murphy's idea. Since he'd known that she'd need a place to work on projects. The different things that she came upon. It had been a good idea at the time, too.
"I am sharing a bed with Murphy, but we keep space between us," she tells the other woman. They weren't sleep sleeping together. Not the way that Echo's mind was thinking of, probably. It was only recently that they'd even brought anything up about how they shared the bed together.
Raven raises a brow at that," Wait, what do you mean we were running in the woods. Why were we running in the woods?" That made absolutely no sense to her. Though, Echo did say that her and Bellamy were ahead of them. "Then I'll talk to Bellamy later. Have you explored at all since you got here?"
At the statement, Echo arched a brow. “Are you telling me that Murphy suggested you make your room into a makeshift lab?” Murphy being thoughtful? That didn’t sound like the same person she knew from five years in space. Then again, if it was someone he cared about, she knew he could be caring and thoughtful. Raven was one of those few people and she knew he could be loyal...when he put his mind to it and sometimes, when it happened to suit him. She liked to think it was the former most of the time now. “I mean I know he can care just that seems really thoughtful for Murphy.”
And sharing a bed. Well, at least that was all they were doing. Echo wasn’t sure how she would feel if Murphy and Raven had been doing other things in that bed. She knew they were close friends, but other than that? Echo had never thought Murphy would see anyone outside of Emori as a girlfriend. Still, maybe he was from a point where the two were having problems. It would make more sense as to why he was gravitating towards Raven. “Well, it’s probably best to stay together. This place is still really unfamiliar,” Echo added.
“They told us to run while they stayed behind to help Abby and Diyoza. They didn’t end up far behind us though.” McCreary had taken over and they had no choice; they didn’t have a plan or the numbers to take him out. Echo figured on Octavia not backing down from that fight regardless of any kind of peace that McCreary broke with her. “Not really. Not since the first day I arrived. The apartment has been a lot to get use to on its own.”
"Murphy was the one who suggested I turn my bedroom into a makeshift lab."
It was mainly because he'd known that she'd need a place to work. Otherwise, she'd get bored or cramped in the bedroom while having parts in there. Things would've gotten pretty dicey. So, the situation worked out just as well for her. They'd even gotten rid of the bed and left the dresser. The nightstand ended up in their bedroom.
"Murphy can be thoughtful. He's not always a dick, Echo."
At one point she'd of thought that he was. Raven should've hated him after he'd shot her, giving her the injury that was always in pain. One that she knew he felt bad about. This place led them to being in the same room. To sharing a bed and even kissing. Him taking care of her.
"It is unfamiliar, but it's not a bad place. The people aren't so bad either," she tells the other woman with a bit of a smile. Even if she mainly only knew Sam from talking to him. He seemed nice enough and talked her language. Which was to mean he seemed real good with technology.
She shakes her head at the explanation. All of that went over her head. All that she cared about was that Murphy had gotten out safe. It was good to know that she, herself, had managed it. "Well, I'll get you out of the house. There's a bunch of nice little places around here. Though, don't pay attention to the ostriches." It was something Murphy had told her upon ending up in Goodland. "For now, though, we're going to one of the scrap yards. I'm getting bored and restless, so we're looking for parts."
It was rare, but yes, Raven was right. Murphy could be thoughtful and he could even be caring to that particular person or persons. “You’re right. He can be decent. I’m glad he was here to take care of you and help you out,” she replied, offering Raven a small smile. ‘Well, taking care of each other I should say.” It was still strange, but she was glad Murphy had been there to look out for Raven and vice versa. She wouldn’t have wanted either of them to end up here on their own.
“I’ll have to take your word for it,” she said, smirking. Echo didn’t know enough about the people here yet. Maybe once she posted on the network, and received a few responses, things would be different.
Echo was more than okay with an excuse to get out of their apartment for some fresh air. She knew she would have to eventually find work anyway. As comfortable as she was in these clothes, she knew she would need more than just one set. And they would need food more than even that. “I’ll try to avoid the...odd looking wildlife.” Echo had never seen anything like them in her life. “But I’m more than okay with having an excuse to get out of the apartment.”
If anyone knew how Murphy could be the most, it was her. A part of her was still trying to figure out what had happened the other night. Not that she was against it. It had been nice. To be able to sit close to him and just watch television. Even if she'd fallen asleep halfway through whatever they'd been watching.
"Guess you will."
Raven hadn't talked to too many people on the network, but she'd talked to some. Mainly one. Which meant she'd have to talk to people a bit more. She'd just focused on other things. Like Murphy, where they were living and her makeshift lab. "I'm told that they'll bite if you don't," she teases. "Then lets get moving."
“For the moment anyway,” Echo added with a playful smirk. Though she was naturally distrustful of people, she had attempted to be more open to people even if most interactions in her past suggested it was a bad idea. Maybe Raven was right and the people here were not like the ones they had the unfortunate luck of running into back home.
“I’m not opposed to slicing off a few tongues and yanking a few teeth,” Echo replied, still smirking. She’d refrain from violence until she was threatened, but she was not exactly new to the experience of causing that kind of harm either.
“Lead the way.”
"I'm not even sure if ostriches have teeth. Though, leave the local wildlife alone."
There's a bit of a smile out of the mechanic and she shakes her head. Echo would be a bit of a handful, but she didn't mind it. They didn't need to go after the people or the wildlife. Not if they didn't have to, at any rate.
Despite the pain that was setting in, she leads them down and off towards one of the scrap yards. There wasn't anything specific that she was looking for, exactly. "If you see anything interesting, let me know."
“It sadly wouldn’t surprise me if there happened to be a bird with teeth that existed, but I’ll keep my distance. Don’t worry,” Echo reassured with a playful smirk. Echo didn’t go looking for fights with animals or people for that matter. Besides, as a spy you learned there were far better ways to deal with targets than confrontation. But that wasn’t her thinking style anymore. She had to try to look at this as some kind of second chance even if it was in the past and the others were not here with them. Monty always said to do better, right?
Echo kept pace with Raven easily, allowing the mechanic room to take the lead since the ex-spy had no idea where she was going anyway. She did, however, stay close to the other woman just in case this place happened to not be as safe as everyone wanted others to believe.
“I’ll let you know.” Echo glanced around as they entered the scrap yard, eyes scanning the debris for any sign of something Raven might find interesting to tinker with.
"It wouldn't surprise me either."
Nothing about Goodland would really surprise her. All of this was in the past. It wasn't futuristic, at least not to her. She didn't find too many things hard to handle. Not after everything that they'd been through. At least they weren't being tortured here. They just needed to figure out how to live in the place.
"Sounds good to me," she tells the other woman before moving through the scrap yard herself, to see if there was anything that caught her attention.
