Happy Daft Day, [info]eriador117!
Recipient: [info]eriador117
Title: Grateful
Author: [info]lotrwariorgodss
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: ~ 25,000
Highlight for Warnings: * M-preg, AU, language, mentions of non-con (not between H & S), under-aged sexual antics alluded to, torture/violence, homophobia, some hints of other pairings, very plot-driven, some OOC Snape *
Prompt/Summary: The Wizarding World is a dangerous place for anyone who's different. But change is coming, and it only takes a tiny spark of life to set off a wildfire.
Prompt - It's illegal or frowned upon to be gay in the wizarding world. Harry as 16/17 in the fic, secret relationship with Professor Snape. All hell breaks loose when it is discovered.
Disclaimer: Though they're skewed a bit and in a different sort of world, the boys still belong to JKR & Co.
Author's Note: You said you liked AUs, and I really hope you weren't kidding, because this is as AU as it gets, lol. I squeezed some other prompts in there too without the slightest hint of bottom!Snape =)
A little sugary in places, quite dark in others, but I hope it pleases!

Grateful

If you want to link this fic, please link this post, not the off-site URL! Thank you!

Oh, good - I'm so glad you liked it! If it were up to me, it would have been about 25,000 more words to make the AU more comprehensive, but I had to rein myself in, lol.

This story was fantastic!

I loved your imaginative version of a magical world where Voldemort rules and the mPreg only made it better.

I loved all characters - Harry, Snape and Draco were perfect. Oh, I am so glad I got to read this story.

Thank you! Like I told [info]eriador117, I had so many plans for this universe that I just couldn't fit in the story. Glad you enjoyed it regardless!

Wow! I love what you did with this prompt. I have a huge weakness for stories where Severus and Harry meet for the first time when Harry is of legal age. Draco was so cute, and I loved Severus. I was a bit worried for all the boys once Lucius entered the picture, so very relieved to see a happy ending. Nicely done!!

I think I'm just fascinated by the fact that things like this were still illegal not that many years ago (and in some places still are)! Fascinated in a horrified sort of way, of course. Happy you liked the story - and Draco too, lol - and the happy ending (gotta have the happy ending)!

That was a wonderful story-really rich in detail. I liked the way their relationship developed, with just a bit of help from Draco. ;) Great job.

Being a book nerd, I'm ashamed to admit I had to look up The Handmaid's Tale to see what you were talking about, but now I'm intrigued...even if my hints were unitentional!
Thanks very much for reading & commenting, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

*claps loudly* This was an afternoon well spent! I love AU's. This was perfect. I'll admit it took me a whole read through to figure out the letters bit. I can be a little slow on the uptake sometimes.

Everything was so well done. The whole storyline hooked me right from the start. There were times I didn't want to keep reading for fear of what would happen next. But I put my fingers in front of my face and trudged on. I am very glad I did!

I should stop blabbering now. Great job!

Haha, yes - I'm glad someone mentioned the letters! Don't feel bad though - even my beta asked me what the salutations and conclusions of "LB" and "BB" were supposed to mean (Little Brother & Big Brother, for Sirius & Regulus), so you're definitely not the only one, and it was meant to be a figure-it-out-as-you-go sort of thing. =)

Anyway, thanks so much for the lovely comment (and for spending your afternoon reading it, lol)!

That was a great read. You created a atmospheric AU on a intreguing dystopian premise with wonderful characters (Draco's fantatic!) and a brilliant pace. One of the best mpreg plots I've read.

Very well written! This story has immediately become one of my favorites. I especially liked the way you revealed the dark AU in stages, starting with the mysterious letters between LB and BB, and gradually revealing the whole Voldemort-controlled AU in stages that fell naturally within the story, while at the same time never making the reader feel that they were confused & missing essential background information. Thank you for sharing this with us.

This was such a great AU. I love the desolate world that they live in, and that there's that little bit of hope for a better world. I love that Severus was so protective of his family, killing Voldemort and torturing Lucius.

The inclusion of Regulus just made me grin; I love his character.

I really wanted their world to be even more detailed, but it was already getting to the "nobody's going to read anything this long!" point, lol. And I've always thought that if Severus was protective of anything, it would be Harry (of course), and anything that brought him happiness. Thanks for reading and commenting!

This was a really brilliant dystopia you've created. It is always difficult to know how much background to give, and whether it will detract from the main story. You hit it just about right. It was chilling, but I adored the ending, in which Lucius got what was coming to him! I also really enjoyed Regulus' and Sirius' correspondence, and the small, yet significant role Remus played.

Draco shook his head, and a phrase Severus never thought he'd hear came out of his mouth. "Don't worry about me; you have to go get Harry. Hurry!"
That was perfect!

The background info was difficult...I wish I'd had another year to write, lol! And of course, Lucius had to pay for what he'd done (Severus just wouldn't be himself if he wasn't vengeful =)). Glad you liked all the little additions as well - they were some of my favorites to write. Thanks for reading and commenting!

