Art: Bonded
Title: Bonded
Artist: [info]veridian_dair
Giftee: [info]rakina
Media/Medium: Photoshop CS3, graphic tablet
Rating: R
Pairing: Snape/Harry
Warnings: chan (Harry looks 17 to me, but whatever number works for you higher or lower is fine)
Disclaimer: All Harry Potter characters herein are the property of J.K. Rowling and Bloomsbury/Scholastic. No copyright infringement is intended.
Summary: "We have to consummate the bond to bring it to its fullest magical fruition,' Snape said at Harry's ear. "I promise I will make this as tolerable as possible for both of us."
Artist's Notes: I really struggled with this assignment - how do I portray forced bonding without resulting to just an image of a ceremony? (And what scenario brought them here? Ministry machinations? Pressure by Dumbledore? Or a desire to help Harry against Voldemort via a bond with a strong wizard? My personal favorite!) With a love of tension and transitional moments, I came up with this image. I have to imagine it all ended up okay for both sides (alright, far more than just "okay" because like Rakina, that's how I like the story to go too.) ;-)

Love love love this! Forced bonding is a favorite theme of mine, and you've done a terrific portrayal here, the wariness and reluctance on Harry's face, Snape's proprietary hand on Harry's shoulder, Harry's hand drawn into a fist, and the rings! Beautiful!

Mmmmm, I love how Snape's holding Harry from behind. *g* Also the looks on their faces, the sexy atmosphere, all the lovely details. And Harry's body looks delicious!

Lovely! The expression on Harry's face is wonderful. And the glasses sitting on the table with the wine are a great touch - love the swords above the bed, too. Mmm, is that Snape decor?

Excellent work-I think you convey well Harry's trepidation with his body language and expression. Yet he and Severus both look determined. I like Severus's possessive, firm grip on Harry's body. Both of them look gorgeous and I like the details of the wine and the swords on the wall. Lovely piece.

I think you did a terrific job in conveying the 'forced' part of the bonding while still giving us hope that something deeper could grow out of it for these two. I love the little details like their matching rings and the wine glasses. Nice work!

Oh I just love the trepidation in Harry's eyes, and his clenched fist. And Severus looks so coaxing and - er, hot. :) Excellent job!

I love it. I just love Harry's expression. You do expressions so well. And I really like the way Snape is holding him, both at the waist and on his shoulder. All of it speaks volumes. Well done, as usual.

You know, I think my favorite part is the matching rings. :)
The look on Harry's face is good, too. A mixture of apprehension and anticipation. And Severus looks very determined.
Lovely!

Beautiful. I love the matching rings, and for some reason, they remind me of Harry's eyes. I like the looks on their faces as well, the anticipation, the fear. The tension is very much there.

Oh, I think you captured the sequelae of the forced bonding really well. Harry's face says it all (and that clenched fist of his), and Snape even looks uncertain, almost as if he doesn't want it to be a miserable affair. Beautiful detail to the room! Lovely piece of art, Rakina's a lucky duckie!

Post 1 continued:

They look like they are reluctantly having fun. I very much approve of that. They are meant to be but they just don't realize it yet ;-P

I loved the small details added to the pic. The crossbar on the sword, the shading on the bed and the linen, the texture on the floor, you even made they belly buttons different shapes. being the daughter of an artist I guess i look for different things but to me it is the smallest parts that make up the whole
you did a wonderful job.
thanks for sharing

Beautiful! I think you convey the challenge elements nicely, especially the forced bonding - Harry's expression says so much. You walked a fine line between being unsure and being unwilling - and pulled it off very well!

Oh, my! that's so perfect I'm almost, for once, lost for words!
But I'll try...
Firstly, you say you struggled with the assignment, but believe me, it doesn't show. You've made it so it's quite obviously a forced bonding, for Harry's tense stance, the clenched hand, the symbolism of the crossed swords on the wall, all scream that's what's happening here.
I love Severus' stance, the proprietorial hands on Harry, and yet his expression is empathetic.
The glasses of red wine in the background lead me to suspect you might have read one of my efforts as this genre, as I tend to favour it as something Severus would do, a way to relax the young man a trifle.
I'd say Harry looks 17 here; but he could be a year or two either way, it's hard to be dogmatic about age in art. Unless you're LJ, of course *wink*
Thank you for this lovely Holiday gift; I'll treasure it, believe me. If I ever get a website this will be prominent, because it deserves lots of appreciation and viewing.
Hugs,
Rakina

I'm so delighted you liked your picture! This is the very first fest I've done (being quite new to Snarry) where I worked to a set of prompts and I was quite worried I wouldn't pull it off to the giftee's satisfaction. Hooray!

You are absolutely right; as soon as I was assigned your name I quickly went and read your fics and thought I could do a Snape that was similar to ones you'd written. Your stories greatly influenced how I handled this.

I'd be more than happy to email you a copy of the file as soon as I figure out how the email works for this.

I'd lovelovelove a copy of the file. One day, if I ever get around to it, I'd love a website for my stories, and if you didn't mind I'd like this to have a prominent position on it. With proper credit, of course, and any linking you'd like. It's all rather a pipe dream at the moment, though.
Hugs,
Rakina
ps... I also loved your Games art, 'His Dream Wizard'. So sad, and beautiful.

Thanks for the compliment for my art on the Snarry Games! I'm up next in the Snarry Daft Day exchange.

A lovely depiction of forced bonding.
They both look a bit sad, yet very determined. I like the way Severus watches Harry's reaction as he holds him so tenderly, maybe trying to ease up the tension. I'm sure it's going to be more than tolerable…
