Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Blanche Dunstan and Sally Perks
Where: Azkaban
When: June 22nd, afternoon
What: Visiting her favourite puppy
Rating: Probably not terribly high? Will let you know.
Status: Incomplete

The girl Sally was coming along very well, Blanche thought as she climbed the winding staircase of doom. She still hated that bloody thing in the summer. The air tasted of salt and as much as the wind would seep into her bones in the winter, the humidity clung to her like a cloak and the wind did nothing to ease the impression.

When she approached the bars, Blanche had to squint to see what the girl was doing. She appeared to be adding depth to a tree she'd just drawn on one of the walls of her cell. The girl had a gift for art, by all appearances, as well as at learning her lessons. "Sally." The name was to become enough to have the girl stand at attention, ready for any order. Blanche waited for her to do just that before giving the girl the news.

Sally had been working on the art tirelessly for weeks. In the dark it was difficult to be artistically proficient, especially when her tools were chalky rocks (she had Greg throw her the ones he found in his cell too), but it was coming along nicely. She had drawn a forest and a beach, winding around the cell. It was nicer than plain gray walls.

She was almost finished with one of the trees when she heard a voice. How had she not heard footsteps? She should have been paying more attention. It was Blanche! She had known it was the day Blanche came! She'd remembered.

Sally turned to face Blanche, setting the chalky rock down and then standing up straight, a bit of a smile on her face. Sally kept herself cleaner during the summer months, when it didn't freeze her to death to bathe. She brushed some of her long hair out of her face (lack of haircuts for eight years left her with quite a mane) and took a tentative step forward toward the bars. Not too close, though.

"Hello, Ms. Dunstan," she said pleasantly. Today had been a good day. The dementors were elsewhere and she had been happy with her artwork. It was clear almost immediately that she was having a far clearer afternoon mentally than usual. "I'm so happy you could come."

Blanche smiled. This was so much better than she could have expected. The others were all so distrustful of her, and Blanche remembered her own slave, Aliza. How she had pretended... But Sally, Sally, Blanche could see, truly appreciated her. Which was perfect for what she had in mind. "As am I, Sally. How are you today?"

Sally smiled a little wider still when Blanche said she was happy to be there. She didn't think that Blanche was actually happy to be in Azkaban, but she thought maybe the woman enjoyed talking to her too, at least sometimes. She really hoped she was at least sometimes interesting for her.

"I'm doing well," she answered, and really she was. The warm weather--hot, really--had lifted her spirits more than she'd thought possible. Not to mention she was well again, completely well, though there had been a few setbacks from the disaster a few weeks ago. Her foot wasn't even sore any more, and in the heat she was able to walk around barefoot without hurting anything.

"Are you having a good week, Ms. Dunstan?"

The girl was charming. The more Blanche came to visit her, the more the girl seemed to remember, and the better behaved she was. Really, Blanche was quite fond of Sally.

"Perfectly fine, thank you," she said with a nod and a smile. "I need you to do something for me, Sally. Would that be alright?" With that, Blanche pulled a vial out of her pocket and held it up to eye level. "I need you to drink this for me."