Here by way of the SS-HP Prophet.
I have to say I normally hate AU, but dear god this was beautiful. I usually don't like m-preg either, but this actually explains how it would be possible instead of an "oops he's preggers" kind of deal.

I really liked this kind of AU. And I liked this mpreg story. I have read many stories where Voldemort reigns but I loved your take on it. It was something that was in place for a long time instead of just occuring during Harry's time in the war. I liked all the background information on the Breeders and such. That was creative thinking, indeed. I liked the connection between Harry and Snape and their feelings for each other were so genuine. Very nice. I really liked Draco in this too. Still arrogant, but a good friend. I knew something was up when he didn't throw his cloak on the floor during the visit where Harry was going to tell him he was pregnant. This story had just the right amount of angst and romance and nice bit of action and darkness. Very well written story; an enjoyable read!

Thanks very much! I really wanted to create this society, but I figured that for people to be so accepting of it and not rebelling at every turn, it had to have been something of a norm for a while, so I made Voldemort a particularly evil overlord in a long line of them. I wish I could have added more background (I had a lot more planned), but the story was already losing focus, and I couldn't have a [info]snarry_swap story that didn't center around the boys!
Draco was definitely my favorite character to write - I'm glad you enjoyed him =)

What an incredible read. I love AU's and this was a brilliant one. Scary to think that in lots of places around the world thinking like this is not uncommon. Glad sometimes I live in a country like Australia, where something as great as the Mardi Gras happens and no-one gives a damn. Not often a Draco fan but I liked him in this one. thanks for sharing this story with us, your grateful readers.

Wonderful story! I usually don't like AUs much, but I do like a well-written, in-character Snarry that's an M-preg with Harry as the father, so I gave this a shot - an a very happy fan I am! You wrote an entertaining story, but also won that brings up a lot of currently pertinent social questions.

Such a unique plot, yet so believable, in how those in power acted - the utter hypocracy of banning gay sex, yet creating gay Breeders who they use as slaves to provide their own future army, the twistedness of having the upper-eschelon of the leaders gang raping -via gay rape- to produce those pregnancies, yet having no family tie to their own children. Yes, such an utterly detached society they were creating, such a joy to see it torn down!

The sad bit is how, in some very real ways, it reflected the thoughts and behaviors of people in our own society only 20-30 years ago (when somehow they thought raping a lesbian would show her 'the way'?!?! or that if they sexually abused a gay man, somehow their own actions weren't also both rape and a twisted version of gay sex??), and how close to it the general value system sometimes still is, not only in relation to homosexuals, but just in regards to anyone who is 'different'.

Severus' act to save Harry and their son, with him as the actual killer of Voldemort - Great stuff! To tell the truth, I had always hoped that JKR would have both Snape and Harry join forces to kill Voldie.

I like that you did not get explicit in Harry's beating and that it was brief and relatively mild, but also realistic in that even that brief attack took all that magical healing could provide to have the baby be healthy. Also glad that even Lucius' torture was not explicit - yet am equally satisfied it was made clear that Lucius is getting what he deserves.

So sad for Draco (and his lover) - but I had to wonder that since Lucius was there in Polyjuice impersonating Draco, perhaps was not that Harry inadvertently gave them away, but that Lucius already had his son in custody and had killed Draco's lover before he ever went to trap Harry? Wish there could have been some relief there, but then, in war, there are sad, senseless losses, and I thought that was a good way of showing the effects on a major character, not just minor ones.

Glad you gave it a look, even if it was AU! I'm glad you brought up the hypocrisy in the thinking of the people in power - I feel like this thinking happens a lot with laws banning certain sexual practices, and those beliefs are so deep seated in some that there's no reasoning with them.

I did want Harry's beating to seem severe, but I know that puts some people off of stories entirely, so I'm glad that didn't ruin things for you.
Draco's part in this story is ultimately more tragic than either Snape or Harry's - he had gone out on a limb to grab hold of the life (and man) he wanted, and they were all taken from him. I imagined he'd feel somewhat responsible too for what happened between Harry and Lucius too, even while Harry was feeling responsible for giving up the fact that Draco was in a gay relationship. As to whether or not Lucius was aware of that fact before he spoke with Harry, the way it happened in my mind was that Voldemort was suspicious of Severus, wanted to get close to Harry to see if he could find out anything, so had Lucius get hair from Draco to make the PJ potion. In my mind, Lucius would have announced his visit (though not the purpose), so Draco would have time to prepare for his visit and been able to hide his relationship. Hope that makes things clearer =)

Thanks so much for the sweet and thorough comment!

What a freaking fantastic AR. Full of all of my favorite kinks! I think Draco was one of my favorite parts of this; he was so sassy and daring and yet he had such a decent core, the kind of guy who isn't really "good" or "nice" but whom you definitely want on your side, and can't help liking. Wonderful!
