Well, I don't need persuading that Harry and Severus are good together :-) The whole question of an afterlife is riddled with difficulties, isn't it? And as for Lily being underwritten - what an interesting point. Unlike the other 'dead' characters - Sir Nicholas, for example, both Lily and James are remarkably flat in canon - so much so that they seem like what Harry might wish his parents were (when he has contact with their ghostly forms) rather than characters with any depth at all. They're written as if they were in a book where ghosts didn't exist, and we find out afterwards that they were just a figment of the protagonist's imagination, or need. Which would be fine if it wasn't a world where ghosts roamed freely round the school and were as accepted as toast and crumpets. Once again, thank you - and for responding and discussing! Philo
