Your Name (lj and/or Penname): Amanuensis, amanuensis1
Your Team: Wartime, baby! Woo!
1. What made you decide to join the 2007 Snarry Games?
It was more of a "How could I not?" Last year I joined because the idea of a competition intrigued me; this year because I didn't want to miss the cameraderie of it. The team spirit was amazing.
2. Which Harry Potter character is your favourite to write? To read? (any POV)
I couldn't love the fandom half so well if Harry weren't my favorite character. It's tricky, though, because stories that use a first-person point of view for Harry may not connect with me if that Harry isn't the one whose voice I hear in my own head. And to be fair, the rarer appearances of Lucius Malfoy in fanfiction are likely to get me to take a look at a story, if he's in it.
3.What brought Snarry to your attention? Was it a specific event/fic/picture?
I remember discovering the "Walking the Plank" website and its tiny fanart section. After my eyes finished bugging out, I realized the artists had a point.
4. What is your stance on "Quidditch-toned thighs"?
Well, they're tasty, aren't they? Except it sounds so cliche-lurid. I think Quidditch has to keep ya in good physical condition, so they're probably no myth. But you'd groan if I said "bicycle-toned thighs" too, wouldn't you, even though the evidence is all over Lance Anderson. If your text implies a "bau-chick-a-bau-bau" soundtrack beneath it, knock yerself out.
5. Your own fanfiction (any fandom, any pairing): What do you think is your most underappreciated work? What do you think is your best work? Would you link them here for us?
Underappreciated? Underappreciated? D00d, I've been writing these frivolous little fanfics about Harry Potter's sex life--cue the bau-chick-a-bau-bau right now--in a world where fifteen minutes of fame has become a joke; you don't even get fifteen seconds before people are off to the next thing. I think it's a freaking miracle that a single soul besides me cares about this stuff and has cared to look at what I've written, much less thought it enjoyable and written to tell me so. I tongue-kiss my lucky stars every day for the joy this fandom has given to me with its feedback. Underappreciated. Chee.
And I always think my best fic is the last one I wrote. 'Cos, you know, I have more experience than I did before I wrote the one before that. Even though I know it's never that simple.
6. In your opinion, will Severus Snape turn out to be 'Dumbledore's Man' in Book 7, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows?
*gives you "oh, please" eyes*
Snape's loyalties and the murder of Dumbledore were fixed from Chapter Two of Half-Blood Prince. The supposed climax of the book was one big, "right, we knew that was coming, AND??" to me. That the story broadcast the answer to the reader yet still continues to hide the answers from the protagonist is, to me, the worst lapse of the series. I really don't like most of Half-Blood Prince.
And if you can't tell my answer to the question from that paragraph, I can't even believe we read the same book. *grumps*
(On the other hand, it was the book that made me finally, finally believe in Snape/Harry. After all my years of, "Well, yes, 'Detention, Potter,' fics are hot as anything, but it's not like I think they have any basis for a real relationship," that book made Snarry into a real and breathing thing. So that's good! Except Snape'll probably die in the next book. Crap.)
7. What do you think of podcasting, the newest fad in fandom? Would you like to hear one of your own stories, or one of your favourites voiced via .mp3?
Podcasting is lovely. It's great to have all sorts of media for fandom. But there's so much of it out there, and I read much much faster than I listen! So I don't have time to listen to all the discussions and news that's out there on audio. Livejournal is time-consuming enough.
Regarding audio recording of my own stories: For my own listening preference, I tend to go after audiobooks of things I've never read, not of things I've read before. So I assume everyone else thinks that way, and if you were to ask me to record something of mine, I'd react with, "Huh? But everyone who wants to read my fics has already read 'em. Who the hell would want my old stuff all over again?" I'd feel as if by doing it, I'd be saying, "look at me, I'm hot stuff, you all want my fics in EVERY medium, don't you," and that would feel quite pretentious for me. Even though I love reading stories aloud, I do. My own included. It's just that, well, those are all old, most of them are Jossed by canon and I can't buy the idea that there are still scads of people who are just about to discover my fics, all fresh 'n' stuff. I suppose the only way around the dilemma would be to release a new fic and release it ONLY in audio form. Heh heh, there's an idea.
8. What pairing have you never written that you would love to try one day? (Any fandom)
I'm coming up completely blank! I'm so greedy. If I want to write it I do.
9. What's your favourite kink to read?
Non-con.
Spanking, in certain pairings. (Certain characters just wouldn't, y'know? Tickling and orgasm denial, in femmeslash. Somebody write some long hair fetish erotica for me someday? Plz?
10. How do you feel about participating in this year's Snarry Games?
Do you know that Trader Joe's is no longer carrying Ginger Gelato?? This is not a non-sequitur; it was my answer to "What motivates you?" in my interview for the last Snarry Games! So I'd better learn to make myself Ginger Ice Cream for these games, or watch out.
Thank you, amanuensis1!!
