1. Can I have 'angst' in my romance or 'romance' in my angst?
Of course you can! Write your story however you wish, just keep in mind that you will be judged on just how 'angsty' or 'romantic' it is, on a scale of 1 to 10. If the judges (readers) think that your 'romance' was too 'angsty', or vice versa, you may get some low numbers there.
2. Who posts the stories?
The mods agree that authors should post their own stories, for two reasons:
a. All reviews will go to the author's inbox;
b. They have the power over their own coding and formatting. Teammates with more experience in posting on lj should be able to help you if you have any questions, or you can contact us here.
However, if you do NOT wish to post your own story, we will happily do so for you, all you need do is email it to us.
Please post the story HERE while the Games are on, to facilitate the voting process. You can pimp it far and wide, but link it to the community, otherwise your numbers may drop, which affects your team.
3. What is involved with posting the stories?
Firstly, all stories MUST have the following as their subject line:
TEAM "ANGST/ROMANCE" ENTRY: "insert prompt here"
The mods ask that you must include warnings and ratings along with your intro, but you have freedom to make it as long or short as you like, i.e. thanking betas, disclaimers, summaries. Using your Team-specific icons is also suggested. Tag usage TBA.
All stories, no matter the length, must be behind an lj-cut. All stories submitted are subject to moderator acceptance, and if any of these things are not done, we will reject it until it is compliant.
The most important thing, however, is the inclusion of the judging poll. When the time comes for the posting to begin, the mods will create the following poll for each team, for EACH story:
poll removed
We have not yet decided whether it will be a new poll for each prompt entry, or a cumulative one for each team. They will be given to the authors when they are ready to post.
The results of these polls will be visible to the MAINTAINER (djin7) only. When the games are over, I will tally up the results, and post them for the medal ceremony.
*Team members and moderators of the community CANNOT vote to avoid conflicts of interest. You can, however, pimp your teams' stories wherever you like, and support by reviewing. *
4. When are the deadlines and what are the prompts?
Deadlines are negotiable, we will be asking the Team Captains for their team's preferences. We are estimating approximately 4 weeks for the writing process to end, as our word minimum is only 500, and posting of the themes are to begin in the first week of April, to coincide with the grand reopening of Walking The Plank.
The prompts will be posted here in 2 days, and they are up for grabs, first come, first serve. Any discussions about trading prompts or assigning leftover prompts are left up to the teams, and their Captains.
5. Who are the Team Captains, and what do they do?
Team Captains can volunteer for the job, or be nominated. The option to do so will be on the final posting of confirmed teams and spares. Once agreed, Team Captains can organise meetings, via email or IM, they can help to bolster the spirits of their teammates and drive them to excellence. A Team Captain may also nominate an assistant, to help with the co-ordination of their teams.
6. Why are there alternates/spares? What is their purpose?
Everyone knows that life happens. In the event that a member of your team is unable to finish or compete, a spare will take up the challenge to ensure their team's success. Spares can also be co-authors or betas, to help support their team. Alternate authors who do not get a chance to write will automatically be put into the RSVP invite list for the next games, if they so desire.
7. Are artists allowed to join?
We have plans for an Art Games in late summer for this very purpose. Unfortunately, no art will be judged for the current games, only stories. However, that doesn't stop any artist from illustrating anything they would like to from this competition, if they are so inclined or inspired.
8. Can we get extensions?
Extensions are negotiable, however, as story themes are to be posted against one another, we will have to put someone else's story on hold at the same time. Prompt posting order will be RANDOM.
9. I want to switch teams, is that possible?
It is possible, but only until the end of this week, by Friday. Any *switching* must be agreed upon by both teams, after the team list is finalized.
