Fic: Strong at the Broken Places
Title:Strong at the Broken Places
Author: [info]joanwilder
Giftee:[info]veridian_dair
Word Count:24,000+
Rating:NC-17
Pairing:Harry/Severus
Warnings:None
Genres:Hurt/Comfort, Angst, Romance
Disclaimer: All Harry Potter characters herein are the property of J.K. Rowling and Bloomsbury/Scholastic. No copyright infringement is intended.
Summary: After the war, both Snape and Harry have the chance to start over again…more than once. The choice is whether to go it alone or with each other.
Author's Notes:To my recipient: here's a helping of hurt/comfort, angst, Snape saving Harry again, plot, and a few other things you wanted that I'll not mention so you'll be surprised. Some events in this story were inspired by the film, 'An Affair to Remember,' with one dialogue line taken directly from it. My gratitude to my equally anonymous beta reader, who inspires, exhorts, and gently corrects.

Oh, so lovely! The details were fantastic---I could feel the sand in my toes---and the image of Snape in denim cut-offs will be burned in my mind for ever. The hurt/comfort is delicious but there were moments of humor too: this line, regarding the snake handler, had me laughing aloud:

"And he knows what he's doing, I hope? I wouldn't want to be bitten a second time, although the irony would probably kill me first."

*giggles* Love it.

Well done!

I enjoyed this so much! It hit the spot completely (am climbing walls about Tuesday, 'nuff said.) It was simply lovely, start to finish.

I'm looking forward to finally teaching you something useful

Heeeeeeeee. Also, mmm, HOT.

Completely gorgeous. H/C and romance is very much the name of the game and was lovely and warming on this cold, wet evening.

Can't really say much more but I really did enjoy the slow, story of this and I guessed the baby wasn't Harry's. That made me so happy!

I am exhausted from squeeling so hard! And now I am undone, frankly, because you clearly had the ability to READ MY BRAIN even more than just the prompts I provided.

I adored your Severus and wanted he and Harry's time in Greece to never end. (And that Harry helped "him" first...I loved that!) I was just on the edge of my seat wondering why Harry didn't show because I just knew he had planned to. I could feel all Severus' emotions when Minerva told him what had happened. And how can I NOT love Severus when he gets into full Slytherin mode, devises his plan and puts it in action to bring Harry out of his self pity.

My most favorite snort out loud line: "I mean that sometime between now and breakfast I'm going to fuck you. Do you need it any clearer than that?" Man, he's sexy when he's that direct. And the sex was HOT.

But of course my most favorite line was the last (hugs you to bits)...you do know whoever you are (because I haven't a good guess as to who my mystery writer is, but I'm going to go back to the sign-ups and start pondering)...you're my new bestest best friend, right?

Thank you ever so much! It was awesome! I'm going to reread it over and over again!

This was just beautiful, romantic without being sappy. Harry taking care of Severus, their decision to meet, and all the misunderstanding that kept them apart-you wrote that especially well. I love that they each are a little bit damaged, but just as it didn't matter to Harry, it didn't matter to Severus. A wonderfully woven tale. Great job.

sweet and satisfying, H/C at its best, both of them so broken and managing to repair one another. Lovely.

Wow. I mean, wow. I was embarrassingly choked up through most of this. I'm amazed at how you made me feel Severus' heartache and longing and devastation without making him all sappy and maudlin and out of character. Everything just fit. I completely believe in their relationship, and not because they're my OTP.

Right. /squeeing. Seriously well done.

Oh me oh my! That was wonderful! I'm embarrassed to say I was feeling a bit weepy at times during this fic. Definitely something I will want to reread again and again. I especially love the line:

"... a rare occasion when two crabs have such an affinity for each other that it's not so farfetched to believe they'd choose to share a shell." And then "Sod the hypothetical. Would you like to share a shell or not?"

Oh man! That just got me - imagining Harry and Snape as two little hermit crabs - funny and romantic all at once. This is a beautiful fic, thank you for a wonderful read! :D

This was wonderful! I really liked the detail, the import of each gesture and glance. I also liked how you took two powerful men and showed their vulnerability. The Harry that put up will sick Severus and was willing to explore their relationship, was so heartbreakingly absent in the second half of the story, until Severus was able to excavate him (hints of Delos, hmmm...?).

"You see, I was spurred on by a disappointment. A friend of mine missed a very important rendezvous." This was achingly beautiful! Severus laying it out there!

Well done, I can hardly wait to find out your identity!

It was beautiful and heart-warming. I loved your Severus, and the way his relationship with Harry progressed was really believable. I liked how in character you kept them and I'll have to admit that the hermit crabs had such a meaningful presence in the story. The way Severus proposed to Harry in the end was pure awesomeness.

Full of beautiful imagery. Or is it metaphors? Or parables? *g*

I love the hermit crabs and the idea of Harry as a bee charmer, and I'd loved to see the shooting stars at Delos and the Aurea Borealis. A wonderful romance and an utterly charming story.
