1. What made you decide to join the 2007 Snarry Games?
I... am a glutton for punishment? No, really, I enjoyed being a spectator in the first games and an artist in the second; now I'm ready to inflict my fiction on the unsuspecting masses. I love a good challenge, and I am one of those people who needs some outside motivation to finish a story. Having to write on a deadline for a challenge that is widely-read is all the motivation I need!
2. Which Harry Potter character is your favourite to write? To read? (any POV)
Very stereotypically, my answer is Snape. Ever since I first stumbled into HP fandom in 2001 (omg so long ago in internet time), I found myself drawn to Snape. This I blame partly, but not entirely, on Alan Rickman. ;) I've always been drawn to more ambiguous characters -- there's something fascinating about someone whose motivations you never fully understand. I've spent a lot of time trying to understand our favourite Potions Master -- now I just can't wait until the last book to find out how right (or wrong!) I am.
3.What brought Snarry to your attention? Was it a specific event/fic/picture?
I think there were a lot of people I knew from my previous fandom (Star Wars) that navigated to writing HP, and to writing Snarry. Forbidden love-type pairings are some of my favourites to read, so a teacher/student relationship was right up my alley.
4. What is your stance on "Quidditch-toned thighs"?
I was a band nerd in school. I never really cared for athletes. ;)
5. Your own fanfiction (any fandom, any pairing): What do you think is your most underappreciated work? What do you think is your best work? Would you link them here for us?
All Part of the Surprise, which I wrote for last year's reversathon seems highly underappreciated to me. It's Snape/Lucius/Narcissa, and I was very proud of it. I also am of the opinion that it's very, very freakin' hot, but I am biased.
For my best works, I'll give two, mostly as one is something that's not up everyone's alley, and also because I am indecisive. First is What Was, and What Always Will Be, which is a ficlet I wrote as a character study for an AU (non-magical) RPG wherein I played Snape. The game was around before HBP came out, so Snape's background isn't the same as we now know it to be; also, of course, being AU, other changes were made and liberties taken. It was an emotional piece for me to write, and really helped me pin down a lot of Snape's past that I've carried with me into other places I've written him. Second is Be the Good Little Soldier, a Snape/Karkaroff piece. It's a pairing I never really explored before, and even in the deluge of Snape/Karkaroff fic that resulted from the GOF movie, I think I had a bit of a different -- though dark and creepy -- take on the pairing.
6. In your opinion, will Severus Snape turn out to be 'Dumbledore's Man' in Book 7, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows?
I think he will. I don't think JKR would have invested so much in having his character be so prominent in the books if he was going to turn out to be evil in the end of it all. I think there's a lesson to be learned in Snape's character about not taking everything at face value. Granted, a very sadistic part of me would like to see JKR have Snape turn out to be Voldemort's Man at the end, too.
7. What do you think of podcasting, the newest fad in fandom? Would you like to hear one of your own stories, or one of your favourites voiced via .mp3?
I think the idea of podcasts are neat, but I don't have the attention span to sit down and listen to one. I'm a very visual person, so no matter how hard I try to pay attention, I end up zoning out after the first ten minutes or so. Maybe fandom YouTube-ing would be more up my alley.
8. What pairing have you never written that you would love to try one day? (Any fandom)
I would like to try my hand at writing in House fandom. I've roleplayed a bit, but have never really come up with any stellar ideas for fics. I would probably write House/Cameron or Chase/Cameron.
9. What's your favourite kink to read?
Ooh, that's a toughie. I love dubious consent situations, if that counts as a kink. I really will try anything just about once, though.
10. How do you feel about participating in this year's Snarry Games?
Excited and a bit nervous! I'm looking forward to finishing my story and reading all the great things that my fellow participants will come up with.
Thank you, hikaru!
