Thoughts on the Next Round
Before Lyv went on her trip to Europe I AM NOT JEALOUS! I'M NOT! we were sitting down, trying to figure out what to do with the next round of Snarry Holidays. We both plan to have the fest run again (and much better this year, we actually made a list of things we HAVE to do at the end of the fest in order to make this years so much better) but our biggest sticking point was when to hold it.

As everyone knows, December is a huge months for pretty much all fests of any size, shape and flavor to be posting. 3/4 of my personal flist was solely devoted to fests and I maybe, personally, ended up reading 4 fics that weren't from my fest. It was mildly disheartening, but I, like most others, experienced fic burnout.

Now, the question comes, well why are you sharing that with us? The reason for that is Lyv and I wish to move the posting to an earlier month. As the fest stands right now, we barely finished posting before Snarry Smut Swap started. That's just not on. Not on at all. I like our fest, Lyv loves our fest, and we both loved everyone who participated and enjoyed themselves, but as you can see, two Snarry fests back to back just won't fly.

So guys, here's what we need from you. We need a better month. I do believe when we last talked we said we were going to post from the middle of October to mid-November, but that would conflict with all you lovelies who like to do NaNo. That's what we need though. A new month to spread our fest over.

Any suggestions for a better month?

Why not just October from beginning to end? I mean I think mid-Oct to mid-Nov isn't that much different with regard to the 'hols' part of your name. It's after school/uni settles down for folks and before NaNo and other real life holiday commitments. If you still want a holiday focus it could be centered on Halloween (both the kids friendly and the All Hallows variety). Or of course it can just keep a very early Xmas/Winter Solstice feel.

Lyv and I have been talking about it a bit since she got back, and we're torn between doing it straight through October or straight through November. Either way you're going to be hearing from us again really soon.

Of course, a lot of people have been asking to combine Hols and Swap together and if I had the first clue how that would run, I'd be trying to figure it out.

IIRC, Snarry Holidays ran longer than a month, didn't it?
You may want to consider a modified lottery system, which seems to be the way some fests are going. Perhaps then the number of submissions wouldn't be as intimidating and you'd have less difficulty with running into/overlapping other fests and with burnout.
As for timing, how about mid-November to mid-December? You'd definitely manage to encompass a holiday feeling that way. :)

Yeah I think it might have. *G* Don't ask me to think! I'm the absentminded email reading mod! >>

LOL, it wasn't the number, it was the quality. Lyv and I had issues reading over fics that squicked us badly. It's really unuseful that our squicks align pretty much 100%. We might lower the cap regardless though, dunno, we're just starting to think about it now. And it's early still! ^^

We're thinking posting during November, though I think we did that last year too. We started mid-November last year and had a problem with it. So...Yeah..

I think if you were posted from mid/late Oct to mid/late Nov, with a deadline in mid Oct, most folks would hopefully by done before November and Nano anyhow, wouldn't they? Pinch-hitters might get hit, but not everyone does Nano anyhow.
Alternatively start at the end of Sept and finish with Halloween.
I like the idea of a Halloween/autumn fest, that starts with Mabon (Sept 21) and continues through. Halloween's the end of the pagan year, and a highly magical time, one we know was a festival in HP canon, and there's the autumn harvest plus the encroaching winter to play with, seasonally.

We've been talking about it and if we wanted to keep the holiday feeling we might just post right through November, but a lot of people have suggest combining fests. I want to look into that a bit because I've got NO idea how that would work, or even if the other fests mods would want to.

Would you ever consider asking them to combine your two fests? Just a thought.

Maybe late june/early august? Just a thought, as I have no problem with the October idea, since there might be more samhain stories XD

If we had started planning it before now that might work, though, as far as I know, Snarry Games runs their art fest through the summer at some point.

Hehe. A lot of people are liking October.

Aside from it already being past, it's a religious holiday one I don't think was ever brought up in the books. There's nothing stopping people from requesting/writing them though ^^

I've been compiling a multifandom list of fests by fandom and month it goes live. Here's the 'By Month' version so you can have a look at what else is on at various times - http://asylums.insanejournal.com/festival_finder/1579.html

If you're going to do the fest, why not have it sometime after Christmas? Is it possible to do it January/February? This way it could be done either for Severus' birthday or perhaps Valentine's Day. If not, you could always combine the two and get more potential writer's in on the fest. Just a thought :) ::MV::

Jan/Feb is when Snarry Swap goes down, so, unless we combine (which isn't an option until we get a hold of the other mods) we're trying to find our own months. &hearts

I, too, was wondering about combining the two fests. A Snarry Holidays Smut Swap at the end of the year, possibly running into the New Year, would be a good complement to the Snarry Summer Games. Two major Snarry Fests a year sounds good to me. :-)

GMTH won't be running Merry Smutmas any more, which means there's a good chance that some of the Snarry writers who usually enter that would be able to write for a winter Snarry Fest.

Just a thought. (Will you be responding to these comments? I'd love to hear what you think about this.)

It sort of almost felt that way last year ;). I'd love to hear how that would work though, combining the two. I've been trying to figure out how that would work in my head for the last few days actually.

I've heard that, yeah. I don't think there were many who wrote solely for Smutmas and didn't write for Snarry Swap or Snarry Hols though. A lot of people did more than one fest, but there will be more looking. You're right.
