INTERVIEW # 33
Original poster: snarrymod
Your Name (and lj name, if different): ThreeSidedOrchid, Lj name: synn
Your Team: Romance
1. What made you decide to agree to compete in these games?
I work best when I have a prompt and/or writing deadline. In the weeks prior to the competition I was frustrated because the prequel to 'Understanding' I have been working on just wasn't going anywhere. The lottery for remaining team places seemed a good chance to step back from it for a while and still get something written, rather than doing something less important, like laundry.
2. Why did you choose the Romance Team?
It seemed time to stop trying to fool myself -- Hi all, my name's synn, and I'm a romantic (even if I consider the thorns more romantic than the roses, the sentiment is the same). Mostly, I just write Romance better than Angst, at least when it comes to Snarry.
3. Have you always been interested in the Severus Snape/Harry Potter dynamic?
Yes. I enjoy other pairings, but Snarry is by far my favorite. I love that their relationship can be believably portrayed in such a variety of ways. That I find Snape the most intriguing character psychologically probably helps.
4. What is more challenging to you – working WITH strict canon or working AROUND strict canon?
I'm not sure of the difference, since I consider the act of writing fanfic by nature an act of working around strict canon. However, I would probably say working With strict canon is more challenging, because there is a lot less information to go on than if you're adding and working Around canon.
5. What motivates you?
A love of writing. I don't write non-stop, and I agonize over every word, but I love constructing a scene or story. It's a challenge for me, a goal, ideal, or what have you, to create something that people don't just read, but feel.
6. Do you have plans for (or are you already writing) original fiction?
I have some ideas, but have no written original fiction outside of creative writing classes. Someday, once I've written more fanfiction and (hopefully) don't take 4 hours to write a sentence, I will begin some of the original stories I have in mind.
7. What three things are necessary for you to enjoy a story you are reading?
1. Good writing. 2. Believable characters. 3. One and two mostly cover it, but if I'm going to love a story then it has to have a psychological bent -- that is, I prefer stories focused more on characters and their relationship(s) rather than a complex plot (though if it has both, great).
8. What are your Top 5 favorite fanfiction stories?
Oh dear, um... (not in order)
1. Dark Side of Light, by Maya (I know it's not Snarry, but it's so beautiful)
2. The Shoebox Project, by ladyjaida (see above)
3. Commonplace Magic, by Sinick and ac1d6urn
4. Something to Write On, by Cybele
5. So Lonely Without Me, by Calligraphy
9. Do you have a story (any fandom) you’ve done that you are most proud of? Would you link it here for us?
Not really... I've posted very little, and right now can't say I'm more proud of any one thing over the others. If you really want a link to something I suppose I'd have to pick "Understanding" which is, as opposed to my other works, not either currently in revision or awaiting a third part. It's found here: http://www.nostatement.com/understandin
10. Are you excited about the Games?
Of course!
Thank you, synn!
