CHAMPION INTERVIEW # 34 RaeWhit
Original poster: snarrymod
Your Name: joanwilder ~~ RaeWhit
Your Team: Wartime
1. What made you decide to join the 2007 Snarry Games?
I'm a sucker for a challenge, and the idea of working as a team attracted me.
2. Which Harry Potter character is your favourite to write? To read? (any POV)
Well, Snape is my favorite to write, mainly because he's the character that I sound like most in my head (of course, most of this inner monologue is stuff I'd like to say, but never do. He's my hero because he does). I'm particularly fond of writing from Snape's first person POV. For the same reason, he's my favorite character to read as well—there's this element of intrigue about him that I find fascinating—who will he turn out to be in the end? Will I be disappointed or will I say, "Aha! I knew it all along!"? And like Anne of Green Gables said (rough paraphrase),"I think I'd like a man who had great potential to be evil, but then chose not to be." I find that romantic in a Jane Eyre-ian kind of way.
3.What brought Snarry to your attention? Was it a specific event/fic/picture?
My daughter told me about Snarry and I just didn't see it (ewwww, was my first reaction). So she had me read Cybele's "If You Are Prepared." Weeks later, when I began to recover from the trauma and began to talk again, I decided I just had to write it. The pairing's made perfect sense to me since then.
4. What is your stance on "Quidditch-toned thighs"?
Erm, I'd not really thought about this before, so I'd have to say that any body part useful in fucking, and toned, to boot, would have to be a good thing. But as a medical person, I have to ask, are "Quidditch-toned thighs" any different than, say, "runs around the lake a lot thighs"? Does anyone even care? It's like grain-fed and organic chicken, it all tastes the same—I can just picture Snape saying, "I can tell by the hook of your thighs around my arse that they're Quidditch-toned."
5. Your own fanfiction (any fandom, any pairing): What do you think is your most underappreciated work? What do you think is your best work? Would you link them here for us?
This is odd, but for me, the 'underappreciated' fic would be Final Fugue, a HP genfic that I wrote for the Sycophant Hex Spring Faire. It probably feels 'unappreciated' to me because it was so hard for me to write—my first ever and never to be repeated flirtation with 2nd Person POV. My best work, hands down, IMO, is The Sensible Garden. For a variety of reasons: research that I enjoyed; original characters that were challenging; issues that were near and dear to my heart; and lastly, I wrote this fic at a very difficult time of my life—I credit the writing with helping me stay sane.
6. In your opinion, will Severus Snape turn out to be 'Dumbledore's Man' in Book 7, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows?
Well, I don't know that he'll be 'Dumbledore's Man'—I think he may turn out to be sitting on the proverbial fence a bit more than Snarry fans suspect. But I do believe that he'll choose good over evil in the end—we may not know his reasons for doing so, and they might not all be admirable ones—I'm not altogether convinced he'll survive. But it would be a hell of a waste of an object lesson if JKR reveals him as evil as appearances would have us think—I think she has more economy as a writer than to 'waste' Snape that way.
7. What do you think of podcasting, the newest fad in fandom? Would you like to hear one of your own stories, or one of your favourites voiced via .mp3?
Oh, I have some fics I'd love to hear on mp3, especially some of Lychee's humorous Snarrys, like "Pretty Little Drawings." Snape and Harry's inner voices would be such fun to hear. As for my own, that would feel strange—I've had my fics translated into Russian and Chinese, and even that messes with my mind—we really are a global community. I guess multimedia resources like podcasting make fandom even more accessible. But I still prefer the printed page, and if I really love a fic, then I waste a tree and actually print it out.
8. What pairing have you never written that you would love to try one day? (Any fandom)
I'd like to try my hand at Neville/Percy, and adult Luna appeals to me as well—I'd love to get inside her head in a story. I have part of a crossover Snape/House fic, in which the snark and sarcasm will probably have them both spontaneously combusting at the end. Like to try a QaF fic too, Brian/Mikey—that'll happen when there are 26 hours in a day.
9. What's your favourite kink to read?
I'd have to say forced magical bonding and light S/M.
10. How do you feel about participating in this year's Snarry Games?
Now that I'm over examining my brain for choosing to write a war-fic (headdesk and facepalms), I'm alternately psyched and terrified. It's such a challenge to write the prompt I chose and keep myself to a reasonable length. And I'm honored to be in such prestigious company, too.
Thank you, joanwilder!!
