The most chilling thing about this is that what's happened to Harry is most likely in spite of himself; no collusion here, but a price that's been exacted from him for his victory. Snape is the one to be pitied here; he's fallen and he knows exactly where.
Really well-written--I do like present tense in stories when it's done right. :)
