Who: Rémy Clements, Cameron Michaels
What: Cameron visits Rémy in his cell and finds him packing to leave
Where: Compton County Jail, cell block B
When: one fine day
Rating: PG-13 :)
Status: complete

Bailey wasn't the only person trying to make their prison fortress a little more homey. Someone had stocked the visitors lounge with an assortment of board games... Everything from 'Hungry, Hungry Hippos' to a hand-carved alabaster chess set. Cameron had decided that the classic kids' game 'Cootie' would be the perfect ice-breaker for a visit to Rémy.

She'd felt like he was avoiding her ever since her first yoga lesson. The class hadn't exactly been a success. Most of the participants had slipped out early! Undaunted, Cameron expected this attempt to connect with the guy who'd saved her life and kept her company on the first night of the zombie uprising to be much more successful. Rémy was always more relaxed when they were alone.

She breezed into cell block B without bothering to knock, announcing her presence at Rémy's door with a cheery hello.

"I brought Cootie!" Cameron announced with a grin. She was about to make a joke about not having real cooties when she realized that Rémy seemed to be in the midst of packing.

"Oh, are you moving? We've got a couple of empty cells in H block," she offered brightly.

Rémy nearly smacked his head on the top bunk when she greeted him abruptly. He'd been busy trying to shove his portable typewriter into his hiking backpack when she'd arrived, effectively shattering his plans of leaving unannounced and unmissed. He really did believe that leaving without bidding any farewells face-to-face was the best possible route - good-byes were not one of his strong points, and he was reasonably sure that if Cameron asked him to stay, it would be near-impossible for him to refuse her.

He hated the ups and downs of puppy love. But as much as he tried to convince himself that he ought to try to shake these feelings of adoration, his heart had other ideas. The only way to deal with unrequited love, he'd decided, was to take oneself as far away as possible from it. A book and note he'd intended on leaving for her lay on the bed nearby, tied with ribbon.

Startled, he turned around to face her, trying to give her the least suspicious smile he could muster. So much for making a clean break.

"Cootie, eh? Is that a game?" he asked her, not-so-subtly skirting the subject of moving.

"It is. When you were a kid in grade school, did the boys pretend that the girls all had cooties? And the only cure was a cootie shot," Cameron reminisced.

She thought she knew what was going on here: Rémy was planning to move to one of the really remote cells in the prison. Someplace isolated, like down by the infirmary or even one of the horrible solitary confinement rooms. Cameron really couldn't understand why Rémy would want to do such a thing. It seemed horribly depressing to her! It seemed silly to try and talk him out of it, however. If he felt better with a little distance between himself and the rest of the residents, she wouldn't judge.

She'd just have to find excuses to visit him more often!

"This version of Cootie is nothing like that, though," Cameron reassured Rémy.

If Cameron had made that guess before he'd acquired his grand fishing trip ideals, she would have been exactly right. That, in fact, had been his plan before he'd decided to go off and play frontiersman - solitary confinement seemed like a welcome relief from sharing a cellblock with that Avery girl, who seemed to look at him as though he were lower than some sort of plague-carrying vermin. He'd made up his mind about leaving the prison completely, though, or so he'd thought.

"I guess kids might have played that, but I don't really remember." Rémy said honestly, scratching at his hair nervously.

"Is it like tag?" he asked, hoping that whatever this game was, it wouldn't last too terribly long. He didn't think he'd be able to keep up the charade for much longer.

"Maybe? I guess sometimes we'd chase each other," Cameron said uncertainly. "I just remember the cootie shot. Psst." She mimed injecting her arm with an imaginary needle as she made the sound effect.

Safely inoculated against cooties, Cameron seated herself on the bottome bunk among Rémy's possessions and opened the box to reveal different colored plastic bugs.

"It's kind of dumb, really," she admitted. "I basically just wanted to stop by and talk to you for a minute. I could help you move your stuff, if you want."

Rémy's expression softened when she sat down on his bunk and he smiled wistfully at her, unable to keep his face in neutral mode. It took concentration not to sigh longingly in her general direction. He picked up his winter hat up off the bed to make room for himself to sit down and placed it on his head with a silly grin. He poked her in the arm, just in case she wasn't sufficiently protected from his cooties.

"It is not dumb," Rémy assured her. "Perhaps if I'd gotten my my shot, I wouldn't have come down with that unfortunate infestation... "

He picked up a few of the plastic bugs, set them on top of his hat, and left them there.

"It's very nice of you to offer, but I think I'm fine. It's not as though I own an awful lot."

Cameron giggled at the cootie infestation. She scooted closer, reaching up to retrieve one of the little toys from his hat.

"I love that hat...Fortunately for both of us, cooties aren't real." She put the bug back in its box, then turned back and carefully removed Rémy's hat from his head. Cameron looked at him quizzically, as if judging the effect of her modifications.

"Can you see at all without your glasses?" she asked next.

Rémy eyed her curiously, not really sure what the question had to do with cootie infestations.

