Your Snarry Games Team: Team Angst
1. What made you decide on Team Angst?
I had two props I really wanted to use - a pink cowboy hat and some rusty old manacles. The manacles won.
2. Which HP character is your favourite to create in art?
Snape!
3. Has your experience in fandom changed the way you do art? How?
It's certainly given me a new outlet. I feel pretty new to fanart, but the Snarry Games experience is encouraging me to be more prolific, which is great. I've been making people play dress-up with me for a while now (the earliest evidence is a series of photographs entitled "The Incredible Hulk and the Gypsy" starring my 5 year old brother and my 8 year old self), but the idea of a community of fellow fan artists is pretty inspiring.
4. Do you prefer drawing your own scenarios, or drawing scenes from canon?
I prefer my own scenarios because there's more nudity than in canon. Fanfic is also a big source of inspiration.
5. What made you decide to draw fanart the first time? Which fandom was it?
My motivation for my first piece of fanart was impressing a boy, actually. I was shooting my mouth off about how there was no good porn and that I could totally make better stuff than what was out there. I declared right then that I would do a pornographic retelling of Oscar Wilde's play The Importance of Being Earnest. I didn't know about fanart then, but it certainly fits the description. I'd originally imagined I'd do a movie, but since it turns out that's a lot of work I've scaled it back to a live-action graphic novel. I've been working on it since Fall 2001, we completed "principal photography" in 2005, and I expect it will be at least another year before I'm ready to publish. My introduction to slash fiction occurred while working on Earnest. I was showing an early draft of a Jack/Algernon scene to some friends. One of them explained the term slash and pointed me at some Lord of the Rings stories. I was immediately hooked!
6. Who is your favourite fandom artist?
It's so hard to choose! Right now, I'd have to say tasha_neko and gnatkip.
7. Have you ever been inspired to draw fanart for a fanfiction work? Why?
Yes! Sometimes a scene will just jump out and beg to be photographed. Other times I just get so excited about a story that I feel compelled to react somehow. I keep a running list of ideas as I'm reading, but sadly haven't made much progress on the actual execution of said ideas. I started reading HP fic about about two years ago, but it wasn't until I read emmagrant01's Left My Heart that I got bit by the HP fanart bug. I've started knitting a rainbow scarf, but since I don't actually know how to knit it's taking me a while. I haven't actually finished the piece I envisioned then, but it's what inspired me to start making HP art.
8. What are your favourite mediums to work with?
People! I love costumes and body art, and photography has always been my favorite way to capture them. I love Photoshop because it allows me to chronicle "the things that have never happened, and couldn't possibly have happened" as well.
9. Do you have a piece of art (fandom or original) you've done that you are most proud of? Would you link it here for us?
I'm most proud of my work on The Importance of Being Earnest. It's not finished yet, but I do have a few teaser images posted on the site.
My favorite HP art so far is of Snape taking a bath.
10. Are you excited about the Snarry Games?
Yes!
Thank you, nakedbee!
