Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:amanda hart, cameron michaels, starshine

Who: Special Agent Amanda K. Hart, Hippy Chick Cameron 'Moonbeam' Michaels, and Special Agent Golden Retriever Starshine
What: First meeting!
Where: The Compton County Commune Prison, cell block H
When: not long after the barbecue
Rating: TBD
Status: incomplete

Cameron didn't understand it. Their new companion animal behaved so well for Bailey!

Well, all right, maybe Starshine didn't behave all that well for Bailey, but she came when he called her. Usually. She even came when he whistled for her! Which totally wasn't fair, because Bailey's whistles didn't even make sound!

Unless maybe he'd unwittingly learned to produce tones too high for the human ear to hear... It was a question for the ages.

Meanwhile Cameron was standing outside the door to her homey little commune cubicle--it seemed so institutional to call it a cell, though that was exactly what it was--trying in vain to get Starshine to come inside.

"Here, Starshine! Here, girl!" She waved a dog biscuit enticingly, but the golden retriever was more interested in playing. She crouched just out of reach, tail in the air and wagging enthusiastically, a big doggy grin on her face. Every time Cameron moved closer, Starshine backed up.

It was a standoff.

"Please puppy, I've got things to do today!" Cameron pleaded. Someone was coming along the corridor. Cameron leaned against the door, trying to look casual. Just hanging out with 'man's best friend'. The dog sure wasn't woman's best friend! How embarrassing!

"Traitor," she hissed at Starshine before beaming a tense smile at the newcomer.

"Hi! Beautiful day in the ol' cell block, isn't it?"

Mandie had taken to 'wandering' around the pleasant halls and rooms of the prison compound. No amount of flower wallpaper would make this place other than what it was. It was a prison, a place to send people who needed to be punished for their misdeeds. Not a club. But Mandie had to understand. This was an extreme situation and the prison was a good stronghold against the zombies crawling around the city outside. To be honest, she had to give credit to this 'Slim' fellow. But that was all she was going to give him. Anymore and she might as well toss away her badge.

Down one of the halls, she heard someone calling out. A young female, by the sound of it. When she turned a corner and started to follow the voice, Mandie also realized that the person the girl was calling out to wasn't a person at all. She didn't need to see the animal to know that. The girl was giving that away with the whistling and the calls.

At first, she thought about turning around and going down another hall because a child and her dog wasn't what she felt like dealing with. She was horrible with both. And dogs shed. And crapped. And peed. And she just didn't like dogs that much. Mandie wasn't much of an animal person. Surprise, right? But then she thought that maybe she could get some extra information out of the girl. If the girl had a fear of anyone or anything, she was sure to say so.

Oh dear. The girl was a blonde. She was an open target with that pretty innocent face too. A cell block was the last place she should have been. Mandie fixed her jacket and walked down the hall the rest of the way until she was close enough to speak to the girl without shouting. But the girl beat her to the punch.

"It smells back here." Was Mandie's bright and shiny reply, eyes brushing past the girl and into the cell ... that looked suspiciously like a make-shift bedroom. "You have a name?" She asked, completely ignoring the dog panting happily in front of her.

"It's incense. Patchouli," Cameron offered. It helped cover up the marijuana smell, but no need to mention that!

She noted where the stranger's eyes were roving and made a not-wholly-successful attempt to block her view into the cell. She and Bailey still hadn't cleaned up all the rubble from the construction of the 'secret' tunnel/doggy door between their two cells.

"I'm Cameron Michaels," she said with dignity, "and you are...?" It seemed this woman thought she was some kind of little kid or something. Which was silly because Cameron was all of twenty-three!

Mandie chose not to comment on how odd it was for a young girl to be named 'Cameron' since she was sure that 'Cameron' was more of a boy's name than a girl's. But wisdom and patience kept that little bit inside her head instead of on her tongue. She nodded, as if accepting that THAT was the girl's real name. After all, she didn't look like any sort of trouble-maker. Not the kind that deserved being put behind bars anyway.

That damn dog was sniffing her leg. Mandie stayed still for all of two seconds before taking a step forward in hopes of deterring the dog's interest by moving. "Hello Cameron, I'm Agent Hart." She offered in a kinder voice than she used with most. Which still was a bit off-standish but hey, that wasn't the point. As usual, she pulled out her badge and held it out for the girl to see before putting it away. "I just got here and I would app- stop it!" Mandie turned and glared down at the dog who was STILL smelling her. The damn dog didn't seem at all affected by her harsh tone.

Turning back to the girl, Mandie tried to collect herself again. "Have you been here long?"

The badge was very official and authentic looking and Cameron was suitably impressed when she saw it. Did the presence of an FBI agent mean that the United States still had an operational government?

"Are you here to investigate the... You know. The issue of the living-impaired? Starshine! Stop that!" she added ineffectually.

"I've lived in Snyderville full-time for the past several years. My partner and I co-own the Moonbeam Emporium," she said promptly, seeing no reason to lie about it. She was a businesswoman, after all. A member of the Snyderville Chamber of Commerce, even!

"It's a gift shop." That was more tactful than calling the place a head shop.
