Who: Orla Quirke and Ernie MacMillan
Where: The Ministry
When: Currently (Monday), on lunch break
What: Orla bringing her friend lunch
Rating: Not high at all
Status: Incomplete // Threaded

The clock on the wall of Orla's office seemed to taunt her. On any normal day she wouldn't pay it much attention until later in the evening when she was contemplating packing up her things and returning to her flat. Today it was different, she was merely waiting for half past noon-- the time that she had deemed appropriate for her lunch break. For a change of pace she intended to bring her pre-made sandwiches and thermos of tea to share with Ernie Macmillan. It wasn't entirely often that she let herself out of her self-made cage to go sit with someone else rather than eating over a large pile of files and barely permitting herself a trip to the loo. The only real difference was that she'd gotten a lot of work accomplished over the weekend and thought that warranted a slight reward.

When the clock reached the appropriate time, she packed away a small folder of files to go over and slipped them into her bag that also contained her lunch and rose to go surprise her friend with lunch. Since she began working at the Ministry, she'd made little attempt to socialize with anyone. However, Ernie managed to be there when she needed someone to hide behind or wanted to listen to something other than her own thoughts. She figured the least she could do for her lone companion was make sure that he was well-fed that day.

As she slipped out of her office, she noticed the approach of Harold, her chubby and lazy co-worker and quickly set off in the opposite direction. Sure, it would take her a few moments longer to get to Ernie walking this way, but it was worth it to thwart Harold's bumbling attempts at asking her on a date.

The short walk also provided her with a few moments to think about things, such as the current state of things, missing acquaintances, and her short visit with her father the previous night. By the time she'd mulled it all over she found herself outside large mahogany door, knowing that Ernie was on the other side, she knocked lightly before pushing the door open slightly and poking her head in. "I come bearing gifts." she said softly and grinned.