"Oh, my vision's tolerable - I'm only really bad at details and distances," he explained after some thought. As though to test this theory, Rémy removed his spectacles and folded them neatly, blinking and squinting as his eyes adjusted to this new form of perception.

"I should probably get some new ones. These ones broke awhile ago," he said, frowning at the bit of duct tape holding one of the temples in place.

It was very obliging of Rémy to take his glasses of for her, since Cameron had already determined that they would be the next item to go. She reached out and touched his cheek, fingers tracing along his jaw, well aware that she was invading his personal space.

Life was scary and short. Rémy liked her; it was high time she let him know that she liked him too. In Cameron's mind this direct approach made perfect sense. It had to be Karma that they'd met at all. To feel that connection and not even acknowledge it just seemed wrong.

Ignoring his comments about the glasses--even though she'd brought up the subject--Cameron blurted, "I really like you, Rémy. You, um, you know that, right?"

Rémy winced slightly at her touch, startled that she was doing so of her own volition. Fascinating, pretty girls simply didn't do such things to guys like him. Especially not fascinating, pretty girls he happened to like. A lot.

He watched her expression, trying to discern what exactly was going through her mind - was it pity? Sympathy? Whatever it was, he certainly wasn't expecting the words that escaped her lips next.

Rémy was awestruck. Had he really just heard her correctly? All along, he'd convinced himself that this was a one-sided and possibly completely unwelcome crush. He'd been embarrassed and ashamed of his inability to stop thinking of her in that way and had done all he could to try to rid himself of his infatuation, and now she was saying what?

Was this even possible? Could it really be?

"R-r-r-really? But... why?" he stammered finally, unable to say whatever was probably the proper thing to say to an admission like that.

"I didn't know... I didn't think... I just thought you just... tolerated me. Just to be nice."

And then it occurred to him that the next words out of her mouth might be a 'but not in that way' letdown and his elated expression turned to one of dismay for a moment. It took him a few seconds, but he eventually decided that whether she meant she liked him in that sense or some other, entirely different sense, it really did not change the way he felt about her. And awkward or not, he really didn't think a better time would come for him to profess his adoration.

He reached out and took her hand in both of his, kissing it ardently before looking back up at her.

"I like you very very very VERY much, Cameron. As I'm sure you've probably noticed. I think you're wonderful, and enchanting, and surely one of the most mesmerizing people I've ever met. I'm sorry. I really don't know how to say this, but. Cameron, I adore you. That is to say, I like you an awful, awful lot."

Perhaps she would think he was being sentimental or over-the-top, but there was no taking it back now. He'd said what he'd wanted to tell her all along, and now that it was done, it came as a great relief to him to have gotten that off his chest.

Cameron hadn't missed the way Rémy had looked abashed at his declaration before forging ahead. He was, she decided, very brave to reveal his feelings in the face of possible rejection.

Not that she had any plans of rejecting him! She was blushing, both from the sentiments and from that kiss on the hand. Ooh-la-la!

She covered his hands with her free one and leaned in even closer to give him a kiss, determined that not another second would pass with him doubting that she liked him too. In that way.

Rémy did not notice the blushing, but the leaning in and placing her other hand on his was impossible to ignore. He hadn't expected a positive reaction to his passionate declarations, but now that he could see that she wasn't about to slap his face and flee in terror, he seized the opportunity to show her just how enamoured he was with her.

He leaned in to kiss her, stopping just short of pressing his lips to hers to murmur a quiet "Je t'adore," before sealing the deal.

Though he'd kissed her before, this one felt entirely different than any of their prior smooches - less like a game, and more like an expression of actual, genuine feelings. Perhaps something good had come out of the apocalypse after all!

Cameron kissed Rémy back with enthusiasm. Remembering their prior encounters, she slid a hand into his hair as insurance that he wouldn't suddenly shy away from her.

Eventually she did draw back, but only to pull her sweater off over her head. Underneath it she wore only a thin T-shirt, but in Cameron's mind that was hardly too provocative. Rémy had seen her naked on their first meeting! Come to think of it, wasn't it time to turn the tables?

She beamed at Rémy, shifting closer again and fingering the top buttons on his shirt. Unfortunately, the motion knocked one of his boxes of belongings off of the narrow bunk.

"Oops!" Cameron hoped that whatever was in the box wasn't breakable.

Rémy was surprised when she pulled away to take her sweater off - was that really necessary? But her t-shirt was clingy and she was not wearing a bra (thank goodness for hippies!) and he wasn't about to complain about that. He was about to whisper some more sweet nothings and go in for another kiss when his belongings hit the floor with a smash. He was less shocked by that, however, than by the fact that she was now toying with the buttons of his shirt.

He raised his eyebrows, not entirely sure how to react to this.

"Don't worry - I'll replace those." he said, referring to the box when he really wasn't sure what to say about the buttons.

He kissed her again quickly, as though that might distract her.

Being kissed was adequately distracting, at least for a minute or two. Then Cameron went back to the buttons, oblivious to any hint that Rémy might prefer a slower approach.

"It's only fair, Rémy," she giggled in response to his skeptical look. "You've seen me without my shirt on."

