Title: Disenchanted
Author: [info]cluegirl
Rating: NC17
Warnings: Chan -- 16, D/s, mild CBT, and orgasm denial, sorta-kinda-but-not-really bestiality, allusions to child abuse.
Prompt/Summary: bondage and d/s ^.^ Bottom!Harry, and child abuse/violence with abused!Harry.
Author's Note: Took me awhile to work out how to do a child abuse rescue and a happy sub in one story, and still keep it under novel length, but here's my best run at it. Hope it suits you.

When I read "orgasm denial" I think "I'm not having an orgasm, okay? I'm just really really happy! Gosh!"

I liked the story though.

Oh, it's been far too long since I've read one of your fics!! I've missed your lovely lovely language--your writing just settles so well in my ear and I can't forget it. It has such an old English fairytale feel and yet it's still modern and real feeling, like I could really see it the world! The cat scenes were cute and Snape's voice was--as always--perfect...but for some reason the scene with Bellatrix breathing out those rhymes--that's been haunting me for days and days now.

I loved reading this; thank you so much for writing.

Aww, now you've got me blushing.

I'm glad you liked that scene with Bella -- I was trying to aim for haunting with that, so I'm really pleased to hear it worked.

This was captivating. Severus following Hagrid's advice when taking care of Harry made me smile. All the interaction between Severus and Potter-the-cat was adorable. Not to mention the wank with the tickling whiskers...

What startled me (in a good way), was the casual killing of Pettigrew, Severus just thinking about cannibalism and, if I understood correctly, Harry being unaware of what happened. Another similar moment was Minerva telling about Bellatrix' fate. *shudders*
Also, Fawkes was cool.

What I was thinking about the Pettigrew issue -- and, in fact, all of Harry's actions as a cat -- is my conviction that cats cognate on about the same level as children anywhere from ten to sixteen, depending on the intelligence and personality of the cat. The difference is, they don't have the same abstract moral structure as we do, or the same socialization. So Harry, as a cat, is able to understand what's happening, but not that the rat he killed was anything other than proper prey, and now that he's dead, no longer worth thinking much about.

As a boy, Harry is certainly going to reach a place where the cat memories begin to trouble him ethically, but for now he's got enough other healing on his plate that he's content to let his cat-brain have the ruling on that matter.

And as for Minerva... well... let's just say she's a cat animagus for a reason.

Anyhow, I'm really glad you liked it! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

First: Sorry for taking forever to read this; save the best for last, right? =)
Second: Fantastic fic! Loved Snape & Harry's interactions with Harry, especially as a cat, but him being a boy had its advantages ;)
My heart nearly broke for him, knowing all what the Dursley's did to him, but Severus fixed it all, and I have a feeling Harry's life is about to get a lot better. And that scene there at the end, *guh* amazing.
Lovely entry!

Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! And yeah, Harry's life IS going to get a lot better now -- at least more stable, which is what he's been so deprived of before this.

Snape's possessive protection of his Slytherins is a clue to how he treats those whom he considers to be 'his', after all. And Harry finally ranks.

Thanks again!

I love cat!Harry and the way they came together. It worked for me, on so many levels. Harry popping from cat to human form, so their actions weren't necessarily accountable and then he finally kept his form, accepting his place as Severus'. I totally loved this possessive Snape, dour and completely fitting.

Lovely, lovely story.

Thank you! I think for Harry, the cat form just felt a lot less complicated, less confusing. As a cat, it was easier for him to hide, and to fight if he was cornered. The accountability wasn't really a factor for him -- remember, he's the boy who blames himself for everything, once he's done blaming Snape, that is, -- but the simplicity of the animal brain was probably the thing that let him react openly to Snape, and let Snape take him for what he was actually worth, instead of as the icon of his life's disappointments and grudges.

Anyhow, I'm so glad you liked it! Thanks for letting me know!

So many of the parts with cat!Harry had me laughing. . . Because I have cats and boy, did I recognize that behavior. You've either got to laugh or cry at some of the antics.

I loved how you dealt with Pettigrew, and then with the ring horcrux. Smart phoenix!

The sex worked wonderfully. Of course, I read the warnings and was ready to go. Yeah, this hit some nice kinks for me.

You (and Severus) did a good job of getting Harry from traumatized victim to happy sub. Hats off!

*Grin!* I was hoping that cat owners would appreciate the trials of cat roomates as depicted here.

Thanks so much for the props! It was a really tricky angle for me to play, and I'm still not 100% convinced I pulled it off, but I'm still glad that people seem to be happy with it.

Quick question: When Harry says that he is not a virgin, and the ensuing conversation, I was a little confused...was Harry raped? I absolutely adore this fic, but I'm such a baby when it comes to stuff like that that I can't save this fic if he was (and I really want to!!! =0( ) Hope you don't mind the question!

Let's put it this way: He's saying that HE doesn't consider himself a virgin. I hate to spell out details exactly when I purposefully left some wiggle room in there for the readers.

Disenchanted is enchanting!

I loved this one to bits. This was done with your usual exceptional style and delicious detail.

Best bits:
The alarm charm "squeaking and hooting and hopping up and down in its distress"

Pettigrew's ratty death and Bellatrix' highly appropriate fate. Well done Minerva!

Cat!Harry "speaking" English. Having once been owned by a cat who could quite clearly ask for his favorite "HAAAM!" I know just how expressive and appropriate feline vocalizations can be. These are adorable *heee*

Fawkes and the Horcrux. *snork*

Severus' hilariously fabulous snark is spot on throughout:

[Albus] "... I am told we have quite a complete potions supply pantry."

"Give or take the odd, migratory boomslang skin and gillyweed," Severus grumbled under his breath.

"...the surprisingly effective notion of using aguamenti minimus as a discipline tool"

"I see it's time for the sexual identity crisis."

"One crisis per day is your limit," Severus growled,

Perfect Snape-voice.

And the wonderful, possessive, supportive, beautiful D/s almost made me cry. This one goes straight into the "Save it to re-read" bin.

I'm woefully, ridiculously late in commenting, but I can now confirm that your story's dug its little cat claws into my mind and hasn't let go, ever since I read it!

The (dare I say it) cat-racterisation is perfect. If a reader knew absolutely nothing about you before starting this story, they'd still emerge with a clear conviction that you not only have cats of your own but that you care deeply about them and are a perceptive observer of how they move, act, behave: of their vocalisations and gestural/postural communications (tail lifting and thumping, tucked ears, whiskers, etc.)

And oh, the tiny moment where cat!Harry is shivering in Severus' arms and moaning "Nooou,", begging not to be sent back to the Dursleys', well, that's the bit that gets me every time, soppy cat lover that I am.

I adored that you made the building of trust between them a slow process: because cats do tend to be more standoffish that way than most, and of course Harry's been too badly hurt in the past for instant, complete trust.

And the other vocalisations, especially "Wow!" were an absolute hoot! Certainly gave a whole new meaning to 'cat got the cream'!

Thank you so much for a story I've now repeatedly rolled around in like catnip.

that was wow! wow! wow! you painted Harry's insecurities so well with cat, and Severus's slow acceptance of Harry / Cat!Harry. I especially love it when Snape says, "Mine!Mine!Mind" to Harry. Delicious!

Oh God that was rapturously wonderful. I missed it when the fest first went up and it caught my eye on [info]ciraarana's cat!harry rec list (http://ciraarana.insanejournal.com/26080.html) -- and of course I was hooked from the very first and so had to stay up an hour too late to read it all and you are an evil woman and I love you so much for it.