It seemed best to kiss Rémy some more before he could protest.

He had to admit - she had a point there, but that didn't mean he felt any more comfortable about the idea. To be sure, he hoped that his exploits with Cameron would eventually lead to various states of undress, among other things, but did she really want to jump into that so soon?

"Are you sure - " he began to protest, but she had already thought ahead and shut him up before he could say too much.

Rémy was a little worried she wouldn't like what she found if he let her have her way with his shirt buttons, but figured to hell with it, he'd cross that bridge when he came to it. He quit protesting, deciding that she probably knew better than he did what to do in situations such as these.

"I'm sorry - I don't know much about... well, this sort of thing," he tried to explain, placing a hand tentatively on the small of her back, but not daring to venture further than that.

Aw. He was so cute with the shy thing.

"You just do what comes naturally." Cameron whispered this advice huskily in Rémy's ear. Okay, maybe getting him shirtless would have to wait. She contented herself with nuzzling little kisses from his earlobe on down the side of his neck.

Rémy couldn't help but to let a meek "Oh mon dieu!" slip as she began to kiss his neck, causing him to positively tremble with both apprehension and anticipation.

Trying his best to follow her whispered advice, he slipped his meandering hand underneath her t-shirt this time, running his fingers up the indent of her spine. Unsure what to do while she acquainted herself with his earlobe and neck, he used his other hand to undo his own shirt buttons: One... two... three...

There was a certain amount of quiet gloating going on as Rémy proved that he wasn't too shy to start working around clothing obstacles.

Meanwhile Cameron reached for the backpack currently taking up way too much room on the bunk. She managed to set it carefully on the floor with no accompanying sounds of things breaking.

Horizontal was now an option although shoving Rémy down on the bed was probably a little too blatant just yet. Instead Cameron decided to reward his button initiative by slipping her hands inside his shirt.

Rémy shivered at her touch, feeling rather encouraged by her initiative. He pulled the last couple of buttons off rather than through their buttonholes in his haste to finish removing the shirt. Once both sides swung freely, he set to continuing their kisses.

"You are perfect, you know that?" he said enthusiastically, planting another kiss on her lips. "Extra - " (another kiss) " - ordin - " (and another) " - airement impeccable." (and another.)

He reached both of his hands up to run them through her hair, gazing at her as though he was amazed she was really there at all.

Cameron couldn't help but giggle as Rémy popped buttons off his shirt, but there was nothing derogatory or mocking about it. It was gratifying to see his enthusiasm.

"You are too," she responded to his endearments. "Extraordinary... I'm so glad fate brought us together." If there had to be a zombie armageddon, at least it had improved her dating prospects. Sometimes life in Snyderville could get pretty lonely for a progressive thinker.

Enough philosophy. More kissing!

"Moi aussi," Rémy replied to her comments about fate. As his dating life had been nonexistent prior to the zombification of much of the town, he really couldn't have said it better himself.

With one hand still buried in her golden curls, he drew the other down her cheek and along her jawline, pausing at her chin to tilt her lips up towards his yet again.

"You are beautiful," he said, following her lead by planting a few more kisses on her earlobe, then neck, then finally shoulder. He lingered there for a moment, taking in her familiar scent.

He awkwardly tried to free himself from his plaid shirt, attempting to slip the arm that wasn't entangled in her hair from its sleeve. He really only succeeded in trapping it at an unusual angle, and regretfully, had to pull away from the kissing to get his fingers free again. He made a face as he tried to disentangle himself, though he couldn't help but to let out an embarrassed chuckle at the complete lack of smoothness with which he accomplished this task.

"Mm..." Actual coherent conversation didn't seem necessary. Rémy's explorations sent an appreciative shiver down her spine.

Cameron reached out to help him out of his shirt, sternly resisting the urge to giggle, although she grinned at him impishly. It wasn't any secret that Rémy was inexperienced, but Cameron was finding his awkwardness endearing.

Once he was divested of his shirt, she grabbed the hemline of her T-shirt and pulled it off over her head with no difficulty at all.

Rémy made no comment about that, but his expression likely said it all. He was nothing if not appreciative of her freshly-exposed assets. His hands snaked their way up her ribcage regardless of the fact that his brain was not functioning at its full capacity.

"Um," he said eloquently, unable to divert himself from the glorious, soft, supple skin before him. He drew his legs up onto the bed as he leaned to kiss her some more, all the while ignoring the subtle sounds of something breaking beneath his socked feet. He kicked whatever-it-was away and continued with what he was doing.

"J'veux etre avec toi," he whispered, no longer really thinking about what he should or shouldn't say. He knew exactly what he wanted to do at this point and she had, after all, told him to do whatever came naturally.

Cameron stretched out on the mattress, oblivious to the scatter of plastic game pieces, and pulled him down with her. As so often happened with Rémy, she failed to catch his meaning when he reverted to French, but the words sounded good. No translation necessary. She planted a lingering series of kisses across his chest and shoulders before raising her mouth to meet his.

This beat board games any day.
